Leonidas Vigileer (for apply fanfiction)

For an amazing applyfic by my bestie! blondiescass
Leonidas is one of my favorite characters that I created and this format really gave me the chance to expand on his character and add a few twists to fit the new storyline. :)

Role: The Selfless Volunteer
Full Name: Leonidas Vigileer
Preferred Names: He only lets his mother, brother, and Johanna call him Leo. He doesn't like it when anyone else calls him that.
Age: 17 years (at the start). He will probably be 18 or 19 at the end.
Gender: Cisgender Male
Sexuality and Pronouns: Heterosexual, He/Him
Zodiac: Capricorn
Birthdate: December 25th
Love Interest: Johanna Mason

Face Claim: Aramis Knight

District or Capitol: District, but he has ties to the Capitol unwillingly
Tribute or Mentor: Tribute
Thoughts on the Hunger Games: Leonidas believes that The Hunger Games are evil. Not just because of the killing, but because of what it stands for and the manipulation behind it. He hates the propaganda and the division amongst people. He wants an end to the war and if a rebellion were to start, he would support it. He just wouldn't want to be at the forefront of it because it would put his mother and brother at risk, but he would definitely do silent acts of rebellion, such as boycotting. He would also speak up if he could, but he has to be careful. He admires Johanna because she just says whatever is on her mind, but it also worries him because he doesn't want her to get hurt.
Thoughts on Cassieopeia: Leonidas acts like he hates Cassie because he hates the Capitol (especially his dad), but deep down, he can relate to Cassie and that is why he hates her the most. She makes him see all the darkest parts about himself that he hates.
Thoughts on Laila: Leonidas also relates to Laila because she is an introvert with trust issues. He likes her and they can have meaningful conversations that aren't too deep and don't make either of them uncomfortable. He considers her a good friend.
Thoughts on the tributes: Leonidas does not have time to focus on what he thinks of each tribute personally. He is just trying to survive, but he will form opinions as he goes. For example, he admires Johanna. He doesn't know what to think of Finnick. Part of him pities Finnick.
Thoughts on the Capitol: Leonidas is frightened of the Capitol as a whole and he despises them, especially because his father is now one of them. Leonidas is aware that some of them are too privileged to know the true horrors of the war and he doesn't blame the Capitol children, but he believes he knows that the Capitol itself is a terrorist entity and he is hyper aware of their devious actions. He sees through all their propaganda and pities the people who don't.

Personality: Unlike every other District 1 tribute, Leonidas never got prior training like the Careers because his father pulled strings to get him out of it. The reason for this is unknown, but he receives special training after the reaping.
Leonidas is short and is rather slim compared to most bulked-up muscular boys his age. Many people underestimate him for this, but his slimness makes him very agile and he is quick on his feet.
In addition to being quick, he has a lot of stamina and is physically strong. He has to be that way since he is the main caretaker of his household.
His mother and brother mean the world to him. He would sacrifice himself for them in a heartbeat, and anyone who mistreats them will suffer from his wrath.
He is soft-spoken and has a way with words. He is secretly a writer who writes poetry and love stories in his spare time.
Background: Leonidas Vigileer and his twin brother, Lysander, were born in District 1. He and Lysander were two of the very few people in District 1 who had darker skin, so, despite coming from a rich district, they suffered from discrimination and exclusion. Their father, who was also dark-skinned, was a deadbeat. He abandoned his family to get Capitol benefits and cheated on their mother, Myra, with a capitol woman. Leonidas and Lysander were only twelve years old at this time.
Lysander was born with severe autism and Myra had fallen chronically ill, so Leonidas forced himself to step up and become the main caretaker of his family. He had a knack for creating things and became a jeweler to make money in the marketplace. Lysander was reaped for the Hunger Games, so Leonidas bravely volunteered to take his place.
Strengths: Mentioned in his personality section
Weaknesses: Mentioned in his personality section
Family: Mentioned in his backstory

Extras:
- His relationship with his father mirrors Katniss's relationship with Snow in the original trilogy. They have a constant rivalry. Leonidas hates his dad, but his dad doesn't actually hate him at all.
- He sings lullabies to his mother and brother to help them sleep.
- He has a special method to help his brother calm down that involves singing the Mockingjay whistle in different pitches.
- He is the little spoon when he cuddles with Johanna. Johanna will never admit that she cuddles with anyone, but will throw hands if anyone else cuddles with her man.
- He is very insecure about his appearance and sometimes overworks himself to gain muscles, but it never works.
- I'll send more if I think of them.
Quotes:
- "I volunteer as tribute!"
- "I never asked for any of this. I just wanted to save my brother and keep Johanna alive."
- "They feed us this propaganda and people believe it. It's time we start showing them the truth."
- "I can't be the Mockingjay."
