Heathers
So I just watched a full bootleg of a full off-Broadway production of Heathers because I thought it was time I familiarized myself with it as it's so incredibly popular.
I liked it. But it's not my favorite so fair warning my opinions may be a bit unpopular! Which I apologize for in advance!
~~~~~~~
Favorite Character: Okay so I don't really like any of the characters but if I had to choose a favorite I'd say J.D, only because I really like his development. He is the most interesting character I think. Obviously he's not a good person but watching his thoughts unfold is sorta interesting.
Least Favorite Character: It's hard to choose between Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, or Ram and Kurt but I'd have to go with Ram and Kurt. They are just sooo annoying throughout the whole thing. Heather Duke is a really close second because she's so mean and obnoxious! At least the ghost of Heather Chandler is sorta funny which is the only reason why she doesn't top this list.
Favorite Song: There aren't a whole lot of songs that I really like but if I had to choose I'd say either "Seventeen" or "Meant to be Yours" or "I am Damaged" Although a lot of the reason might because I really liked the actor who played J.D in the bootleg that I watched. I also kind of like "Dead Girl Walking" but I don't like the lyrics just the melody.
Least Favorite Song: Again it's pretty close between a few. "Freeze Your Brain" or "Candy Store" or "Kindergarten Boyfriend" but none of them are worse than "Blue". The song itself is just annoying, as it's sung by the most annoying characters but the lyrics are just nothing! I understand that it's supposed to be humorous but I don't find it humorous so I just find it weird and annoying.
Plot/Message: So though I didn't really like the music of characters I did sorta enjoy the plot and more so the different important topics it touches on. Depression, suicide, dealing with loss, sexuality, acceptance, and love. With all of these elements I feel like a lot of people can resonate with it. Of course it's very exaggerated but I know I resonate with elements of it so I'm glad that it's so popular for that reason.
Why I didn't love it: I didn't like it because I didn't feel anything while watching it. I have a real lack of a sense of humor so I didn't really laugh but it didn't make me sad either. Technically I find the end sort of sad because of *spoiler* J.D dies and Veronica's last lament to him is sad but the way the story was told on stage didn't make me sad. I don't know if it was the way they were talking or acting but it just didn't allow me to feel anything. A lot of the musical is actually sad and deals with very real problems but I didn't laugh or cry while watching it. I didn't feel happy or sad or anything! I just kind of watched it... Obviously that's such a personal problem with it so I'm not saying it's a bad musical at all! These are just my preferences!
As always, these are just my opinions and are not meant to be offensive in anyway at all! I know a lot of people love this musical so I in no way made this chapter to be against anyone! I'd love to hear from those who does love this show!
