Elias Cadmon Boken
This kid, I love this kid. -leavesfromthevine
Role: Mind Your Own Darn Business.
Full Name: Elias Cadmon Boken. He goes by Eli though.
Age: 28
Gender: male
Sexuality: straight. Mostly. He's just kinda in the middle of figuring things out— he hasn't met a good enough human to be romantic with seriously yet, so when he does find one, he figures he will just take what he can get.
FaceClaim: Don't know who this guy is, but found him on Pinterest.
Generally what he looks like ^
With his hair cut and better lighting ^
Scars/Piercings/Blemishes/Other Markings: He has glasses, and a birth mark on the back of his neck. His mother calls it a "stork's bite."
Personality: Eli is someone who just doesn't give a button about what you think, what you care about, you generally, or anything other than his books. He cares for his books. He cares for his mom.
He just wants to be left alone, but fate seems to have other ideas. Why can't the world leave him alone?? He just wants to friggen read. What does he read about?
The apocalypse.
No joke, that is his subject of preference. Action packed adventure, daring escapes, a zombie here and there, and maybe a really good ship too. He's read several books on "what might happen if the gods came down from heaven and destroyed us" and even "what might happen if the world's gate was left to a bunch of kids." Those are his favorites. He keeps at least one book with him at all times rain or shine. His sister gave him a really spiffy looking satchel one year for his birthday, so now that's what he keeps his books in when he's out and about.
If he isn't in the mood for company, you'll know. He won't look at you, he will ignore you as if you aren't even there, and a scowl is plastered firmly on his face. If you provoke him enough to speak, he might actually growl at you. Something he says often is, "I'm not in the mood for people. Like you."
All he really wants to do is read his books. He can be pleasant enough, even buy you a pastry, if you just leave him alone. If he wants attention he will come and sit down next to you, and read his book. That is company enough for him.
He doesn't talk much, but when he does it is usually either telling people to go away, ordering food, or going on about one of his books that he enjoys. This kid can be the biggest fanboy. He will squeal and clap his hands if his ship sails in the story he is currently reading. He will blabber on and on about the plot, if you let him.
However, more often than not, he just simply won't acknowledge you. If you're able to leave him alone, he will probably like you a bit better. But, no one seems to do that. There's always one thing after another.
Elias is a very...indifferent person. As long as it doesn't concern his books, he doesn't care where you go eat, shop, or sleep. He just doesn't care. It's not important to him, so he doesn't think about it.
Speaking of thinking, he does do a lot of that. He considers himself smarter than the rest of the populace, with all his book learning and all. He isn't snobbish, but he might seem rude. He has a cold shoulder, true, but often times he just doesn't know how to people. He doesn't like them, so he never took the time to learn how to interact with them. Oops-
Likes: Reading. Libraries. Reading nooks. Window seats. The quiet. Being left alone. Heckin comfy chairs. Coffee cake.
Basically, he likes knowing things and good plotlines. He will read a heckin textbook of his own volition if he's wanting to learn something new. Knowledge, however, isn't just for the sake of knowing, no no Eli is not a philosopher. He strives to be smarter than every body else, so he will do the gains in his brains kinda thing.
Libraries are the most pleasant of places, they hold everything he could ever want: peace an quiet from all the annoying people, so many good books, mood lighting, and comfy chairs to read on. If he could, he would spend every waking moment in his favorite library, reading is favorite books over and over. Heaven, in Eli's eyes, is a library.
Oh and when those libraries have those cute little cushions by the windows and blankets and little lamps! He loves those. Special comfy places where people aren't allowed to bother him.
Coffee cake is that special touch to his little heaven. If Eli has a comfy cushion, a good book, a smol lämp, and nobody else there plus coffee cake?? Heck yes bois. Now you're speaking his language.
Dislikes: The market. Shopping. Coffee. Other people. Loud noises. Annoying kids. Dogs. Birds. Talkative people.
Eli hates shopping. It's to noisy, (most times to crowded), and it's outside. You can't read while trying to buy chicken soup. Coffee is to bitter, and it's just gross. Coffee cake is another thing, yes it uses coffee, but it's like when you cook with alcohol. It just kinda boils out (I think-).
