Anniversary

"Today's the day, right?" Jimin skips into Taehyung's classroom almost a second after the kids have all been dismissed for lunch, eager to get every piece of information on what Taehyung was planing to do for the proposal.

Taehyung nods with a massive grin on his face, "Kookie woke up extra early this morning so he could make me breakfast in bed which honestly just made me want to marry him even more, if that was even possible!"

"Definitely a keeper. So, spill the tea on what's going on tonight."

"So Kookie's mom is driving here she can take Asami with her to Busan for the weekend, which is so great of her because God knows we need this weekend to ourselves. Kookie's getting off work early seen as he only has a few appointments scheduled for today, so that means we have the entire evening to do stuff! We were planning on going to the noodle place, you know the one we always used to go for dates at? I was going to propose there because of all the amazing memories we've shared, but then I started thinking about how many people would be watching me propose and listening to my words and I really want the moment to be just between the two of us so I scrapped that idea. Then I moved onto plan B which was proposing in the place we shared our first kiss, but then I remembered that we kissed on the doorstep of my old house and proposing there would just be weird for the new owners..." Taehyung laughs.

"So, is there a plan C? Please tell me there is." Jimin looks at the other, fear subtly displayed in his eyes.

"Of course there's a plan C! So I was thinking of other iconic moments we shared, which brought me back to thinking about our first date and then I remembered the bench in the park that we looked at the stars from, nothing is more discreet and perfect than that. So, I'm going to take him there after we've stuffed ourselves with noodles and that's when I'll drop the bomb."

"I don't think you should really refer to proposing as 'dropping the bomb'. But, that does sound like a great place, I'll have all my body parts crossed for you! You better text me all about it once you're home though, I don't want any of this 'forgetting' crap." Jimin glares at Taehyung, remembering how long he had to wait for the details about the first date.

Taehyung promises his best friend to tell him all about it as soon as he gets home, even if he and Jungkook are about to have celebration sex. He was definitely nervous for the night ahead of him, but excitement seemed to be creeping in and taking over the nervousness as the clock kept ticking down.

Jungkook was thrilled to actually be able to pick Asami up from school for the first time in what seemed like forever, he had missed seeing her excited face as she ran out of the school doors. He even missed standing around with Jin as he waited for the dismissal bell to ring, that's always where they would have to best chats after all.

"So... proposing tonight?" Jin wiggles his eyebrows.

"Keep your voice down, what if someone hears you!"

"As if another parent is going to run up to Tae and tell him that you're going to propose, stop being an idiot. Tell me your plans!"

Jungkook rolls his eyes, "Long story short, we're getting dinner and then I was thinking about proposing afterwards... I'm not too sure where though, do you think the living room is unromantic?"

"Will you decorate it?"

"Well no, I don't have time, but our living room is kind of nice already..."

"Kook you are not going to propose in just your average living room, you need a big gesture! Like fireworks, a string quartet, maybe you could even three hundred and sixty-five roses and say there's one for each day you've loved him!" Jin gushes, his romantic brain always going just one step too far.

"Will all that even fit in my living room?" Jungkook teases, regretting his choice of words as soon as Jin frowns angrily back at him. "Ok, I'm sorry. That all sounds lovely but Tae's more one for small gestures, simple things that show how much I love him, you know? Oh, maybe we can watch the stars like we did on our first date, that would be such a great place to propose!"

"It's not as good as my suggestion, but you do you, I guess."

"How did Joon propose to you, again?"

Jin sighs in defeat, "He proposed to me in my parent's garden... there was no string quartet or fireworks, and he only had one rose."

"And you still said yes."

"Well of course, because I love him."

"My point exactly." Jungkook laughs, thankfully hearing the bell ring and finally seeing all the kids flood from the school which effectively kills the entire conversation.

Asami lights up as she sees her dad waiting for her just like he promised he would be, "Daddy, you came!"

"I pinky promised, after all, you know I'd never break one of those." Jungkook smiles brightly as he picks her up, allowing her to chat away about all the things she did in school that day. He intently listens, although he was subtly glancing at the door to see when Taehyung was coming out.

Taehyung appears a while later, way after Jin had gone home so Jungkook had been listening to Asami talk about learning her times tables for the past ten minutes. "Sorry I took so long, I had to bring some files to Yoongi before I was allowed to leave," Taehyung says, smiling sweetly at the two people he loved most in the world.

