Chapter 1: Sam: She's Just Like You
Beep. Beep.
I heard my alarm clock go off and I opened my eyes. Then I walked into the living room after I got off my bed. Taurtis was sitting on the one chair we had left, facing the wall.
"Taurtis," I said. He turned around. "Are you ready for school?"
"Yeah," Taurtis said, turning around. "Are you? Yuki threatened you big time yesterday. Are you still going to go to school?"
"Of course," I said in my sarcastic-ish voice. "I don't listen to threats. Pfft! I went to jail, Taurtis. I'm in the Snugglemuffin gang!"
"Well," Taurtis said in a slightly sadder voice. "I'm in it too."
"Yeah, but you're not like me. I've been to jail," I repeated.
"Yeah, I guess so." Taurtis looked down in shame.
I sighed. "Come on, Taurtis. We need to go."

Me and Taurtis, after finally getting out of our apartment building, headed to the local store. Pepe, a fellow student and a talking frog, was unusually happy and was walking around inside the store. Usually, he was forced to stay outside by a shop worker, PufferFishPete, who didn't like him at all. But now, since Pepe had proposed to his daughter, PufferFish Patty, he had to be allowed inside the store. He was even holding hands with Patty, and Pete couldn't do anything about it.
"Taurtis, Taurtis, bro, look," I whispered to Taurtis. "Pepe and Patty are holding hands. And Pepe's inside the store!"
"Dude," Taurtis whispered back. "Pepe's got game with that fedora. I can't believe he proposed to Patty at prom last night."
"I know right? Pepe's got so much game."
We got a few snacks from the store, then walked to the place across from the train station, where we got our tickets.
"Can you get me one, Sam?" Taurtis pleaded. "Please?" I looked at him with an annoyed face, and he made one of those puppy dog looks.
"Ugh, fine," I said, putting some more money into the machine. The ticket popped out, Taurtis took it, then ran off.
Once we were on the train I actually didn't go to sleep like I usually did. Instead, I stared out the window thinking about SirCutieYuki. She was supposed to be me and Taurtis' date to prom, but then another girl, Chan Yandere, had been left crying because her "date", our friend Grian, wasn't there because he went back to England, so Taurtis decided to make her his new date. I dumped Yuki for us, and she got really mad at me and pulled out a knife. I didn't really like her though. I only wanted her because Taurtis had her, and I wanted to make him mad. Then, at the after party at Sookie Yaki's house, she went beserk and ran around the house with the knife shouting, "WHERE IS SAM? I SAID WHERE IS HE!" I broke the upstairs window and ran for my life. Then we stayed at Chan's house until the middle of the night, when we walked back to our apartment.
As I looked into the window's glass I saw my reflection. I felt my bunny ears. Since I was part rabbit, I made a hat with two holes cut out of it that, when I put it on, made my ears look like part of the hat. As far as I knew, only Taurtis and Pepe knew they were actually my ears.

Me and Taurtis arrived at school before the bell rang, for once. We were usually late, but for some reason things were changing in our town.
We took our seats and our teacher, Mrs. Okami Artist, called role.
"Hidden?" she called.
"Here."
"Pie?" Pie made a muffled noise through his mask.
"Ellen?"
"Here."
"Jts?"
"Here."
"Silly?"
"Present."
"Necra?"
"Also present."
"Sookie?"
"Here."
"Star?"
"Here."
"Soul?"
"Here."
"Yuki?"
"Here."
"Invader?"
"Here."
"Sam?"
I waved my hand in the air and shouted, "I'm here!"
"Taurtis?" He did the same thing as me.
"Chan?"
"Here."
"Dom?"
"Here."
"J?"
"Here."
"Gracie?"
"Here."
"Pepe?"
"Here."
"Patty?"
"Here."
"Well then, class." Okami walked out from behind her desk.
"Today we have a new student," she said, gesturing a girl through the door. "Her name is Chrissy Karu. Chrissy, why don't you tell us a bit about yourself."
Chrissy came us to the front of the class. She was actually really pretty. Her brown, curly hair had some slight red in it, and her pale blue eyes twinkled with shyness and nervousness.
"H-hi," Chrissy said softly. "I-I'm Chrissy. I-I just moved here from another c-country, because m-my father runs a company, s-so he has to move around a l-lot."
"Thank you Chrissy," Okami said. "You can sit down now." Chrissy sat down in the seat in front of me. Okami continued with the lesson.
"I appreciate all of you for coming to prom yesterday," she said. "It means a lot to me and the school. I will now pass out today's assignment." Okami walked around passing out papers that said the day's assignment. I read mine.
"Today's assignment is to write a paragraph about your hero," it said. "If you don't finish, you can work on it at home. It is due tomorrow. Have fun! :)"
"Who are you gonna write about?" Taurtis asked me from my right. "I'm gonna write about Rowan. He's such a boss."
Rowan Artifex is our gym teacher in school. He is Okami's wife and Silly and Necra's father. He is very abusive. And loud. But he is a boss.
"I don't know," I said to Taurtis. "Who do you think I should write about?"
"Invader." Taurtis snickered.
"Stop trying to make me and Invader a thing!" I whisper-yelled. "We aren't a thing! We'll never be a thing! I've been trying to tell you this since day one!" Invader is a blonde, bearded girl in our class that is the daughter of a cop/movie star named Paul Blart. She really likes me but I don't like her. I've hated her from the first day we kissed when she was giving me CPR. But being as annoying as she is, she tried in every way to get me to like her. None of them have worked.
Suddenly, the bell rang.
"Alright class," Okami said. "You are dismissed!" We all filed out the door and down the stairs to the lunch room.
Me and Taurtis sat in the same place we always do: at the table farthest to the left with J. He has been our friend ever since we started school, and he's filthy rich.
As we started to eat Taurtis nudged me in the shoulder.
"What is it Taurtis?" I asked impatiently.
"Dude, look at the new girl," Taurtis pointed at Chrissy, sitting alone on the steps of the door that led to the back of the school, where Gareth, a teacher, and Taurtis' ex-girlfriend, Salex's graves lay. Gareth committed suicide and Salex was run over by a car.
"What about her?" I asked Taurtis, who was still looking at Chrissy.
"Dude, she's just like you when you were the new kid. Shy, alone..." Taurtis looked at me. "Dude you should totally go sit with her. Even give her a carrot. I'm sure that's what she needs right now."
"Are you sure?" I asked. "Because last time you told me to do this I ended up really embarrassed and got the nicknames 'carrot kid' and 'bunny boy'."
"I'm sure this time dude. Look, she looks so lonely. She only has a piece of bread to eat."
"Alright Taurtis," I said nervously. "But if something goes wrong, it's all your fault."