People tend to interrupt him and his book. That is an instant dislike from Eli. Then again, talking in real life is a lot harder than in books, so people and (gods forbid) interaction is just something he tries to avoid. Eli would be happy as a hermit as long as he had a cat friend, and books.
Then generally, just anything really loud is distasteful to him. He doesn't like loud things, loud people, loud animals, loud nature, nothing.
Favorite Color: Deep, Hunter Green. It might be just a little bit influenced by the awesome aesthetic made for his role, but it's a pretty color. To Eli, it symbols knowledge. Well, he feels smarter when that deep green is involved in pretty much anything.
Family:
• Eli's mother, Joan Boken. Good, healthy relationship, but it is mostly in Eli's terms. He comes to see her when he wants to, and will answer her phone calls when he sees fit. She understands, to a point, but makes fun of him on occasion for being such a recluse.
• Eli's father, Matthew Boken. A very distant relationship, to be true. They don't see each other very often, but when they do they just read together. No talking, no looking at each other. In Eli's opinion it is quite nice. Matthew is a philosopher, part time. He works at a meat shop to fill in the other half of is day.
• Eli's annoying older sister, Evelyn. She likes to bug him about being to quiet, about being to distant, about being to "stuck up in those books" all the time. On occasion, they will have brunch together and whatnot, but even then, Eli has with him the morning paper. Othertimes, upon their scheduled meeting, he will simply not show up.
• Eli's uncle, John. Good relationship, Eli actually likes him. Mostly because John leaves him alone. Eli can come and go as he likes, and John is totally okay with that.
It's not that Elias doesn't like his family, he just hates company. He loves them very deeply, and will sometimes just pop over for the day to spend time with them. Once in a blue moon.
Other Connections: Oof yeah. Eli had a brief fling with I'll Rip Your Arms Off, but they broke up. Well, he broke up with her because he didn't think she took the relationship serious enough.
Now things are very iffy. They aren't really on speaking terms, and try to avoid each other. Well, Eli does. He would prefer to avoid I'll Rip Your Arms Off as much as possible. Avoid and ignore. Pretty much, he pretends she isn't even there.
Allergies/Intolerances: He's allergic to stupid.
I'm kidding, it's actually just heavy pollen and cinnamon. It's nothing too serious, but he does get sick whenever he ingests cinnamon. Cinnamon scented things make him cough though.
Other Medical Conditions: Uhhhh does having glasses count? Because this kid is very nearsighted. Without his glasses, he is blind as a fricken worm. And worms don't have eyes. His nearsightedness was caused by reading at night to much, and not having proper lighting.
Backstory: Elias grew up in a nice home, that let him be thoroughly educated. Once he learned to read, practically everything else went out the window. He didn't want to play sports, or do any of that nonsense, when he could read about worlds far away and real adventures, and dragons, and whatever he could get his hands on. He even read a dictionary once. Cover to cover. Granted, it took him a week, but he was really bored that week.
His father used to say, "You can always tell who learned from books, because they pronounce everything wrong." This is exactly true of Eli. All his life he grew up thinking that the word "prodigy" was said, " prodigee". And his family let him! There were others, but most have been corrected. He still can't pronounce everything correctly, but who can?
His life was mostly spent in a library, or small corner in Which to read. He didn't have very good lighting for half the time, so his eyes strained and got very nearsighted. If you take his glasses away, you take his general sight away. Everything beyond where he would hold a book to his face, is just...blobby colors. Not very distinct blobs either.
Since then, he also has a little glasses cleaning rag thing that he keeps on his satchel.
Which God They'd Want: Cree, god of knowledge.
Why They Think They'd Be Chosen By Aforementioned God: Because he's smart, Eli's smart, he likes reading, Eli like reading, libraries are like food, you have to have them to survive, and uhh Eli thinks that he's the most chill one of 'em. Probably, because Cree doesn't seem to do a whole lot, that'll let Eli just hang out in his reading nook with his coffee cake and a book. That would be cool.
Other: His last name (Boken) is actually like a wooden training sword kinda thing in Japanese. I thought it was cool because knowledge his Eli's weapon or whatever. Anyway, just a little tidbit I thought interesting.
