Favorites and Least Favorites: Phantom Edition

Welcome to a new segment I like to call, Favorites and Least Favorites. Here I will choose a musical and I will say actors I liked in the lead roles and actors I did not like in the lead roles. Some musicals I pick will not have enough actors for me to say favorited and least favorites so I will probably just say actors I liked. In this chapter I will talk about my favorite and least favorite Phantoms from The Phantom of the Opera! Let's begin!

~~~~~~~~
Let us start with the Phantoms that I like. This is really hard to not list like a million because I love a lot of Phantoms, but I'll make it work.
Ramin Karimloo: As you all know Ramin Karimloo is my all time favorite Phantom, and he always will be. His voice his phenomenal and his acting skills are even more phenomenal. I've seen clips of him when he was younger as well and each performance I see is different in some way and that's amazing. I love seeing that he grew but also that he didn't just keep the character the same every time. He has several different interpretations of the same character and it's really cool to see.
Hugh Panero: I loooovvveee Hugh' Panero's Phantom. His interpretation is so different. It's a bit more psychotic and mentally unstable than a lot of others. It's so fun to watch and although I feel his Final Lair lacks emotion, it's still really really good and different. I saw an interview with him and he said that he based his Phantom off of the Susan Kay book, which I find amazing and it's a pretty accurate. Also he's one of the only actors I've ever heard call the Phantom Erik. Which I appreciate! Also his voice is amazing!
Colm Wilkinson: I like Colm because his voice is so unique and the way he says certain phrases is actually heartbreaking. Again his voice is so different and special and I love it!
Michael Crawford: I actually really like Michael's voice. I like when Phantom's have high voices sometimes. It's still so pretty. Plus he's a great actor. His final lair is so amazing!
Peter Jöback: Peter is one of my favorite Phantom's ever! I absolutely adore his voice! As I said I love Phantom's with high voices and Peter is probably the reason why. Seriously I love him. I love him in the mirror scene and I really love his Music of the Night. It is so pretty! And his final lair is amazing! By the end he actually looks like he is physically in pain! It's amazing and heart shattering. I wish I could see him live someday!
Gary Mauer: I love Gary's final lair so much. He just sounds so broken. I love it. He's really a great actor. His voice is amazing too!
James Barbour: I know this one is unpopular. But what he did in his personal life doesn't make him untalented. His voice his tremendous! It's so commanding and attention grabbing. It's brilliant! Plus his acting is brilliant too! His final lair is so sad. But it's gorgeous. Seriously I hope I can get to Broadway to see him soon!
Thomas Borchert: Thomas played the Phantom in Germany, so first let me say that I love Phantom in German! I love the German language and it sounds so pretty! Thomas' voice is so gorgeous. I could listen to him sing all day. His final lair is amazing too! He's a fantastic actor and I really just love him! I love everything he's in too!
Ivan Ozhogin: Ivan played the Phantom in the Moscow production and he is fantastic. His voice his amazing! It's so gorgeous! I especially love his Point of No Return! And I love the little details he adds during the Final Lair! He's wonderful! Plus Phantom sounds gorgeous in Russian!
Gardar Thor Cortes: So I just discovered Gardar because I think he might be playing the Phantom in the Paris production (I'm pretty positive he is but if someone could clarify for me that would be great!) so since I am so excited for the Paris production I looked him up to see if he was any good and oh my gosh he is just astounding. His voice is just amazing I love it. He's such a great actor too! I love the sadness I hear in his voice it's amazing. Especially in his Till I Hear You Sing! I haven't enjoyed anyone else's' Till I Hear You Sing (other than Ramin's) until now! I love him and now I'm like 10000000000000000 times more excited for the Paris show!
Okay sorry that went on for awhile. I told you there were a lot. Now I'll say some Phantom's I'm not so fond of.
Gerard Butler: I'm sorry 2004 fans but I think you guys saw this one coming. I really do not like his voice. I really really don't. His acting is really good but that doesn't take away from his poor singing I'm sorry. And just the idea that he was told to be sexy is so awful. I understand it's not his fault but it's still in his performance and I don't like it at all.
Paul Stanley: For those of you who don't know, Paul Stanley is in the rock band KISS. So when I heard that he played the Phantom I was already skeptical because I don't think most heavy rock singers are all that good of singers so I was nervous. But his voice really isn't all that bad as the Phantom. It's his acting that makes me dislike him. It's not very good I don't think. A lot of times I feel that he sounds whiny and in the PONR scene when Christine rips off his mask, he gives the weakest "ahh" I've ever heard. I actually laughed for like 5 minutes after watching it. I'm sorry I know that's harsh but I really don't like him.
Earl Carpenter: I really want to like Earl Carpenter. I like his voice I think it's really interesting but sometimes his acting seems as if he's trying a bit too hard if that makes sense. I don't hate him but I don't love him either. It's somewhere in between because he's not bad all the time. There are a lot of times where he's good. But most of the time I think he's overwhelmingly average.
Laird Macintosh: I know a lot of people like him. And I've only seen one clip of him singing the title song but I just don't really like his voice. Not that it's bad like Gerard's, it's just I don't like it. I'm sure he's a good actor and maybe he's better and I just need to see more clips but I just didn't like him.
Steve Harley: Steve may possibly be my least favorite Phantom ever. I really do not like his voice. I've only ever heard an audio clip of him and Sarah Brightman singing the title song but seriously I don't like it. I can't really explain why I don't like it but I just really really really don't. I'm sorry I'm being really harsh but I seriously don't like him.
Well those are my favorite and least favorite Phantoms! I hope you enjoyed! I'm sorry if I picked one of your favorites as one of my least favorites but please remember this is just for fun and these are solely my opinions. They are not meant to be offensive in anyway and I'm sorry if they were!
Please comment your favorites and least favorites too!