"It's fine, I've just been listening to pancake tell me how good she's getting with her three times table."

"Wow, is that so?" Taehyung gasps dramatically.

"Uh huh! I can almost do it all without counting, my teacher said I'm close to earning a certificate!" Asami says proudly.

"Well, we better start clearing a space on the fridge for it then!" Taehyung pinches her cheek which makes the little girl giggle before they both make their way to the car to head home.

They weren't home long before Jungkook's mom came to pick Asami up, luckily Jungkook had already packed her weekend bag the night before so she was all ready to go straight away. The little girl tears up slightly at the thought of not being with Taehyung and Jungkook for the entire weekend, but the promise of getting McDonald's as soon as they arrived in Busan was enough to get her to agree to leave, she spoke happily about getting a happy meal toy as she skipped all the way to the car.

"Okay, I'm going to quickly shower and get changed so we can go to the noodle place." Taehyung smiles as he gives his boyfriend a light kiss before jogging up the stairs to start getting ready.

Jungkook waits until he hears the shower running before he retrieves the ring, he had hidden it in a box of cereal that he knew Taehyung hated. Although, he had panicked a couple of weeks back when Taehyung went to throw the box out because 'nobody in the house is ever going to finish that box of disgustingness', he managed to convince him that he was going to eat the cereal and had a bowl of it for breakfast the next morning (even though it was hard to swallow, the cereal was indeed disgusting but for the sake of ring hiding he had to pretend he loved it). He slips the ring into his jacket pocket to make sure he didn't forget it before heading upstairs to get ready, thankfully he had already showered that morning after making breakfast so he didn't need to take up more time. He already had an outfit planned out, a white button-up shirt with a pair of skinny jeans that he knows Taehyung loves him in (if the fact he always says how good his ass and thighs look is anything to go by). He quickly throws his clothes on before heading back downstairs to watch TV and wait for the elder to be done.

Taehyung, on the other hand, was taking way longer than he probably needed to shower, going over and over what he was going to say in his mind. He was worried about how he was even going to approach the subject, his initial thoughts were staring the conversation off by saying 'hey, want to listen to a speech about how much I love you?' but he eventually decided that was too weird and to the point. He finally shuts the water off and steps out of the shower, wrapping a towel loosely around his waist before padding over to the bedroom. He had bought a new shirt for tonight, thinking that it was worth going all out for, you only get to propose to the love of your life once, right? After dressing up and sorting out his hair so he looks the best that he feels he possibly could, he quickly and quietly makes his way into Asami's room to grab the ring. He panics when he realises he had nowhere to hide it until he can slip it into his jacket, so he prays to all the God's in the universe that Jungkook stays in the living room until he's able to do so. Luck seemed to be on his side as he manages to slip the ring into his jacket pocket before Jungkook is able to see it, although it was a close call.

"What are you doing?" Jungkook asks as he walks out from the living room and sees Taehyung fiddling around with his jacket.

"I was just making sure my pockets were clear, you know how sometimes I have loose gum wrappers and spare change floating around in them." Taehyung laughs it off, pleased with his own acting skills.

Jungkook hums, "I really wish you'd do that more often, is always me who has to clear out your pockets."

"And that's something else that makes me love you as much as I do." Taehyung giggles as he kisses the younger, both of them melting together and getting lost in the kiss almost forgetting they haven't even been on their date yet.

Jungkook manages to pull himself away which makes the elder whine in protest. "We should leave before we get way too into this. Besides, I can hear the noodles calling our names."

"Wow, I can hear it too." Taehyung plays along with makes Jungkook chuckle at him.

They both grab their jackets and head out, trying not to look at each other too much in fear of getting into another heated make-out session. Thankfully driving was a big enough distraction for Jungkook as he could keep his eyes on the road ahead rather than Taehyung's beautiful- well everything. They rejoice once they're parked up outside the noodle place, both of them realising just how hungry they truly were as they smelt the delicious aromas radiating out of the shop.

The dinner went much like it did on their first date, both of them laughing and joking with even more comfort then they experience back then. Taehyung's cheeks had the exact same ache from smiling so much, as did Jungkook's. Both of them realise just how much they wanted to spend forever in each other's company, the amount of love they felt for each other was almost overwhelming but completely and utterly intoxicating at the same time.

