Evita
I can't believe I haven't done a chapter on Evita yet! I first listened to Evita as a result of watching a DVD of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday celebration. And I enjoyed it! I then saw a production of it at a performing arts schools near me and it was very good! I've then also seen a professional production of the show at a theatre oriented college near me as I've been volunteering there! It was an amazing production and the entire cast was amazing!
Note: My opinions on characters and other parts of the show are based solely on the show and not the real life people or the historic events!
~~~~~~~
Favorite Character: Che. I love Eva as well but there's something so fun about watching Che! He's charming and funny and even though he doesn't really do anything other than narrate and hate on Eva he's really a joy to watch. Also I like his songs the best which probably goes along into why he's my favorite character.
Least Favorite Character: I really don't have one. I really like all the characters. They're all really great.
Favorite Song: This is really hard. I really like so many! My main favorites are "High Flying Adored," "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You," "On a Night of a Thousand Stars," "A New Argentina" and of course "Don't Cry for Me Argentina.' However I really enjoy all of the songs!
Least Favorite Song: If I had to choose I'd say Santa Evita because even though it's quite pretty I'm not a huge fan of children singing. I know I'm horrible I'm sorry! However it's a really nice moment in the show.
Costumes: Other than Phantom, this show has the best costumes ever! Everything Eva wears throughout the show is beautiful! Specifically what she wears during Don't Cry For Me Argentina, its spectacular.
Patti Lupone vs Elaine Paige: In short terms both! I love both of them and I can't pick a favorite! Elaine Paige has the most gorgeous voice but Patti Lupone has such a powerful and strong voice too so it's hard not to love her. They sing the part differently but equally amazing!
Musical vs Movie: So I haven't seen the movie but I've listened to the soundtrack so this is based on the soundtrack of the movie vs the original Broadway cast. Overall I prefer the Broadway cast and I prefer Patti Lupone over Madonna. Madonna I don't think is that bad but her voice isn't strong enough for the role which I think left some of the songs being dulled down and not as exciting. I don't blame Madonna for that necessarily Evita is such a hard role but maybe they could have casted differently. That being said, I'm a huge fan of Antonio Banderas as Che but I love Mandy Patinkin as well!
Yeah so overall Evita is definitely in my top three favorite Andrew Lloyd Webber shows and one of my favorite shows overall! So if you haven't listened to it I highly, highly suggest it!
