(Ranking up back then in E.V.E was like hell to me. After it happened everything turned for the worse. People that I cared about started dying and my life was on the line. Well, that's what I thought but apparently all of that actually didn't happen but it all felt real to me. It will most likely feel the same here. Ranking up will most likely be the death of a lot of people.)

*Y/N Pov*

Ant: "So do you mind explaining what's going on?"

Y/N: "Explain what?"

Ant: "You beta testing a game, and why that guy was trying to kill you."

Y/N: "I was beta testing this VR game called E.V.E. It's just like this game. I guess there was another VR helmet within E.V.E. We all forgot that we were beta testing the game and thought that it was all real. Chad didn't like me at all and I ended up killing him there but that didn't matter since it wasn't real. I guess he has a grudge against me since then that I can't understand."

Ant: "Oh."

Y/N: "So are you ready to rank up now?"

Ant: "Are you ready to rank up?"

Y/N: "Just gonna ignore you when you do this. Let's go."

Ant: "Okay."

We walk back into the living room and sit down.

Ant: "So how do we go into rank mode while in the game?"

Y/N: "Just reach above your head and flip the switch."

I see him reach up and flip the switch but I couldn't see it. I see some type of menu pop up in front of him.

Y/N: "What is that?"

Ant: "Not sure. Let me read it first then I'll tell you."

Y/N: "I'll just flip the switch so I can see it."

I reach up and flip the switch and a menu type of thing pops up in front of me.

"Congratulations On Ranking Up! What Attributes Would You Like To Upgrade?"

The fuck is this? This is interesting.

Strength: 1

Agility: 1

Luck: 1

Resistance: 1

Hearing: 1

Sight: 1

Stealth: 1

Hmm feel like I gotta think about this. Nice that the game starts you off with 4 points. Alright let's do this.

Strength: 2

Agility: 2

Luck: 1

Resistance: 1

Hearing: 2

Sight: 1

Stealth: 2

That should work out for now.

Ant: "Did you pick?"

Y/N: "Yeah. What did you pick?"

Ant: "Strength is 3 now and Luck is 3 as well."

Y/N: "Sounds interesting."

Ant: "What about you?"

Y/N: "Strength is 2, Agility is 2, Hearing is 2, and Sneak is 2."

Ant: "That makes it sound like you are trying to be an assassin."

Y/N: "That's kinda my aim. Kill people undetected."

Ant: "So do we just eat the XP?"

Y/N: "Yeah."

I open a bag of blue XP and start eating them.

Y/N: "This doesn't taste that bad."

I see Ant open a bag of orange XP and eat them. I start to laugh a bit. It looks like he doesn't like it.

Ant: "This taste like shit."

Y/N: "I'm guessing that's the worse XP you can get."

Ant: "I can tell now."

Y/N: "Look at the bright side, you can level up from it."

Ant: "YOU can level up from it."

Y/N: "..."

Ant: "Do you think we can save the points instead of using them right when we level up?"

Y/N: "Yeah I think we should be able to."

We stop talking and eat more XP.

*Timeskip*

We leveled up to level seven each and I'm guessing we both have 24 points we can use. I look at my stats and decided on what to mess with.

Strength: 8

Agility: 10

Luck: 3

Resistance: 2

Hearing: 5

Sight: 2

Stealth: 5

I see Ant look over at my stats and nod.

Ant: "Not bad. But my stats are better."

Y/N: "What are they now?"

Ant: "Well the only one that matters is strength so I put all 24 into strength so it's 27."

Y/N: "You are a power house now... I question you sometimes."

Ant: "What? Strength is the only thing that matters."

Y/N: "Whatever you say man."

Ant: "Well what do we do now?"

Y/N: "We most likely aren't high enough level to take on others and aren't ready to win this game. We did just--"

*Y/N's room*

I feel my helmet get taken off and I look around. I see this guy and a girl around my age looking at me.

Step Dad: "Hi there Y/N. I'm your step father and this is your step sister, Sarah."