Taehyung grows nervous as Jungkook pays the bill, the weight of what he's about to do after this finally dawning upon him. The younger was very much the same as he imagined what it would be like if Taehyung was to reject his proposal, paranoia filling every single inch of his body.

"Do you want to head to the park? I thought we could sit on the bench and watch the stars like we did on our first date," Taehyung smiles.

"I was actually going to suggest the same thing, you're like a mind reader." Jungkook laughs nervously, something that Taehyung picks up on but decides not to question it in case it was just his mind playing tricks on him.

They sit down on the bench and both gaze up into the sky, delighted to see it was clear so they were able to see the clusters of small bright lights shining down onto them. "I always think about our first date, I think I knew I loved you from the moment I saw the stars reflecting in your beautiful eyes, just like they're doing now." Jungkook smiles as Taehyung blushes slightly.

"Really?"

"Of course, why would I lie to you?" Jungkook laughs before looking back at the sky, Taehyung in awe of how beautiful he looked beneath the moonlight.

"Can I-"

"I wanted to-"

They both speak at the same time which causes both of them to burst out laughing, Taehyung motions for Jungkook to speak first once he decides that maybe he did need a little bit longer to collect his thoughts before saying what he needed to.

"Ok, well- er- I wanted to thank you... I know I've thanked you like possibly a hundred times since we got together but I can't help but feel like I need to show you how grateful I am to have you by my side. I've never told anyone this, but I was completely terrified when I moved away from my parent's, they always helped me so much with Asami and then all of a sudden I was completely by myself. I struggled a lot in the beginning, trying to get used to a new job in a completely new city and make sure I'm taking care of my daughter properly, It was exhausting. Of course Jin took care of Asami whilst I was working which I was thankful for, I don't think I could've afforded childcare or anything like that, but every evening when it was just me and her I was so tired from work and she needed all my attention, and sometimes I felt like it was all just way too much for me. I saw how Jin and Namjoon were with Hana and all I could do was dream of having a family unit like that, but after so many failed relationships I completely gave up hope of ever being like them. That thought was enough to make me cry myself to sleep sometimes, which is pathetic I know." Jungkook bitterly laughs.

"It's not at all pathetic, don't you dare think that." Taehyung ensures as he scoots as close as he possibly could to the younger and grabs his hands in his for comfort.

Jungkook smiles at the action before continuing, "Meeting you was quite possibly the best thing that could've ever happened to me, you're like an angel that was sent to remove all my misery. I feel like it's impossible to be sad when I see your beautiful smile, or hear that adorable giggle that I love so much, just your presence, in general, is enough to make everything seem five million times brighter. The way you've completely accepted both me and Asami into your life is amazing, and the fact you did it so naturally too as if you were supposed to be here all along. I could honestly never thank you enough, but I'm prepared to spend the rest of my time on this Earth showing you how absolutely amazing you are for completing my little family." Jungkook says as he reaches into his jacket pocket and slips off of the bench to kneel in front of the elder. "Kim Taehyung, will you marry me?"

"W- wha- what?" Taehyung stutters, completely and utterly taken aback by what just happened, his entire brain short-circuiting and forgetting how to do anything.

"Shit, I knew it was too soon, I should've never listened to Jin and Namjoon." Jungkook panics when he sees Taehyung's reaction, he goes to stand up and pretend the last ten minutes or so never ever happened.

Taehyung stops him from getting up which shocks the younger, "I- uh- I..."

"It's okay if you think it's way too soon for an engagement, I just got too ahead of myself I guess... just let me stand up and we can go back to star gazing, yeah?"

Taehyung shakes his head, trying to will his brain to at least form one coherent sentence. "I- uh," he tries again but to no avail, so instead he just reaches into his own pocket and pulls out the ring box he had safely stored in there and shows it to Jungkook in hopes he understands.

"You were going to propose as well?" Jungkook's jaw drops, completely thrown by the fact Taehyung was planning the exact same thing this entire time. Taehyung nods furiously, feeling some of his normal functions coming back to him when Jungkook smiles brightly.

"I can't believe we both planned to propose on the same night, this is insane." Jungkook laughs, although his knees were slightly hurting from being in the same position for too long. "Can I sit back on the bench? My legs are killing me."

