Short Story: Robin Sides (Part Four)
Laura spent a long time trying to get to know the different emotions of her boyfriend. Joesph was easy. He just rambled on and on. He loved brownies and stars and nature. Really, everything Damian loved.
Adam just wanted to hurry up and become one person again. And he hated Hades.
Sambmissed Oliva, Damian's mom.
Freddy .. Still didn't say anything.
Carl said he really didn't care.
They were all.. Pretty interesting. Joesph flipped over the magical plates that CHB had and made it summon a bunch of peanut butter brownies with pecans. All the emotions shared from his plate. Even Adam snatched up a few. Carl said he wasn't hungry but ended up with one anyway.
Adam went nuts on the training field. The others just hid in the corner, Sam bawling, Freddy looking like he was having a panic attack, Carl even looked shocked, and Joesph was trying to soothe the freaking out emotions while also trying to stop Adam from killing anyone. And as all of this went on, the Hecate kids still didn't seem to be making any progress.
The Damians and Laura went back to the Hecate cabin. Adam almost lashed out on the poor campers. Freddy was still panicked about that and Sam looked like he was trying to cry but he was out of tears and just curled in a corner. Joesph kept trying to make the best of it.
"Maybe they can fuse on their own," One Hecate kid suggested.
"What do you mean?" Another asked.
The Hecate girl walked over to where Laura had gathered all the Damians. "I mean, they are still all a part of one person. Maybe they can just.. Fuse."
"How?" Joseph asked, now paying attention.
"I.. Don't know. Try touching each other?"
"They've been touching since they were sepreated," Laura sighed.
"Maybe.. Maybe there's a reason they aren't fusing. Are you all agreeing on how Damian's current mental state is?"
Joesph sighed. "I.. I-"
"He's a mess," Adam cut in, blunt as usual.
Fear nodded a little. Sam sniffled. Carl shrugged. Joesph sighed. "Yeah.."
"Okay... Maybe you guys need to talk and figure out how to make Damian less of a mess," the Hecate girl grinned, sure that this would help. Laura wanted to say something but didn't. Damian wasn't a mess. He was.. Complicated. But he was always like that.. He's not a mess. But.. His own emotions are saying that he is..
"Oh I can go on and on about what's wrong with Damian," Adam sighed dramatically. "Hades is an asshole-"
"Don't speak about Dad that way!" Joseph gasped.
"Don't call that ass 'Dad'!" Adam snapped. "Anyway, yeah. He's an ass. Mom is a coward-"
"M-Mom was n-not!" Sam forced out through newly found tears.
"Yes she was!" Adam snapped again, making Sam burst into a sobbing fit. Joseph hugged him only for Sam to tense.
"No she wasn't! How could you say that! She loved Damian!" Sam yelled, Laura shocked at hearing him raise his voice for the first time since she's.. Well seen him.
Joseph drew back too. Adam's eyes seemed to burst into flames at that. "You don't try to kill the people you love!"
"She wasn't thinking right!"
"That's no excuse! Damian could have died!"
"Well Mom died instead!"
Joseph grabbed Sam's arm, trying to pull him so he was sitting again. Sam just stood there, crying into his other arm sleeve. Adam folded his arms and gripped his sleeves, looking like he was ready to explode.
"Okay.." Laura said softly. "So Adam and Sam have said something. What about you Carl?"
"I don't really care."
"Of course," Laura sighed. "Um.. Freddy?"
Freddy avoided eye contact.
"Of course."
"Um.. Well.. Maybe it's because I haven't made an appearance often," Joy said softly. Almost like if his voice passed a certain volume, everything around them would explode. That's how heavy the tension had already gotten.
"What's there to be happy about?!" Adam hissed.
"Laura and the others are back," Joseph suggested, motioning towards Laura. "And they don't hate Damian for... Ya know.."
"They should," Adam grumbled.
"But we don't," Laura repeated what Joesph had pointed out. Said emotion grinned. "See?!"
"Whatever."
"And maybe if we didn't have such a big grudge of Dad-"
"Don't even go there," Adam glared.
"I mean, we've had this grudge before we even knew what grudges were!" Joseph sighed. "Is it really worth it? Dad's done a lot for us.."
"Like give us the abilities and what not that led to all the bad things that happened in Damian's life."
That voice was new. Not one Laura heard. It was shaky and sounded more like a mere squeak. But it was still somewhat grumpy. Somewhat.. Bitter.
"Fear?" Laura asked, bewildered at the fact that he had spoken. It was true. Freddy-Fear- was sitting upright. He was still hugging himself uncertainly, but he was locking eyes with Joesph. The joyful emotion shrunk back a little.
"Think about it," Freddy sighed, his head tilting back down. "If Damian wasn't a demigod, those ghosts wouldn't have bothered us. Peter.. Wouldn't have been there." The fearful emotion shuddered at the name Peter. The others did too, even Carl. "What happened in the school wouldn't have. We wouldn't have gone to all of those therapy sessions for nothing. Aunt Lisa and Uncle Theo wouldn't have died. Buddy.. Wouldn't have died." Sam let out a small sob at the names Buddy, Lisa, and Theo. "That Hellhound wouldn't have came after us. Peter wouldn't have made us kill Laura and the others. We wouldn't have had to move because of that. We wouldn't have been able to shadow travel into the Underworld with mom.. And mom wouldn't have tried to give us up to the monsters.. And mom wouldn't have died. Then we wouldn't have left the Underworld and had Peter send us on a killing spree... This is all his fault."
Everything was silent at that. "He's right," Sam mumbled.
"I already knew this shit," Adam huffed.
Freddy grabbed Sam's hand, seeking comfort after having that strange outburst. Laura noticed the two were... Glowing? Joesph wasn't touching anyone. He was staring blankly at nothing. Adam stood up suddenly, growling. Sam then stood up and reached out. "Wait-"
As soon as Sam touched Adam's arm, there was this flash of light. Joseph jumped back, grabbing and dragging both Laura and Carl back with him. Once the light died down, the Hecate kids were found huddled in a far corner. Joesph let go of Laura and Carl, but his gaze was still locked on something. Then the gazes of the Hecate kids found it. Then Carl found it. Then.. Laura found it.. No him.
There was another Damian. Freddy, Sam, and Adam were gone. In their place was a new Damian. He wore a dark grey hoodie and was hugging himself. But there were big differences. Damian's scar across his eye was open, blood running down that side of his face. Not only that, but the sleeves of his hoodie were rolled up and his arms were covered in blood as well. The Damian didn't seem to care. He was somehow paler than Damian himself, his dark hair fell lifeless over his face. His eyes-eye- was dull and almost just as lifeless. The bags under his eyes were dark and large. He was even trembling a little, tears rimming his eyes. Laura lunged forward, taking the Damian's hands. He gasped, pulled away in a startled manner.
"Who...?" Joesph stared at the new Damian with.. Fear? Confusion? How strange. Joy wasn't supposed to look anything but happy.. Right? Even Carl had ducked behind Joesph in.. Fear. "Who are you?"
The Damian took a step back from Laura, sniffling a bit and taking a shaky breath. "I... I..." He paused. "I... I'm Trauma."
