The Beginning -- Part I

1946 -- the year after Captain America defeated the Red Skull and World War II has ended. June 7 -- a baby girl is born to a woman named Peggy Carter. She names her Ellis Colleen Rogers. Of course, the last name was after the baby girl's father, Steve Rogers. Colleen after the mother's best friend. And Ellis, because of the freedom her father gained for this country. The girl that looks so much like her father, breaking her mother's heart all over again.

How do I know all this? I'm that girl, my mother told me so. I guess, the best place to begin, well when I actually started to remember things. Remember how my mother was always so busy, she barely had enough time for me, but when she did, she would make up for all those times that she was gone. I used to stay in the care of Edwin Jarvis when he wasn't busy and when he started working for Agent Carter as well. He was nice, took good care of me. But when he was working with my mother, that was difficult. She let a neighbor or friend watch over me. When she came home she would sometimes hide me under blankets, or wait until the next day to get me from a friend. I don't remember this of course, just things she told me when I got older. When I was 4, that's when she stopped telling stories about me, for that was the age where I started being able to recall what I did and what happened.

"Mum, why do I have to stay with Angie?" I wonder. "At the diner?"

"I'm busy, darling, and I can't take you to work," my mother responds. She kisses me on the forehead (probably leaving a lipstick stain) and pats my head. "Good-bye, I will see you later!" She waves farewell at Angie and leaves the diner. I sit down in one of the booths and look at the small plush giraffe in my hands. A plush Mum gave me when I was a baby. I take it with me everywhere.

This routine happens everyday. I never go to school, Mum teaches me in her free time. Teaches me things like how to read and write for one (up until a certain point), how to tell if someone is lying, history of the world, how to speak French and German, math, science, and if I'm lucky, she'll teach me a little on how to crack codes. History and cracking codes are my favorite!

"Ellis, do you want some pie?" Angie asks me. She's really nice.

"Yes please," I reply, nodding. "With whipped cream."
