Why this design?

The movie 'Ponyo' talks about a fish princess living underwater. She meets a human boy and becomes friends with him. He gives her the name 'Ponyo'. The more she does, the more she becomes human, which is exactly what she wants. She has flaming red hair which I think showed her fierce nature and determination and that is why I chose the photo. It was perfect. The fish and water represents her home which once was, her position of seating and her legs shows her human side. At first, I thought of replacing her legs with a mermaid tail. But then I realised that I would be protraying what her father expects of her, not what she wants. Instead of making it an animation theme, I decided to go with more of a realistic one.
