He Crosses The Line
NEW CHAPTER! It's slightly longer than the other 2 so enjoy!
"Wait," I called out but it was too late. She opened the box and all I could do was stand there and watch as 3 darts shot out and buried themselves in her neck. She let out a muffled cry of pain before collapsing to the ground.
I felt like I was in a dream, a horrible nightmare. My heart was beating fast and my eyes were glued to the pizza box like it could turn back time.
It had happened so fast. I hadn't, I couldn't do anything.
A little chit of paper was what finally snapped me out of my shock. It fell out of the box and with fumbling hands I picked it up.
"Lights out b****"
I crumpled it and shoved it into my pocket. Natasha. Natasha was my first priority. I'd deal with the note later.
I carefully picked her up, struggling under her weight. I was slight compared to her and my hands were still shaking. I could barely think straight. How the hell had this even happened?
The car. She was hurt. I had to get her to the hospital.
My senses finally kicked in and I ran to the car. I propped her up against the door as I struggled to get my car keys out.
"Blaze what," her groggy voice sounded from my right. Her eyes opened a bit and I finally felt like I could breath again. She was alive. That's all that mattered.
"You're okay. I'm getting you to the hospital. Everything's going to be fine," I whispered, as I helped her into the backseat. As quickly as she regained consciousness, she lost it again. I quickly backed out of the parking lot, simultaneously dialing Jace.
"Please pick up, pick up," I repeated over and over. He finally picked up on the 3rd ring.
"Hey Blaze," he said. I didn't reply. For a second, I blanked.
"Blaze what's wrong. You're scaring me sweetheart," he said sounding panicked.
"I'm heading to the hospital Jace. Natasha is hurt. Meet me there with the rest of the gang," I said, my voice coming out clear and cold. It was the only way I could tackle my panic, by shutting off from my surroundings.
"Okay. I'll be there," he said and cut the call. With one hand on the wheel, I reached back to grab Natasha's phone.
There was one more call I had to make.
He picked up on the second ring.
"Hey Nat. Do you need me to pick you up or something," asked Xavier.
I swallowed lightly before speaking.
"It's Blaze. Natasha's hurt and I'm taking her to the hospital," I said. I could already picture those blue eyes filling with guilt and worry.
"What's wrong with her? Blaze what happened," he asked sounding slightly unhinged.
"Just meet me at the hospital Xavier. She'll be fine," I said before cutting the call. His panic would do me no good right now and I knew nothing I said would put him at ease.
After 5 minutes, which seemed to drag on forever, I finally reached the hospital.
"Come on Natasha," I said, slinging my arms around her, half dragging her into the hospital. Nurses flocked around me and took her off my arms, escorting her to the emergency room.
"You can wait over there miss," said a tall lady carrying a clipboard before heading of to the next patient. I plopped myself down on one of the chairs heavily before taking out the note crumpled in my pocket. It took me a minute to realize its implications.
Oh god. Those darts were meant for me. I was meant to be unconscious, not her. It was supposed to be me. Luca had actually gone that far to hurt me. Unconsciously I held my hand to my throat. This was all my fault. I'd pissed him off. My f****** fault.
"Miss?"
"Yes," I said, my voice sounding raw, as I looked up at a doctor.
"Are you the patient's sister?"
"No, I'm her friend," I answered. She seemed to relax slightly.
"You're friend was hit in the neck with 3 darts laced with cyanide. She's lucky she's alive. The darts could have killed her if her body mass was slightly lower," she said. My mind faintly registered her words.
Luca had tried to kill me. My words had actually pushed him that far. That psychotic son of a b****.
My eyes clouded with rage and my fists clenched on the piece of paper in my hands. He was a dead man for this. Nothing I'd done had justified the line he'd just crossed. He would pay for what he'd done to Natasha. For what he'd tried to do to me. The doctor's words rang in my ears over and over. The darts could have killed her. I was barely thinking straight when I looked back up at the doctor. Her eyes widened at the anger she probably saw there.
"Miss, do you need," I cut her off.
"I need some air. The girl's name is Natasha and her brother will be here any minute," I said before leaving the hospital. My mind had descended into cool rage, on autopilot, as I headed to my car.
I'd finally pulled up at Luca's house. He was hosting a party, so mundane, almost like he hadn't just tried to murder someone. Red cups littered his backyard and loud music boomed from the inside. The perfect distraction that I needed to get proof for what he'd done.
I quickly made my way into the house, slipping past everyone unnoticed. I though I'd stand out with my jeans and a hoodie but apparently everyone here was too drunk to notice anything.
Typical.
I ran up the stairs and headed for the door at the end of the hall which had KEEP OUT written across it. If I was going to find evidence for he'd done, his room would be my best chance.
I snuck in and closed the door softly behind me. The room was empty, save for a small bed at the center and a plain white desk. There was a window on the left side of the room that I could jump out of in case anyone showed up suddenly. I made my way to the desk, which was littered with papers. As I neared the table I realized they weren't papers, but pictures.
Pictures of me.
My eyes widened and I stumbled back in shock.
Straight into a pair of muscled arms.
I whipped around, my eyes meeting a pair of icy blue ones.
"Well if it isn't my favorite b****"
Jace's POV
We'd all been sitting in the waiting room for well over an hour before the nurse finally said we could see Natasha. I'd driven like a madman to get here quick. Blaze hadn't freaked me out like that since her parents got divorced. After we'd seen Natasha a timid nurse finally approached me, hopefully to tell me where the hell Blaze was. She wasn't picking up any calls. The girl had a tendency to be rash when she was upset and I prayed to god she hadn't done something stupid. Knowing her though, she probably had. She had a tendency to blame herself for everything bad that happened around her.
"Are you Natasha's brother," the nurse asked. Before I could open my mouth, a low voice cut me off.
"I am."
I looked up to find a boy around our age with dark blue eyes and jet-black hair. His eyes were calm but his fists were lightly clenched at his sides as he surveyed the woman in front of him. She leaned back, slightly intimidated.
"Could you fill out these details for me, sir," she asked, her voice quivering just the slightest.
"After I see me sister," he said, his voice tight, and then glanced to me.
"You know where she is," he asked. It was more of a statement.
"Follow me," I said and together, all of us went to see her. The tension that surrounded Natasha's brother could be cut with a knife.
"Xavier," Natasha called out as soon as we entered her room. So that was his name. Almost instantly that tension fizzled out as he went over to give her a hug. The rest of us turned to leave but she stopped us.
"Wait, where's Blaze," she asked. Xavier glanced up then and scanned over all of us once and just like that, he was on edge again.
She was my best friend and yet this guy looked 10 times more worried than me, although he hid it pretty well.
"She was gone when we got here," replied Amelia from my right and Natasha's eyes widened in alarm.
"Oh god she went after him," Natasha whispered and I stiffened instantly.
"Who," I asked, my voice more sharper than I'd meant it to be.
"Luca," she said and my heart dropped to my stomach. I knew her words were true. It was something Blaze would do. I looked up, shocked, when the last person I expected broke the tense silence that had filled the room.
"If he lays a finger on her, I'll kill him. He's done enough damage already." Xavier spat out with rage as he glanced at his sister before taking her hand in his. He hadn't just issued a threat, no, he'd delivered a promise.
That's the end of the 3rd chapter. Things are starting to get more interesting (:
