CHAPTER TWENTY.

20
*********

"Why should I stop John, why! She's the one who caused all of this, your father and I were happily married before she started working with him" Jennifer yelled as tears streamed down her rosy cheeks. Her husband was now holding her tightly on his chest, her back was attached with his chest as she was kicking her feet on the air and yelling trying to get off his grip.

Her face was now in a red shade color because of screaming her lungs out and crying out loud. My mother's peach dress was now covered with red wine stains since Jennifer threw a full glass of wine from across the table to my mother. Luckily it didn't land on her since she dodged it and it flew straight to the grass floor.

"It's not my fault that you failed to give what the man needs-" yelled my mother with her finger pointing at John's mother accusingly. She was discontinued by my dad, "mary you're a married woman how can you even say that" he ran his fingers through his almost bald-headed head.

He was fuming of anger, from what my mom just said.

My mother turned to look directly to my dad "I'm sorry I didn't mean to-" my dad shushed her unpleasantly as he threw his hands on the air in front of my mom's face. She stood still without saying a word. My dad was now moving around in circles with my mother around him, attempting to apologize, as my dad kept blowing her away from his side.

All this happened after John's father took over from my mother's speech since she was stuttering and explaining what didn't really make sense. She seemed like she was not sure about what she wanted to say.

That was when John's father stopped her and he took over from where she left and he made sense out of everything my mother was struggling to say. He confirmed their affair of 28 years, he said my mother started working for him as a personal assistant in one of his businesses back in Johannesburg, and that was when they started dating.

He was about to say more but was distracted by his wife's sudden wild behavior.

Right now everyone was on their feet, the dinner table was no longer as impressive as it was before the conformation.

My mother was standing next to my dad as they now had a quiet conflict. It seems like my mother was apologizing and pleading with my dad, they were not screaming but I could tell they were contending.

(I knew this was coming)

"Jennifer! calm down-" John's father was screaming to his now wild wife, he was cut off by her yells again "James no, no, you did this you were never loyal to me NEVER, let me kill her" she was saying all these now she had finally escaped from her husband's grip.

Walking would be an understatement for her pace, she was tramping towards the direction where my mother was, Mr. Robertson followed behind her, trying to calm his wife down but she was wild.

Really wild, she was more like untouchable.

On her way she swiftly grabbed a bottle of wine, instantly she smashed it on the table edge, holding it on its mouth as the bottom was now broken, broken glass pieces on the table. As the broken bottle on her hand was now a dangerous weapon.

All I heard were 'oh my God' from Zoe and Nick who were standing afar from the drama scene, all they did was to glare at the drama caused by Jennifer.

John moved as quickly as he can, pushing Zoe and Nick out of his way as they both stumbled and fall on the ground with a thump, next to each other, That looked sore.

I rushed to the direction where my mother was, I wanted to protect her. Her stare was wide and afraid.

"Mom! No" John yelled to his mother and held her before she could reach my mother and stab her. My eyes shaped an 'O' as John and his mother fought over a now broken hazardous bottle of wine.

"She deserves it, after killing her ill kill your damn father, no! John let me do it ill be satisfied" she screamed even louder, more like a growl. Tears were rolling freely on her cheeks, her beautiful features were disappearing, due to the violent expression. She looked scary if demons are real I'll say she was possessed by a furious one.

John was strong enough to snatch the broken bottle off his mother's hand, she fall down on the ground with a thud, landing on her bottom as she wept her broken heart out. Her husband strolled towards her, knelt down as he comforts his heartbroken wife.

Silence filled the garden, everyone looked relieved after John has snatched the broken bottle from his mother's hand. My heart level slowly decreased to pump normal.

I glanced at my mother who now had her hand to her chest, signaling relief. Did my dad care to bring her in for a hug no, but he was giving her a hurtful glare.

"Dad, I need to talk to you right now!" Exclaimed John with his teeth clenched, as he formed a fist. I could see veins through his neck coat and forehead. He was furious, I have never seen him that way before not to think of imagining him in that state.

After saying those words he bounced towards the house followed by his father, leaving his wife sitting on the ground with her face buried in between her knees as she hugged her legs with both her hands on each side, sobbing but lower this time.

Everyone was standing still awkwardly.

My good-hearted friend strolled slightly towards Jennifer as she patted her shoulder, asking her to stand up, "Mrs-uhm Jennifer, let get you to the house" she pressed her lips on a thin line still glancing at Jennifer who was now slowing from sobbing.

