Chapter 4 - A Threat
Cassandra
After we finished with the Mathinators meeting, I waved goodbye to Bella and headed off to my last couple of periods, Geo, Health and P.E.
Because I was sweating buckets in gym, I looked (and smelled) like a cat who fell into sewage water and was stuck in it for 3 days straight, so afterwards, I went to the bathroom to freshen up.
As I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror, I examined my reflection. I guess I didn't look that bad. My hair was actually really pretty when it was styled properly, my ghostly pale skin a good contrast with my thick black glasses and as for my figure, I practically looked like a supermodel!
Feeling upbeat, I whipped out my phone to take a cute mirror selfie when I heard loud, angry footsteps heading towards the bathroom door and the muffled sounds of feminine voices getting louder as they approached closer.
Curious, I put my phone down on the bathroom counter and edged closer to the door to try and listen in on whatever conversation they were having.
As I got to the door, I leaned my head on it to see if I could hear even the slightest of words when it flew open and hit me smack dab in the face so hard, I saw white dots everywhere.
I heard a girls voice say "Believe me when I say, when I find that little prick I'm gonna..."
I interrupted her with a groan.
"Ow," I mumbled under my breath.
She violently turned around and I realized I was eavesdropping on the most popular girl in school, Victoria Deloris and her best friends, Allison and Scarlette.
I could practically see the fire in her eyes when she first turned around, but when she saw me, they went cold.
"Well look who it is, lil ol' Cassandra Kivetsky," she spat bitterly.
Even though I was scared, I knew how to handle myself in these kinds of situations and I stood tall but quiet.
"Guess she's too chicken to respond," Allison taunted.
"Yeah," Scarlette smirked.
I stayed silent.
"Well you know guys, The 411 is that Cass over here was flirting with Andrew earlier today," she said to me as she folded her arms.
Then she snarled. "My boyfriend."
I couldn't take the lies any longer.
"I wasn't flirting with him, he was just helping me up and I didn't know he-"
She cut me off.
"Listen to me, I don't know what you thought you were doing when you even glanced his way but know this: if you even think about trying to hit on my boyfriend ever again, I will destroy you in every way imaginable and in the end you will be so broken you won't even think of showing your face back at school the next day"
At this point, I lost it and I felt a surge of energy course through me... I don't know if it was hatred or anger or maybe even confidence but it took over me and my senses because I stepped closer and told her in my calmest voice possible:
"Oh yeah, is that a threat?"
In response, she got all up in my face and hissed, "no, it's a promise."
Then, with an evil smirk on her face, she backed up and in her sweetest voice possible she said "toddles honey," slow waved at me and strolled out the door
Her friends were quick to scutter after her, but before they left, Allison stepped on my foot with her 5-inch heels. Hard. That caused me to tumble to the floor and swiftly after, Scarlette spat on me and kicked me in the ribs.
I suppressed the urge to scream out in pain.
Finally, they left and I was alone in the bathroom.
Once I was sure they were gone, I started to cry. Torturous sobs that hurt when you let them out.
After I calmed down, I slowly stood up and re-looked myself in the mirror.
"What was I thinking before," I thought to myself.
"Me? A supermodel? Biggest lie of the century. I couldn't compare to Victoria. With her perfectly tanned skin, electric green eyes, black as night hair with effortless curls and long legs, I was nothing. Like comparing a princess to a frog. And me and Andrew? Never in a million years. I should just forget that I ever even liked him in the first place."
I turned on the tap and washed my face.
The cool water calmed most of my nerves.
Then I decided to leave the bathroom for 2 reasons.
Number 1: I had had enough of it.
And Number 2: I was late to pick my sister up from her elementary school.
