Here comes Katrina

It would take a lot of work to get the carpet to wash on the same night, which is why Yuta found himself early in the morning in his silver Audi looking for an open laundry that did not cost too much. However, with the damage of spoiled pizza, potato chips and probably soju, he couldn't get to complain. He even had woken up in a good mood, even though Johnny had caused him a bitter headache the other day, but deemed necessary. Now he knew he could move on without feeling any regret for not confessing, for yielding. Those thoughts no longer came to mind, which was a relief for him. His only problem now would be to finish his paperwork in the college office while the rug was being washed. Believe, if the rug could speak, it would be crying with happiness.

The secretary was a little rude for what Johnny had said a few days ago, yet her eyes seemed to shine each time Yuta stared at her. It was funny to him; he even had an increase in his mood "It seems that Osaka Prince is not dead" — he boasted.

"I'm sorry for taking so much time with your registration, a newcomer ended up blending your roles with another foreign student" with short laughs, she skillfully used the computer in front of her "Wait a moment, your schedules are printing" she pulled away.

"Alright, thank you" Yuta leaned against the counter.

"Oh, so you're the cause of this mess?" a feminine voice inquires and someone touched his shoulder.

"Me?" throwing a curious look back, Yuta caught sight of the girl he had seen last night now staring at him.

"Oh!" she laughed pointing at the boy in front of her "You again!"

"I should've been the one saying that!" they both laughed with eyes connected "So, you must be the transferred student, huh? You're the real culprit here" he teased.

"How absurd" they sat silently staring at each other for a few seconds. "Canada" she smiled openly trying to create a subject. "What about you?"

"You sure are far from home..." Yuta was surprised "I'm from Japan."

"A Japanese. Well, what I expected, we're in Korea anyway" she shrugged.

"You don't like Asians?"

"I think I'm just not used to it. I have nothing against you tho, you are somewhat cute. Just a little bit" she laughed noting Yuta's stunned expression "I think I'll survive."

"Just a little bit?" Yuta arched an eyebrow "You think I'm just a little bit cute?"

She laughed at his indignation.

"Excuse me" the secretary was direct "Your papers" when her eyes met Yuta's, she smiled again "Please don't chat in front of the counter."

"Thanks, and, I'm sorry...?" he looked at the girl behind him, holding his laughter "I think we should go."

Both ended up walking together where Yuta had parked his car, but in the way, they came across a vending machine still inside the campus. An iced tea for him and a coke for her. She was a nice girl, that he wouldn't deny, nor that her eyes were as beautiful as a sapphire.

"So, if you let me ask, what is Miss Canada doing so far from home?" he leaned back in his own car, opening the iced tea bottle.

"Long story... But for short, we ended up running out of money to pay the rent. Debts and stuff. My parents had a house here because my mom was korean, so..."

"Here you are."

"Exactly."

"It makes sense" that made her smile "It must be hard to leave everything you know behind by not having a choice... I'm sorry. But your Korean is very good if it makes you feel any better."

"It's okay, I'll get used to it" she looked at the hours on her phone "Shit...!"

"What's wrong?" he was startled.

"I lost track of time, I have to go!" putting her cell phone back in her pocket, she turned around ready to leave "It was nice to know you! Hope to see you more often!" she smiled waving and started to run.

"Wait! My name is Yuta, Nakamoto Yuta!" finally he remembered to ask "What's yours...?!"

"Katrina! My name is Katrina Brown!" and with a contagious laugh, she left.

With a livelier smile on his face, Yuta started the car and as soon as he left, he placed the iced tea bottle in the car coaster. He still had plenty of time to get the now washed carpet. Taking a drive wouldn't hurt, even if he spends almost an hour inside the car still wouldn't get bored. He even stopped by a fast-food restaurant to pigs out on burgers.

Yuta had forgotten how it was good to have some time for himself, away from tiresome thoughts and problems, just a day to relax. That day was today. However, it was time to go back to the routine, since he had forgotten to close the windows of his apartment and a storm was brewing in the sky, beyond the fact that it was already five in the afternoon. As he drove for a couple of minutes and turned the corner, Yuta saw Katrina running alongside Charlotte, both holding hands in the rain.

"Hey!" he lowered the window trying to get the girls' attention "Katrina, over here!" she finally looked at him "Do you want a ride?" he didn't have to insist for the girl not think twice.

Now the female presence in the car made Yuta feel a little more uncomfortable, especially with little Charlotte in the back.

"You don't know how grateful I am."

"Why, are you made of sugar?" he laughed as he felt Katrina's light punch hit his shoulder.

He smiled in pain, which made Charlotte to laugh too.

