Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Jen's P.O.V.
“You’re never going to change your mind on not fighting are you?” I inquired, watching the mess of people in front of me.
I saw Chelsea shake her head, looking over her shoulder at me as she stepped forward. “Nope,” She said, almost casually before shifting, attacking the first Seeker that came within attacking range of her.
Of course not. I thought to her, her white wolf coming up next to mine. I gave her a look before I launched myself forwards, hearing Chelsea dive in behind me. I focused on tearing the Seekers apart as I avoided their weapons. It was easier said than done as my wolf seemed preoccupied with something else. Not now, God damn it! We need to survive!
Despite my livid response, she made no move to reply. I ignored her odd behaviour as well as I could as I clamped my jaw around the neck of a fast-approaching Seeker.

I had just torn the arm of a Seeker right out of its socket when I heard Chelsea desperately calling out to me. What’s wrong?! I demanded, alarm surging through my veins. It’s Logan, we have to find him! Right now! My best friend growled. I came up behind her as we began to fight our way across the room. I’ll call any available shifter to do the same. I told her, Chelsea already preoccupied with talking to the Alpha.
It took us a while to finally get to the other side of the area and by then a whole army of shifters was behind us. Jen, where are you? I heard Ethan ask. I let him see the area around me through my eyes. Sam's been hurt. He told me. Anything serious? I asked, alarmed. No, but I'm making sure she's taken care of. I'll be there soon. I knew he felt my panic as I spoke. Hurry!
Our group went through a door which opened up into a wide hallway. Chelsea sprinted away from our group towards a crowd of Seekers a few meters away, her movements frantic as I caught sight of the Alpha.
Come on, move! The Alpha needs us! I ordered the others, pursuing my Luna. My wolf howled savagely as she began to scream a word over and over again. No, not now. Not here! I begged. Mate. She yelped. He’s here. I couldn’t believe that this was happening right then, the worst possible moment my wolf could have chosen to find her other half.
My stomach sank as I realised what it meant if I had found my mate only now, dread seeping into my body. He was a Seeker. My wolf went into frenzy as she noticed his scent, a unique, masculine combination of the smell of the forest and something else entirely different from anything I had ever smelled in my life.
The smell was so enticing I found myself taking deeper breaths just to catch more of it as it practically called out to me. I had no choice but to push my feelings aside for now though as I approached the gathering of Seekers. I felt immense panic as I watched my Luna dive forward to protect our Alpha. No! I screamed, as I saw the knife slice through her chest.
The moment it did, the shifters and I pounced onto the Seekers, tearing into them as anger fuelled our attack; making us more vicious as our urge to protect our Luna drove us to the edge of our control. I came face to face with a bandaged Seeker, his brown eyes shining with contempt.
I bent my legs as I prepared to jump onto him when my wolf stopped me. That’s him! Don’t hurt him! She screamed, alarmed that I would even think of doing such a thing. Even though I had thought to restrain myself, he surely didn’t as he dove forwards, knife glinting in the light.
I turned and ran, hoping that he would follow me so I could isolate him from the other shifters and keep them from harming my mate. Luckily for me, he did, his combat boots thundering on the floor behind me as he began his pursuit. I ran through one of the door we’d passed earlier, my mate hot on my trail.
It looked like a storage room for practice weapons, long, wooden rods lining one of the walls as blunt knives and guns lined the other. He halted at the doorway as I shifted back, changing quickly into the clothes tied to my leg. I held my hands up in front of me as I got to my feet, trying to show him that I meant him no harm.
I sent the image of him out to the pack, notifying them of the identity of my mate to keep them from killing him in case they spotted us. My wolf hummed in appreciation as breathed in his scent, my eyes wandering over his body.
He was taller than me by about half a foot, his hazel hair making me itch to run my fingers through the light strands. Under the bandages, I could see a pair of bright, beautiful brown eyes, alert and watching me with weary caution as he tightened his grip on the knife in his hand. I could almost see the definition of the lean muscles of his torso underneath the dark clothes he wore, the sight making the muscles in my stomach clench.
We circled each other for a moment, watching for any signs of movement. My blue eyes met his. “Please don’t hurt me.” I spoke, my voice soft despite the threatening way he was currently watching me.