Taehyung giggles and nods in approval, taking a deep breath before speaking. "We must really be soulmates," he simply states.

"Definitely. But now I feel bad, you must have had your own speech planned out and I've gone and taken that away from you." Jungkook pouts.

"It's my fault, I should've been quicker with the situation. The early bird catches the worm, you know?" Taehyung jokes.

"I'll pretend this never happened so you can do your speech, just act like you're proposing to me out of the blue, I'll even throw in a surprised gasp."

"You're such a dork." Taehyung says, feeling a little choked up now that the situation has finally sunk in, Jungkook had actually just proposed to him. "I didn't even answer your question!"

Jungkook smiles at his words as he takes the ring out of the box and slips it onto Taehyung's finger, happy to see that it was the perfect fit. "Well, the fact you were going to propose as well kind of tells me it's a yes. Do your speech now, I'm all ears." He says happily before placing a light kiss over the ring.

Taehyung smiles at the action as he tries to swallow the lump in his throat so he could actually speak, "If I start crying in the middle of this then it's your fault for getting me emotional beforehand."

"I take full blame, and will not judge you for a second if you cry, I might even cry."

"Okay, okay." Taehyung takes a few deep breathes to compose himself, trying to get the words to form together in his head. "All throughout my life I've been lonely, I was the outcast in school because I was nerdy and quiet so I didn't have any close friends, my parents were never nurturing and my older brother hated me for even being born so my home life wasn't great either. I just never felt secure, never felt any sense of belonging anywhere. That only grew when my parents threw me out, I didn't know what I was expecting from telling my homophobic parents that I was gay, but I guess I didn't really care at that point? Thankfully by then, I had Hobi and Chim to lean on, but I always felt like I was leaning on them too much and intruding on them so I worked hard to become independent, to put myself through school and pay rent on my own crappy studio apartment that very rarely had any hot water. I was so happy when I finally graduated and got a job as a teacher, and when the paychecks started rolling in and I was able to move into a small house I felt like I could finally be happy, but that was when the loneliness came back to me. I always pushed the feeling away, I thought that I should be happy and grateful for what I had achieved for myself, coming from absolutely nothing but I just couldn't be completely happy." Taehyung sniffles.

Jungkook strokes his hands in an unspoken communication to show him he was there and he was listening carefully to every word he was saying which made the elder feel comforted.

"I remember the morning I first saw you, the way you showed so much love towards Asami and she showed the exact same amount back was so pure and heartwarming, I think I fell in love with you on the spot but I tried to convince myself that you were married and I couldn't fall in love with my student's parent. But the more I found out about you the harder I fell, you're completely perfect in every single way and I always ask myself what I did to deserve you. You saved me from my loneliness by accepting me so lovingly into your family. I've never felt out of place when I'm with you, I feel like everything just comes so naturally and feels so comfortable when I'm in your presence, you make me feel like I don't have to try and pretend any more. You've finally given me the feeling of belonging that I've craved all my life, and for that, I couldn't be more thankful. So, Jeon Jungkook, will you marry me?"

Jungkook wipes his eyes quickly, trying to pretend that he wasn't crying his heart out from the beautiful speech he just heard. "Aren't you going to get down on one knee?" He sniffles as he laughs.

"Do you want me to?"

"Nah, you'll mess up your nice pants."

Taehyung smiles, feeling a few tears roll down his cheeks as he slips the ring carefully onto Jungkook's finger. He instantly cups the younger's face and kisses him deeply, showing how much love he was feeling at that moment in time, the other reciprocating it with just as much passion.

"I still can't believe we planned a proposal on the exact same day, in the exact same place." Taehyung giggles as he wipes his cheeks clean of tears.

"As you said, we must really be soulmates. I already knew we were but this has just completely confirmed it." Jungkook sniffs as he pulls Taehyung closer to him, the elder resting his head on his shoulder as they both turned their attention back to the glistening stars above.

"I really do love you." Taehyung whispers as he glances down at their entwined hands and newly added engagement rings.

"I really do love you too." Jungkook kisses the others head softly.

Nothing can beat the feeling of finally finding your soulmate and falling so deeply in love with them that it changes your whole world. For Jungkook and Taehyung, this was only the beginning.
