A Merry Broadway Christmas (story)

So dreamy_daae requested that I do a musical crossover like forever ago!! And I've been thinking about how to do it for months and couldn't come up with anything. But then it hit me! What would happen if all of my favorite Broadway characters had to spend Christmas together? Well let's find out!

~~~~~~~
The Upland household was full of cheer and people. Christmas carols rang through the halls as everyone mingled happily.
Glinda was a mess running around trying to talk to everyone and make sure that they were happy. She invited almost everyone she knew.
Feeling overwhelmed she quickly made her way over to her best friend Elphaba and her boyfriend Fiyero.
She heaved a sigh as she approached them "Hey! Merry Christmas lovebirds!" She exclaimed in a sing song voice.
"Hey Glinda!" Elphie responded while embracing her friend in a warm hug. They continued to chat away happily together while eating some of the gorgeously decorated gingerbread cookies that Elphaba graciously made.
Soon Tracy Turnblad and her handsome boyfriend Link strolled up to them. Tracy was singing her favorite Christmas song, 'Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.' It wasn't long before Glinda and Elphaba joined in on her festive cheer.
Meanwhile, Cosette and Marius Pontmercy sat hand in hand by the fire. They both held mournful expressions on their young faces and seemed like the only ones not celebrating in the spirit of the holiday.
Christine Daae realized this quite quickly and headed over in their direction while pulling her lover Raoul along with her.
She sat down next to Cosette and embraced her in a gentle hug.
"You're missing your father aren't you?" Christine asked her sweetly.
Cosette nodded in confirmation. "This is the first Christmas I've had to spend without him in a long time," she explained while looking down at her hands. "He especially loved this time of year."
"I know. Your father was a good man and he would want to see you be happy," Christine comforted her by putting her hand on  Cosette's shoulder. "I miss my father this time of the year too. He always used to play Christmas carols on his violin..."
Cosette managed a smile, "Thank you Christine."
Christine shifted her focus towards Marius, "How are you doing sweetie?" She said with concern. She knew things had been tough for him as well.
"It's hard... Not having them here," he said clearly choking back tears. We'd usually go to the ABC Café and have a drink... or two... or three. And this year we would have been free..." A few tears started to trickle down his cheeks, which caused Cosette to break down as well.
She grabbed his hand and put her head on his shoulder as he placed his head on hers. His tears dripped into her golden hair, but she didn't care. It was nice to let their emotions flow free.
Christine noticed even Raoul sniffling a few tears away as well. She knew it had been hard for him after everything that had happened with Erik and his brother being killed. She grabbed his hand and gave him a sad smile. She was struggling too.
But she felt safe here; in Raoul's arms. Even though somewhere deep inside of her she feared that Erik would make an appearance, she focused on Raoul. He was all she could have wanted for Christmas.
Bonnie and Clyde sat bitterly at the table together. This really wasn't their holiday. They couldn't care less about the trees and the presents. It was all just nonsense to them. They could barely afford to give anything back anyway, so what was the point?
"Baby whatta say we get outta here," Bonnie suggested in a half sweet half bitter tone.
"Where da ya suppose we go?" Clyde said irritably. "At least we ain't gonna be arrested here."
Bonnie let out an angry sigh "Fine. We'll stay."
Soon Jack Kelly and his friend Davey strutted up to them laughing about something.
"Why da you all look so glum?" Davey asked still smiling. "It's Christmas!"
"Yeah well what's to great about it!" Clyde snapped.
"Yeah! It's not like people like us can even afford to have Christmas!" Jack piped up.
"Christmas isn't about money. It's about happiness and joy and spending time with your fami..ly..." His last words cut out after the realization that neither of these men had families to return home to.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"Nah don't worry about it," Jack said with a fakery smile while patting Dave on the back.
Clyde remained silent as his lips formed an ugly scowl. He missed his brother. But he had Bonnie and that was what really mattered.
Soon, Kathrine Plumber strutted up to them and gave Jack a kiss on the cheek.
"Merry Christmas everyone!" She grinned brightly. "Can I take some pictures?" She asked but she had already began snapping pictures of Bonnie and Clyde.
Cathy Hyatt and Jaime Wellerstein were standing in a corner arguing over one thing or another - like usual.
"You never think of me anymore! Everything is about you!" Cathy screamed at him.
"My career is important to me! But so are you! Cathy please!"
"No Jaime! This is just another party where everyone loves you and I'm still just following in your footsteps! I'm always in your shadow!"
"How is that my fault! Cathy, don't you remember all of the great Christmases we had together? Can't we go back to that?" Jaime's voice shifted to be soft and begging. He attempted to take Cathy's hands but she quickly pushed him away.
Without another word she turned away and went to mingle with Bonnie and Katherine.
Jaime remained standing where he was and let out a frustrated sigh. He ran his fingers through his once before combed hair and paced a bit in a circle.
He then put on a smile and went to talk to Marius and Raoul.
Shortly after Glinda made an announcement:
"Everyone gather around the Christmas tree and we'll exchange Secret Santa gifts!"
Everyone flocked around the tree and sat in a large circle.
"I'll go first!" Glinda said cheerfully! She looked down at the nicely wrapped box with her name on it. She delicately opened it to reveal a pair of sparkly pink earrings! In the box it read: To Glinda. From Marius.
She squealed in delight "Awe thank you Marius!" She quickly got up and gave him a kiss on the cheek which made his cheeks turn bright red.
"That means it's your turn!"