Without hesitation, she stood up with Zoe's help and they both headed back to the house, followed by Nick, awkwardly.

The awkwardness was feeling the whole garden between me and my parents.

My dad was fuming, in this situation. his face was filled with emotions and sadness. Guilt and shame decorated my Mothers face. I was disappointed with her, I was extremely disappointed with her.

I moved slowly towards them, they were standing barely next to each other. Both of them gazed at me as I strolled closer.

I wanted to scream at my mother but I controlled my impulse.

"My little girl, dad's leaving now, tomorrow I'm flying back home, right now I need some rest. We will talk when you get back. Please make it sooner" my dad uttered those words in a shaky voice, I knew he was holding tears back.

(My daddy is hurt, he is heartbroken)

As for My mother on his side, she was now searching for something on the ground, her eyes were running around glimpsing on the grass ground. She was ashamed to look at me in the eye.

"Daddy, I'll be flying back tomorrow as well, we might take the same flight but I need to talk to John first then I'll confirm tonight," I said, holding my dad's hands before he pulled me closer for a fatherly hug. I clasp him like it was for the last time.

He slowly let go of the hug.

He kissed my forehead before patting my shoulder, he glanced at me before he walked past me, he headed back to the house, surely after that was to the front door then the car or the Uber transportation. From the glare he gave my mother before he left, definitely, he was not going to drive in the same car with her.

Awkward silent crammed the atmosphere between me and my mother. She brought out a sheepish smile before roaming her eyes back to the ground. Shame and guilt were covering her face.

I opened my arms signaling her to come for a hug. She was my mother after all and I felt a little sympathy for her, Yes I was disappointed with her but she still deserved my hug.

She opened her arms as she pressed her body against mine, I heard her sniff behind me, while still holding in the hug. I knew she was crying though she brought all this to herself I still felt her pain, I rubbed her back before letting go of the hug.

"I'm sorry about this embarrassment sweetheart-" she paused as she drop on to my shoulder once again. I squeezed her in without saying anything.

Honestly, I didn't know what to say exactly.

"Sweetheart, uhm oh my goodness I can't do this," she said as she suddenly burst out in tears. What was she trying to say, why was it difficult for her to speak her mind out. She wanted to say something but when tears escaped her eyes she stopped.

"What is it mom, talk to me" I was now curious to know what she wanted to say.

Without saying a word she rubbed my shoulder as she passed and left, I whirled my body around to look at her walk to the house, she entered through the big glass sliding doors, from a distance I saw her opening the front door after she has passed the big corridor. She stepped outside before she closed it behind her.

And she was out of my sight.

Right now I was left alone at the lovely garden, lost in thoughts. My mother wanted to say something but she stopped herself. From her expression I knew that whatever she wanted to say was important.

I grabbed one of the chairs as I seated to rest myself. The pain on my neck attacked me once again. I leaned back trying to stretch the pain away.

********

A flight going back home was not as cheerful as when I was flying to Cape Town. Worse I was Alone since John had to stay behind with his parents, to out sort their family issues.

Taking a nap pushed my time and before I knew it, I was already at OR TAMBO airport, landing.

***

"Yes Nancy I'm back but I don't think I'll be starting soon, you'll put me on sick leave right" I was supposed to be going back to work today but because of doctor's request, I had to stay home at least for a week before going back to work.

"No problem sweetie, just focus on that neck for now once you're healed you can start coming to work" my team leader Nancy was the most lovely team leader you could ask for.

The week when she heard about my engagement she just let me free for a week to enjoy myself. Unfortunately, it was not as enjoyable as I thought it would be, not after the accident and the secret being divulged.

"Ok Nancy, thank you bye" I ended the call after she had responded to my goodbyes.

(I hope that was the last drama, I'm not prepared for any of such. Not now that I'm supposed to be planning my wedding day)

(But I need to talk to my mother, she must trace away my curiosity from what she wanted to tell me last week)

At the thought of that, my heart pace increased.

John and I had decided on the day and that was a month away from today. From the thought of that my nerves attacks me with anxiousness. But at least I was not the one who will be doing the rest of the planning since John had hired a professional wedding planner.

(So in a month time I'll be someone's someone)

It was overwhelming at the same time horrific. Not knowing what to expect on that day just scared me to death. I hope everything will go as planned.

(please God no family drama)
