Hiding From Extraordinary S1 E1

INT. NEW YORK, NY - - FLASHBACK - - DAY
Police cars ZOOM in pursuit. They gain ground on the man.
Bullets hit the man's tires. They deflate, sending his car reeling, it WRAPS around a light pole.
The chase is over. Sandra ADAMS, 20s, gets out of the car, she repeats herself.
Sasha
Exit the vehicle and lay on the ground.
Traffic takes off, but the other cops hold the man in a standoff. His tires were deflated, and his car was wholly eradicated. Sandra repeats herself.
Sasha
Get on the floor now!
The man looks as though he's complying. He raises his hands in the air and drops to his knees.
Suddenly, the man reaches for his waist, pulling a revolver from his pants. Bullets fly from both sides, and Shadow fighter and her husband, DOMINIC ADAMS, tall, muscular, red irises, in his late 20s, come to the rescue, but he's too late. Sasha falls face-first. Dominic catches her before she can hit the ground. Sasha collapses to the floor, bullet wounds in her chest-the gunman's weapon jams. The bullet exchanges stop-blood leaks from the bad guy's shoulder and stomach.
He lays Sasha softly on the ground.
He SPEEDS towards the mans and grips his shirt in one motion.
Flames emerge from his fingertips as he lifts the man off the ground.
Shaking, the man drops his gun.
Dominic takes the man with him, slamming him on a nearby cop car, blood smearing on the vehicle's hood. The police chief watches him while taking Sandra's pulse.
Police chief
Dominic, STOP! She's gone.
Dominic releases the man from his herculean grip and shoves him forward angrily. He looks at his wife before taking off at superhuman speed.
TIME-LAPSE:
INT. SCHOOL - - FLASHBACK - - DAY
CHASE ADAMS, 10, with jet black hair and red eyes, disguised with Hazel contacts, pats his page with his pencil. His twin sister ADDISON ADAMS, 10, with blonde hair, crimson eyes, and blue contacts, sits beside him. They both work on a test.
DAVID ADAMS, 12, with blonde hair and red eyes, wearing blue contacts, blonde hair, appears in the doorway with NICHOLAS ADAMS, 7, bleach blonde hair just like his father and red eyes, wearing blue contacts.
Chase looks over at Addison, and they both bolt out the door with their bags. Their dad sprints around the corner, looking exhausted.
Dominic
Let's go.
I/E. car - parking lot - day

David sits in the passenger seat next to his father, and Addison and Chase sit on opposite sides of Nick in the back.
Dominic hunches over the steering wheel. Chase reaches out to put a supporting hand on his father's shoulder, but Addison beats him.
Addison
Dad, what's wrong?
All of the kids anticipate their father's answer, fearing the worst. Dominic sinks deeper into the driver's seat.
Dominic
Your mother-She's dead. A very terrible man killed her this morning...
Dominic trails off, trying to distract himself as he digs his hands more in-depth into the steering wheel. All four children sit frozen, staring at their dad, hoping it is all a joke. Addison and Chase fall into Nick, holding onto him.
EXT. FUNERAL - - FLASHBACK - - DAY
Many police officers stand by. Gunshots blare in the distance from a line of cops saying their final goodbye, and the funeral dismisses.
Addison cries, tearing her way to her mother's casket as Sasha's body is lowered into a deep grave. David holds his sister, ripping her from the coffin. Many cops sympathize with the family as they all say their final goodbyes.
EXT. SKIAX, CA NEIGHBORHOOD - - FLASHBACK - - FOUR MONTH LATER - - DAY
Thick boots pull above a pair of ankles, and we work up above the shoes, revealing a black matte super-suit with an orange fireball in the middle of Dominic's chest and a black leather biker jacket with a hoodie. We reach a mask covering only his eyes and a hood concealing his features. Palm trees sway in the distance as Dominic takes off into the California morning air.
In the new town of Bakersfield, California, Dominic finally decides to put back on his super-suit and become the city superhero.
Close up on his shoes, Dominic takes off, running towards a blazing fire in the distance.
INT. SCHOOL - DAY
MR. SANDOVAL, late 30s, good-looking, discusses Shadow Fighter and his unusual red eyes. Somewhere during his talk, Chase, now 16, manages to shut his eyes and falls asleep on top of his desk.
His eyes flutter open when he feels a tap on his shoulder, and he wipes saliva from his lips, pulling off his hoodie.
Mr. Sandoval
Welcome back, Mr. Adams.
Mr. Sandoval leans against Chase's Desk. Chase lifts his head and looks up at his teacher.
Mr. Sandoval
This is unusual behavior, especially for you.
