"New York isn't an evil city, it's the people in it that give it that reputation. And for my part, I'd like to not contribute to that, wouldn't you agree?"

Hair Color: Brown
Hair Length: Mid-back
Hair Texture: Flat
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5'6

Distinguishing Facial Features:
- Josie has a natural, distinct pink color to her lips. No matter how cold it gets or how many unfortunate days without food she goes, her lips still hold that same healthy color, like she's wearing lipstick all the time.
- Josie seems to talk with her eyebrows. When she speaks, her eyebrows will animate her expression along with her.
Type of Clothing:
Unfortunately due to her low class and extremely low income, Josie really only owns one outfit. It consists of a pair of always clean brown combat boots, a long blue skirt that reaches her ankles (it used to reach her feet, but she's grown out of it a bit over the years) and a white blouse that isn't as white as it was when Josie first got it. She also normally has her hair tied up when she's working, but takes it down once she's done for the day since she prefers letting it loose.

Personality Description:
Josie very much fits the demeanor of the laid back, care free, head in the clouds type of girl. She's just kind of there to enjoy the ride and has a prominent 'go with the flow' type of attitude when it comes to the ups and downs that comes with working in New York. She's learned that the only sure thing in life she can control is herself, it's one of her strongest beliefs that she sticks by.
Josie is very selfless, she would jump in front of a moving bullet to save the people she loved if she had to. She's got very few people by her side left, so she's fiercely loyal to the friends she is lucky to have.
Josie is also very fun-loving. With her, plans simply don't exist. So she just comes up with things to do on the spot and follows wherever that takes her. She loves simply exploring the city when she has time and finding new things to do and new people to meet.
Josie's always the one cracking jokes to lighten the mood and has a very dry sense of humor. But she's also very in tune with the people around her, especially her friends, so she's a good person to just vent to or ask for advice.

Backstory:
Josie grew up in a single parent, but very happy home. Her mother unfortunately had died of tuberculosis when she was a toddler, so she was raised by her father and her grandmother. She remembers very little of her mother, everything she knows was told by her father.
Her family had always been extremely poor, and from a young age Josie was trained to take over her father's 'business'. Though it was pathetic to even call it that, for all it was was a small shoe shining station on a corner in Manhattan, New York. It was simply a chair, a footstool, a can to collect money, and a dingy sign. But it was his pride and joy, and so Josie was raised to become just as proud of it.
Josie helped her father make money at his shoe shining station all the way up until she turned eleven when tragedy struck. Her father had been killed in a runaway carriage accident, which left Josie and her grandmother devastated. And due to her frail grandmother's old age it affected her health as well. This is what lead Josie to suggest that her grandmother should move out of the city and go somewhere with fresh air and less people.
But of course they could only afford one train ticket, so Josie sent her grandmother to live in Oklahoma alone without her. As much as it pained her to do so, she wanted to make sure the only family she had left was taken care of. Ever since then Josie has worked as a shoe shiner alone to make enough money to join her grandmother down south, and after a while she began to get acquainted with the boys who would sell newspapers near her shoe shine station, which is how she befriended all the newsies.

_______
- No matter how many times Jack and the other newsies have invited her to sleep in the Lodging House, Josie has never accepted it. Mostly because she doesn't want to take a bed from someone else who might need it. So she takes shelter wherever she can, mostly on old fire escapes or rooftops.
- Since money is so frugal, Josie hasn't been able to afford to write a letter or call her grandmother in Oklahoma. She hasn't heard a word from her since she left six years ago.
