Vibrant red eyes stood out against the out like wild berries against the slimy lime membrane. Webbed feet the colour of tangerines clung to the leaf, long limbs folding and extending as it climbed. Its white throat pulsed with an almost chirpy croak as it studied me intently.

He sunk his teeth into the fruit, breaking through the blood red skin and into the white flesh. Sweet, fresh juice dropped onto his chin as he ripped a chunk off the core. The satisfaction of the crunch in his mouth made him smile, the white dissolving as sweet nectar took its place.

Gusts ripped my hair loose of its ponytail, sending curls dancing around my head like a lion's mane. Billows of dust crashed down on us, qiblis transforming the warm day cold. I pulled my jacket around me in a vain attempt to quell the goosebumps sprouting as chills breathed through my clothes. Squeezing my eyes shut, I stumbled down the street, yelping as the force buffeted and shoved me in all directions.