Sarah: "Hi."

Great.

Y/N: *Sigh* "Hi."

Step Dad: "Your mother told me about you having some trouble getting over your fathers death."

Y/N: "Don't even bring that shit up."

Step Dad: "She also told me that you aren't really okay with her getting together with me."

Y/N: "I'm not okay with it. Why does it matter what I think?"

Step Dad: "Because we are going to be a part of the family now and I just want us to get along."

Y/N: "You aren't family to me. Now please leave my room."

Step Dad: "Fine, I'll see you later for dinner."

I watch both of them leave my room. This shit is fucking dumb. I'm gonna go for a walk. I open my window and leave.

*Timeskip, Skylar's Pov*

We are all sitting at the table about to eat dinner.

Mom: "I'll go get Y/N."

Step Dad: "Alright."

Skylar: "So I'm guessing Y/N wasn't happy to see you right?"

Step Dad: "He said he didn't consider us family and told us to get out of his room. So no he wasn't happy."

Skylar: "Sorry about his actions. He has been dealing with a lot lately and wasn't pleased to know mom was getting with someone this fast."

Step Dad: "It's fine, just hoping that we can get along."

Mom: "Skylar!"

Skylar: "Yeah?"

Mom: "Y/N isn't in his room and his window is open. Can you go find him?"

Skylar: "He ran away again? I'll go find him." 

Step Dad: "Again? So he does this a lot?"

Cody: "I wouldn't say he does it a lot but when he is dealing with something then he usually likes to be alone."

Step Dad: "I see."

*Y/N's Pov*

I made my way to the top of a cliff and hung my legs off of the edge thinking about shit. When are things going to get better? Why the fuck would you get together with someone that fast after your husband dies?! That's fucking stupid. If the whole thing with E.V.E was just beta testing then why don't I remember when we left it? This shit doesn't make sense.

The Devil: "Seems as though you are confused."

I stand up and look at him

Y/N: "You have things you need to answer!"

The Devil: "And that is why I am here. Ask away."

Y/N: "Did I really beta test E.V.E?"

The Devil: "Yes, you and others beta tested E.V.E but I wiped your memories of E.V.E completely."

Y/N: "Why?"

The Devil: "I never tried wiping memories before and thought it would be fun to test it on you."

Y/N: "Really? Whatever, so why don't I remember logging out of the beta in general?"

The Devil: "We logged you out but you wouldn't wake up. So we brought you back home and erased your memories. Hawaii is a really nice place."

Y/N: "Hawaii? Oh yeah, that's where we beta tested."

The Devil: "Anything else?"

Y/N: "So everything that happened in E.V.E wasn't real right?"

The Devil: "Everything that happened in there is not real. It was all just a game and that's it. For the family you had in there was a fake family that was created."

Y/N: "But why a fake family?"

The Devil: "Even I don't know the answer for that. I'm just gonna take it as you are done asking question and I can leave now. Bye Y/N! Let's hope you can win A.R.E!"

Y/N: "Wait--"

He's gone. I sit back down and hang my legs off again. Why does he care if I win A.R.E? Is there something special that happens if you win? Still wondering who made it. Fuck I should have asked him that. I start to hear some footsteps. Is someone walking up here? 

Skylar: "Y/N are you up here?"

Oh it's Sky. Mom most likely found out I left and asked her to come and find me.

Skylar: "There you are, you know mom is worried right?"

I look at her but I don't say anything.

Skylar: "What's wrong? You know you can talk to me."

Y/N: "Can we just head home?"

Skylar: "Okay but can you tell me what's bothering you? Is it our step dad?"

Y/N: "He is not a step dad to me."

Skylar: "Y/N we all haven't gotten over dad's death but you gotta at least give them a chance."

Y/N: "..."

Skylar: *Sigh* "Come on I brought my car."

Y/N: "Okay."

We start walking back down to her car.

The Devil: "What are you doing?"