He narrowed his eyes at me, the look of hatred on his face making my heart wrench in my chest. “Don’t think that by just looking human, you can manipulate me into believing that you’re not one of them.” He snapped.
“I’m not trying to manipulate you. My name is Jennifer and I ju-just wanted to talk.” I tried, taking a small step closer to him.
“And what would we have to talk about?” He inquired with a tilt of the head, watching me with obvious distrust in his eyes.
“Did you know that werewolves have mates?”
“How fucking interesting, are you trying to beg me not to kill you for the sake of yours?” He demanded, looking disgusted. I couldn’t help the smile that came to my face as I stared at him, knowing that despite what his face looked like under all those bandages, he would be the most attractive person I'd ever seen. My heart began to swell with feelings for him, even though we’d only talked once and he was currently threatening to murder me.
“Well not really. You see, you’re mine.” He looked taken aback by my admission.
“What?”
“You’re my mate. You were made for me." I could see the disbelief in his expression followed by anger. "We were meant to be together.” I explained slowly, watching his shocked expression as he lowered his weapon.
“No! You’re just trying to trick me into believing you.” He growled, lunging forwards with his knife.
I avoided it. “Please don’t do this.” I begged. “It’s the truth.” Urging him to believe me.
He lunged again. “Shut up!”
I avoided his blade again. “Why would I bother to risk my life, if all I wanted was to kill you?!”
“That doesn’t matter to me.” He exclaimed, kicking at me.
I spun around him. My eyes began to well up with tears. “Don’t you feel it at all?” I asked silently, clasping my hands to my chest as I watched him with hope in my heart; hope that my mate felt what I did. His eyebrows pulled together with confusion.
“Stop that!”
My eyes widened. “Stop what?” I asked silently.
“Stop looking at me like you expect me not to hurt you, because believe me, I will.” He admitted; raising his blade. “It’s what I was trained to do.”
My gaze became challenging as I looked up defiantly at him. He feels it! He may not be a shifter, but I can tell that he does! My wolf snapped, getting agitated now at our mate's defiance towards the pull of our bond. “Fine, if you really feel nothing, kill me then.” I snapped. “After all, it’s what you were trained for.” I bit out with contempt; contempt towards the life he's lived, the one that required him to hunt my kind since the moment he was old enough to hold a weapon.
Despite my anger, I held my breath as I watched him stand before me, grasping my chest tightly as my wolf screamed for her mate not to harm us. I fell to my knees, the thought of him harming me making my knees buckle as I was crushed with hurt. He watched me with an unwavering gaze, his knife slicing through the air with ease as it came down.
I bent my head down, keeping my eyes on the ground, not keen on watching him if the situation went south. I breathed a sigh of relief as the weapon clattered to the ground in front of me, my mate kneeling to look at me. "I can't do it." He muttered, more to himself than me as his eyes trailed up to met mine. “What are you doing to me?” He asked softly, reaching out hesitantly to touch the side of my face. I shook my head.
“I won’t ever do anything to hurt you, I promise.”
He seemed uncertain as he watched me. “I-I believe you.” He admitted, watching me with awe.
I was enthralled by his gaze, staying unmoving as I watched him lean in closer. “What are you thinking?” The question just fell from my lips without me really thinking about it, my head falling to the side slightly as his had.
“I’m thinking I’ve never felt this way before.” He spoke softly, as if worried to say it.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at that. “Well, you only ever have one mate.”
“And that you’re gorgeous.” He muttered; studying my face. A blush attacked my cheeks. “I never thought I could feel anything other than hate for a werewolf.”
“I never thought I could feel anything but rage towards a Seeker, but here we are.” I spoke, grasping the side of his face. My thumb ran the length of his cheekbone under his bandage. “What’s your name?”
“Darryl.” He mumbled, studying my face. I opened my mouth to speak again but I ended up gasping as I felt anguish course through the pack bond. My mate looked alarmed, warming my heart as he grasped my waist. “Are you hurt?” He asked, checking me.
I shook my head as I got to my feet, my mate following me up. “Something’s wrong.” I explained, my gaze meeting his. I began to move towards the last place I’d seen Chelsea, my mate grasping my hand as we ran together, calming me to some extent as I rushed to find out the cause of my Alpha’s pain. I didn’t need the bond to know that it wasn’t anything good.
So, decided to post this up quickly cause the last chap was a little short ;) Hope you guys liked it...
