23| The Southern Belle
"Time to fight fire with fire," I said to myself as I checked my reflection.
I had twenty minutes left before I was supposed to meet the boys downstairs to go to Jack's Bar. I knew Wyatt was going to try something- anything- to win this bet. He was going to put the charm on or try to make me jealous. I was determined to win and not back down. Hence the outfit.
I've never really worn anything like this. I've never even owned anything like this. I left early this morning and went to do some shopping alone. After all, if he was going to try to seduce me into bed, I wasn't going to make it easy for him.
I looked at my reflection again. I was wearing a short black skirt, a red top that had a deep V, and a matching leather jacket. I was also wearing red high heels to match. It was going to drive him crazy. I had no intention of letting Wyatt win the bet. But a girl still has to have her fun.
I also decided to wait until we get back home to the city before I talk to Logan. We were leaving in two days and it didn't feel right to have that talk here. The truth was, I've always known who I belonged with. It was always Wyatt. I did love Logan, but not the same way. I wasn't in love with him.
I needed to end it with Logan. I needed to tell him that I couldn't go through with it. But not here. We needed to have a long talk. We needed to talk about the secret affair he was having, we needed to talk about what happened between Wyatt and myself, we also needed to talk about his parents. They were looking forward to Logan and I getting married. That's the main reason I didn't want to ruin everyone's trip. I didn't know how this was going to play out.
But don't get too excited. Just because I was ending it with Logan didn't mean I was ready to marry Wyatt and sail off into the sunset. I still had trust issues when it came to being in a relationship with him. The last time I wanted more, he freaked out and ran away for four years. I still felt the pain of that day. He wasn't just some guy that rejected me. I lost my best friend all that time. The one person I did trust. I just-- wasn't ready.
After I tell Logan it's over, I'm going to tell Wyatt that I want to be together, without being together. I want to continue the way we were. The two of us seeing how it is being together. Maybe going on dates. Definitely more of the chemistry and passion we seem to have between us. I shivered at the thought. Yes. Way more of that.
I checked my hair one more time. I washed and straightened it. Not only did I prefer it straight, but so did Wyatt. I grabbed my cellphone and wallet from the sink and slipped them into my small clutch. I glanced at my watch and cursed under my breath. I was running late. I quickly left my room and started down the hallway. If I didn't hurry and get down there, then--
"Lia?"
I stopped where I was. Wyatt was standing in front of me at the top of the stairs. Damn. I knew he would come looking for me. Probably just in case I had one of my episodes. I felt my heart start to beat a little faster as I took in his appearance. He was wearing dark denim jeans and a blue shirt. He also had his favorite old baseball hat on backwards. Dammit.
"Hey," I said as casually as I could. "Sorry I was running a little late."
He took a few steps towards me, his hungry gaze taking in my appearance from head to high heel. He stopped in front of me and pointed at my outfit. "This is new."
I held his gaze, basically daring him. "It is."
He closed the small distance between us and I didn't move an inch. "This is--" he let out a low whistle-- "very sexy." When he leaned forward, my eyes closed as he nuzzled my neck.
"Thank you," I said more breathlessly than I wanted. My whole plan to make him jealous seemed to go out of the window. I placed my arms on his shoulders, pulling him closer instead of pushing him away.
He had the same idea. I felt his hands grip my waist and pull my body flush against his. His hard length pressed against my hip as he trailed hot kisses along my neck and jaw. He captured my lips in a passionate kiss. His tongue probed inside my mouth. Seeking, taking what he wanted. I moaned into his mouth as he deepened the kiss.
"Amelia! Wyatt!"
I faintly heard Logan calling us from downstairs. Instead of answering, I wrapped my arms tighter around Wyatt's neck. I wanted more. I needed more. And Wyatt seemed more than willing to give it to me.
"Hey, guys!" Logan called again. His voice seemed closer now. He must be at the base of the stairs. "You up there?"
Wyatt pulled his mouth away from mine. We were standing just out of sight from Logan. "You have two options here, Lia." I could barely concentrate when he had his hands on me. Or when he was looking at me like that. "Either we both go out with Logan tonight and promise to behave until we ome home to finish this, or you come up with some excuse to bail and I take you to my bed right fucking now."
He leaned forward and put his mouth to my ear. "Honestly, I'm hoping you pick option two."
