Ten Year Anniversary!
Okay, I have to do this. I can't help myself.
So basically today, July 6th, is the 10th anniversary of the popular manga, web-comic, and anime Hetalia! Above is a drawing of N. Italy, Germany, and Japan, drawn by the creator, Hidekaz Himaruya, to celebrate this awesome occasion.
Now, I love Hetalia. If you haven't gotten that from some of my previous chapters, I...I don't know why you haven't.
So for those of you who don't know what this wonderful series is, it's basically about countries and their history. Sounds boring, right? But here's the thing: the nations are personified into different people.
They act like your typical stereotypes of the country, like how America is a loud, hamburger-loving idiot, or how France is a big flirt, or how Italy loves pasta, or how Austria is so musical, or how China loves pandas... I think you get it.
Hima has made around sixty personified countries. And he's making more. The newest ones he's made are Czech Republic and Slovakia, who I really like. I'm still a little ticked off that he hasn't made the Philippines yet, though.
All of the characters are really likable, and really, it's almost impossible to not have a fictional...crush...on at least one of them... *pauses* Everyone obsesses over England and Russia, while I'm just here crushing on Norway and Romano... *sighs*
Anyways! So the manga, anime, and web-comic use these personified nations to retell history and fun facts to its audience in a way that is memorable and light-humored. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have its serious moments as well. Hetalia fans can never forget the infamous Revolutionary War between America and England, and the tragic separation of the only canon ship in the entire series. That was torture for everyone. *coughalsothedissolvingofPrussiabutwedon'tspeakofthatcough*
It's purposely meant to be offensive, which honestly just adds to the charm of the series. Each episode of the anime is only five minutes long, though, which is kind of disappointing. To really get a feel of the series, I suggest watching both sub and dub. Sub is more accurate, while dub has all of the accents and more offensive jokes. To be honest, I've been liking the sub just a tad more lately.
And now ten years have gone by, and everyone who's stuck with the series since then, I applaud them. I only got into the series around a year or two ago. I thank my best friend DamnDoggo for really recommending this series—AKA shoving it down my throat. I hope you use that keychain I gave you for your birthday.
So if you're interested, check it out. You might like it. Just...stay away from the fandom as much as you can. It can fuel the fires of the Underworld ten times fold.
Heck, thanks to Hetalia, I'm now an A+ student in Social Studies at school, and can list almost all of the countries in Europe, including their flags! But hey, if you don't like the series, there's also the character songs. They're all really good. Honestly, some of them are kind of better than the anime in my opinion, i.e. every Nordic song ever.
The series really doesn't have a set plot. It's an opportunity to just mess around and basically have fun with the characters. And that's really nice.
So, I raise my glass of Coca-Cola in the air, and wish for another ten years of craziness!
Thank you.