Marius quickly unwrapped the gift sitting in front of him. As soon as he saw it, a framed picture of him and his friends sitting in the chairs at the ABC Café, his eyes filled with newborn tears, but his faced gleamed with a smile. The bottom of the picture read Mes Amis and even before even reading it he knew who it was from.
"Thank you Katherine." He said with the most sincere smile.
"You're welcome," she returning the smile. "I guess I'm next!"
She quickly took the paper from the small bag in front of her to see a brand new leather notebook with a quill pen. She opened the book and noticed that the first page had writing on it already. It read:
"I know you love to write and you want to become a journalist. I think you'll be extremely successful as you're one of the most dedicated girls I know. Take this pen and book and write down all the experiences you can! Someday after your passing and after you become famous someone will find it and publish it! Capture YOUR memories here instead of writing about someone else's.
~Love Cosette."
Katherine immediately got up and gave her the biggest hug and thanked her.
Cosette then looked down at the neatly wrapped gift in front of her. She gingerly opened it to reveal a new bonnet from Bonnie.
"Thank you Bonnie! This is so pretty!"
"Thanks," she said happily. "My mom actually sewed it and gave it to me the last time that I saw her!"
Bonnie then opened her gift. The framed hand written lyrics of a song that Clyde had written for her. Obviously, it was from Clyde and the whole room burst into a clatter of awes and teasing.
Bonnie blushed before kissing Clyde gently on the cheek.
Clyde received a new hat from Raoul and Raoul received a new pair of shiny black shoes from Elphaba.
Elphaba opened her gift to reveal a sparkling red bracelet from none other than Jack Kelly.
"Thank you Jack! This is gorgeous!" She exclaimed while putting the bracelet on.
"No problem darlin," he said while flashing a smile her way.
He took the envelope in front of him and opened it gingerly. He nearly squealed like a girl when he saw two train tickets to Santa Fe inside. There also was a small piece of paper that said:
"Follow your dreams Jack. Love Christine."
"No way!" He yelled happily. "No way! Katherine we can go together! I cannot believe this! This is the best gift of all time! Thank you! Thank you!" There wasn't a happier sight in the world than Jack Kelly on that night.
Christine smiled widely at the thought of someone actually enjoying her gift. She was glad she put a smile on Jack's face.
Christine then opened the small nicely decorated bag in front of her. She revealed a gorgeous new pair of ballet slippers with a tag that said "From Tracy."
"I know that you usually have lead roles now but just in case you wanted to continue practicing ballet," Tracy explained her gift.
"Tracy I love them! Thank you," she smiled graciously.
Tracy then opened her gift to see new jazz shoes from Cathy.
"Awe! These are great! Thanks Cath!" Tracy exclaimed happily.
"Your welcome," Cathy replied while already opening the little box in front of her.
The inside of the box had a note on it.
"Be the Schmuel in my story."
And she immediately knew who it was from. She looked at the golden watch in front of her, but couldn't manage a smile.
"Thanks," she said coldly looking in no one's direction.
Jaime stayed silent, not wanting to reply. He opened his gift silently. He unwrapped a hard covered notebook which had the word Stories embroidered on the cover.
It was from Davey and he loved it. He just couldn't find the need to speak. He looked at Davey in acknowledgment and nodded in approval.
Awkwardly, Davey broke the silence.
"Umm okay. Well I guess it's my turn!"
He opened his bag to reveal another bag! It was a lovely leather shoulder bag.
"For carrying papers," Fiyero explained to him from across the circle.
"Thank you!" Davey said graciously.
Fiyero unwrapped his gift to reveal a small statue of a lion from Link.
"I heard you liked Lions." Link said monotonously.
"I do! Thank you!"
Link then unwrapped his gift to see a brand new red tie from Glinda.
He laughed. "Thanks darling! I'll wear it on the Corny Collins show!"
Glinda gleamed brightly! Their first Secret Santa was -for the most part- a success.
"Thank you all so much for coming and participating in our Secret Santa! You can stay and mingle or leave! It doesn't really matter," she giggled.
The circle immediately started to disperse with almost everyone chattering happily.
Jaime immediately took his gift, thanked Glinda for having the party and then left.
Cathy stayed however, paying no attention to him. She faked a happy smile and sang Christmas carols with Christine and Cosette.
Even Bonnie and Clyde began to have fun taking pictures with Katherine and taking pictures under the mistletoe.
Soon the roles were reversed and it was Jack and Katherine under the mistletoe, celebrating their vacation to Santa Fe.
Christine went over to the mantelpiece to marvel at the gorgeous flowers that were sitting on top. She picked up one of the roses to smell it and gasped when she saw a small black ribbon tied around the stem.
She quickly turned to Glinda and asked her where she had got it.
"I've never seen it before? Did anyone else bring it?" She responded nonchalantly.
Christine knew in her heart that nobody else had placed the rose there. A shiver went up her spine yet she also smiled a bit. She placed the rose back on the mantelpiece and went to dance with Raoul.
The rest of the evening was a potpourri of joy and dancing and singing and talking. Everyone had a smile on their face, whether it be real or not.
But there was no reason for fake smiles on that joyous night. Everyone infected each other with a pure Christmas spirit that couldn't be broken. It was the happiest night in town.
It truly was a Merry Broadway Christmas!
~~~~~~~
Merry Christmas Eve (to everyone who celebrates) But also happy Hanukah if anyone celebrates that!

This was a lot of fun to write and it's really not good but I hope you guys enjoyed it!!! I love the idea of all of these wonderful characters spending Christmas together!

Also sorry about the end since I stay pretty consistent with characters who die in their stories staying dead, but I had to add a little something from Erik here! Same with Bonnie and Clyde, I know they die but I had to have them here!

Thanks so much for reading! Merry Christmas!!!