So did I. But that was against the rules I made. I wasn't going to let him win that easily. "Option one," I whispered.
Wyatt pulled away from me and took a few steps back. "Looks like I got my work cut out for me."
"Hey," Logan said as he came up the stairs. "You guys ready or what? Wow," he said when he saw my outfit. "You look amazing, Amelia."
"Thank you." I glanced to Wyatt before I walked over to Logan and linked my arm with his. "Let's get going."
Just as we got to the staircase, I looked over my shoulder. "Coming, Wyatt?"
"Let me break." I walked around the pool table and put all the balls in the rack. Logan went to get us another round of drinks and Wyatt was standing of to the side watching me intently. I kept my eyes on the task in front of me as I rolled the rack back and forth.
Once it was in position, I removed the black triangle and walked around to the other side of the table. I placed the white cue ball where I wanted it before I walked over to where Wyatt was standing. My pool stick was leaning againt the wall behind him.
"Excuse me," I said quietly as I reached behind him. I took my time grabbing the stick, brushing my breasts against his chest as I leaned forward. I knew I was being a tease, but I loved it. So did he.
He shot me a wink. "You're excused."
Logan returned and came over to the high-top table. "Here's the drinks!"
I turned and grabbed my Long Island, throwing Logan a smile. "Thank you."
"Thanks man," Wyatt added when he grabbed his beer. "Ready to get this party started?"
"Lets do it!" I got in position and leaned over the pool table. I balanced the stick between my fingers and slid it back and forth slowly, never touching the cue ball. I could feel Wyatt's eyes on every move I was making. Just as my pool stick hit the cue ball, my eyes met his.
I managed to get two solids into a pocket. I walked to the side of the table to take another shot. And missed. It was Wyatt's turn now. He passed by me.
"Better luck next shot, Lia," he teased.
I smiled but didn't say anything back. I walked to stand beside Logan.
"How are you feeling?" he asked quietly.
I frowned at him. "I'm fine. Why? Should I not be?"
His shoulder brushed against mine as he shrugged a shoulder. "I don't know. You've just seemed...different the past few days."
I watched as Wyatt lined up his stick to take his shot. "So have you," I said pointedly.
"Yeah." Logan cleared his throat. "I think we should talk. Soon."
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Was he going to tell me about the affiar? Or did he already know about Wyatt and I somehow? "Yeah, we should."
When Wyatt missed the shot, Logan snickered and walked over to his brother.
"Too bad. Maybe next time, little brother."
Wyatt came and stood beside me. "Yeah, we'll see. It's still early."
I watched Logan walk over to the pool table and look for a shot. Normally, pool is a two person game. But Logan and I were on a team. I tried to focus on something besides Wyatt standing so close to me. That was until a pretty redhead walked over. Come to find out...a regular Southern Belle.
"Hey there," she said with a thick southern accent. "I'm Lila."
"Hey, Lila. I'm Wyatt." He extended his hand out and she shook it.
She gave him a shy expression. "I was just getting ready to go home. I was worried that there wouldn't be any decent men here tonight."
Excuse me while I go throw up in my mouth. Ugh. She wasn't even his type. At all.
"Looks like you're in luck," Wyatt said smoothly.
The next thirty minutes went by painfully slow. As the game went on, I had to watch while Wyatt shamelessly flirted with this Southern redheaded floozy. I knew he was trying to make me jealous. And it was working. She tried to kiss him twice. Thankfully, he didn't let her. When he leaned over her to 'show her how to shoot' I decided a little revenge was in order.
I waited until the right moment when Wyatt glanced over at me. Then...I kissed Logan. I knew Wyatt was watching and I could also tell Logan was surprised. Very surprised. When I pulled away from the kiss, I said, "I'll be right back. I'm going to go powder my nose."
I shot Wyatt a glance before I walked towards the back of the bar towards the ladies room. I knew there was a fifty/fifty chance that Wyatt would follow me. And I'm glad I was right. Just as I reached the knob for the women's restroom, Wyatt grabbed my arm and turned me to face him.
His clutched my body to his and kissed me with a demanding need I never knew he had. He reached behind me and opened the door. He ushered me back into the one stall bathroom and I went eagerly.
He pulled away long enough to shut and lock the bathroom door. Then...I lost the bet.