"A little rain like that doesn't shake me" she said.

As an irony of life, the rain has thickened drastically.

"This little rain?" pure sarcasm "No way. We are doomed, if we were animals, Noah would save us. Without a boat you could drown out there" the drops were roughly hitting the windshield of the car "Gosh, is a deluge."

"Charlie, all good?" with a yellow handkerchief, Katrina wiped the little girl's face in the backseat.

"I'm ok, you don't have to rub it in my face..." the little laughed dodging Katrina's hands.

"Are you cold?"

At the moment Katrina asked, Yuta switched on the car's heater, which made her smile.

"Well, thank you very much for your concern."

"We can't let a child get cold, what kind of gentleman would I be?"

"Oh, so now you're a gentleman?"

"Long story, if I tell you now, it'll get lame. You'd say I'm a narcissist."

"But you are narcissistic" she laughed bending her knees on the seat.

"What an absurd thing" he was indignant.

"Absurdly true."

"What have I done to you to think of myself like that?" he finally laughed while they got out of that thunderous rain as he drove inside a tunnel.

"Come on, you were loving to see that secretary drooling over you" she punched his shoulder again.

"Don't hit the driver or we'll all going to die."

"Speaking of which, where are you taking us?" she stared curiously at the streets outside the window.

"To an empty road, far from the city eyes" a silence was taken in the car "It will be easier to hide your body and kidnap the child."

"And what are you going to do with my poor Charlie?" she dramatized a scene of desperation after hijacking.

"My dream has always been to be a single father, didn't you know?"

"Shut up..." she laughed looking at Yuta's smiling face.

Even if she denied it, Katrina thought he was very handsome.

"You're crazy."

"Was that a compliment?"

"Take it as you wish..." she rolled her eyes still smiling.

"Now the truth. I'm taking us to get a rug that until yesterday was rotten, if that's not a problem."

"It's ok, but you owe us. Right Charlie?"

"A dinner!" the little girl exclaimed.

"What are you talking about, girl?" Katrina turned indignant aiming to the backseat "Who taught you these things?!"

"You" Charlotte laughed so lively that it made Yuta feel very lucky to witness this in his life at least once.

"What a barefaced lie."

"But why not?" Yuta parked the car in front of the laundry with a surprised Katrina at his side "Thank God here is just drizzling" staring at the sky, he opened the door "I'll be right back" and he ran into the compound.

After storing the rug in the trunk, the three found themselves again on the road. They were talking less, but nothing that made them feel uncomfortable, just enjoyed the presence of one another listening to The 1975 on the car radio.

"I didn't imagine you liked that kind of music" she said staring at him.

"Good music?" they both laughed.

"I'm getting more and more impressed with you, noble knight."

"Well, thank you very much, beautiful lady."

Bit by bit, they started singing and having fun in the car. It was hearty, something Yuta had never felt with his family before and it warmed his heart, such as he wanted that drive to never cease; but like all that is good, it came to an end. Yuta was facing a beautiful house, not so big nor too close to his apartment, saying goodbye to those two girls whom he would love to know more about. For the first time he wished this wasn't his last meeting with a girl he'd met for less than twenty-four hours.

"Well, now you have my number. If you need anything, call me."

Yuta was kind and this made Katrina feel very welcome.

"Do not expect too much" she teased.

"Either you call, or I'll. You decide" with a wink, Yuta turned his attention to Charlotte "You're going to miss your handsome friend, aren't you?"

"Sure!" she clapped her hands excitedly.

"See, don't deprive the child of being happy!"

Katrina covered Yuta's face with her right hand rubbing it down forcing him to lower his head.

"If you do that again, I'll lick your hand" he said taking a few seconds to straighten his hair.

"Look at this, unbelievable" she seemed to be disgusted just by the thought of what he had said "So that's it, thank you so much for the ride" with a deliberate disinterested glance, she stared into the boy's dark eyes "Come on Charlie, thank him too."

"Thank you very much!" she smiled widely "Let's meet again to play!"

"Of course, little star!" Yuta beamed excitedly at the little girl "So is it a see you soon?" he turned his gaze to Katrina.

"Who knows?"

"Be honest, you loved spending the afternoon with me."

"Bullshit" she laughed "I hated," a big smile "see ya!" she took Charlotte's fragile hands and with a brief wave entered the house.

Yuta wasn't completely into her. He would say he was starting to liking Katrina as a friend, yet something in her aroused an interest he hadn't been feeling for a long time. He took a few minutes to think about it as he returned to his apartment with the rug in his hands. It would be a pleasant evening, but Katrina remained in his thoughts and if anyone asked, Yuta would deeply deny that he was lost in her sapphire eyes.