Chase nods, staring at the board, feeling his head swirl. He knows that is the truth.
Mr. Sandoval watches Chase straighten his notes on his desk and sighs.
Mr. Sandoval
I'm placing you with our new student, Ms. Williams. She's three tables behind you, in the back.
Chase looks behind him, staring at Addison, who sits next to LANDON JACKSON, 16, the hottie. Addison winks at Chase, and he lifts from his seat, throwing his notebooks and books in his bag, and shuffles off towards the back row.
Chase throws his backpack on the table before himself and sits on the stool next to ALLISON WILLIAMS, the beautiful new girl. The girl's eyes pan towards Chase, and he digs into his bag for a pen. She instead passes him one from her collection.
Mr. Sandoval continues his lecture on eye genetics. Chase grunts, taking the pen from the girl. His eyes fall on hers.
Allison
The girl in front of us stole your pens.
Allison points to Addison two rows before him, casually drooling over Landon.
Chase chuckles briefly, clutching the pen as he stares at his sister.
Chase
(Mumbling)
Of course, she did-
(Whispering to Allison)
She's my twin.
Allison chuckles softly.
Allison
I thought I saw the resemblance. I'm Allison, by the way, but you can also call me Allie.
Chase gazes at his paper, tapping his pen and occasionally looking at the board to write stuff down. Allison watches Chase. Suddenly the bell rings. Chase looks over to return the pencil.
Chase
Uh-do you want your pen back?
Allison gathers her stuff from the desk. Her eyes lit up. Chase holds out the pen for Allison.
Allison
You can keep it.
Allison smiles at him and zips her bag.
Chase
I'm Chase, by the way-
Chase puts out his hand, but Allison already walks away. Before leaving the classroom, she lays a paper slip on Mr. Sandoval's desk. Chase blows eager air from his lungs.
Chase
Or not?
Chase gathers his things and walks off.
EXT. PE FIELD - DAY
COACH HAYES, tall, thick-muscled, blue eyes, the late '30s, and male, scans the bench before him where his PE class and the entire baseball team sit on opposite sides. David, the star baseball player to the far right, glances over at his brother Chase, who sits alone on the far right of the bench with his headphones in his ears, avoiding eye contact with his brother.
Hayes
You've probably heard we have tryouts tomorrow. The rest of my team has kindly volunteered today to help us with practice.
Coach Hayes's eyes land on Chase. He snaps in Chase's face, and Chase looks up at the coach, removing his headphones from his ear. Loud alternative pop music blares from the earpiece.
Hayes
Is everything okay, Adam?
Chase's eyes widen in surprise. All eyes shift to him. Chase looks at his grinning brother and back to the coach.
Chase
Uh-Yeah, everything is...
Chase gazes at his brother again.
Chase
Perfect.
Hayes
Good, you're up first. Grab a bat. It's time for a bit of batting practice.
Chase rolls his eyes, stuffing his headphones and cell phone in his pocket, grabs David's bat sitting against the fence, and walks up to the plate.
David and his teammates swiftly approach the field; David crouches behind his brother with a mitt and catcher's gear, punching his brother's calf from behind the batter's box. Chase turns to face him.
David
Hit the ball.
Chase rolls his eyes again and turns to face Mason Gray, a tough senior, tall and broad.
Chase adjusts his hold on the wooden bat, feeling the wood creak under his strength. Mason licks his fingertips and pulls back the ball. Chase's attention briefly shifts to Allison, handing the coach a slip of paper before taking a seat on the bench.
The bat slips down in Chase's fingers as his palms sweat. David taps his brother's leg again, and Chase looks back at him.
David
Calm down.
Chase sucks in a sharp breath.
Mason pulls his hand back again, letting go of the ball as it hurtles toward the batter's box. Chase swings the bat forward on instinct, and the ball collides with the bat. Everyone watches the ball disappear into the woods behind the school, and David stands up, ripping off his mask, and throwing his hand over Chase's shoulder.
Chase
Shit.
David
(Mutters to Chase)
We're talking to Dad tonight about your powers.
David punches his brother's bicep. Coach Hayes walks over, slamming his clipboard on the floor before Chase.
Hayes
What the hell was that, Adams?
Chase's eyes light up, and he looks at David, who seems to have the same expression.
Hayes
That was freaking awesome!
Chase nods awkwardly and drops the bat to the ground. David pats his brother on the shoulder and shoves him forward.
David
Chase wants to know if he has to try out for the team, or coach.
Coach Hayes grins like a boy on Christmas day.
Hayes
Of course, he does. I want to see that again.
INT. CAFETERIA - DAY
Chase sits alone at a table, dipping multiple fries in ketchup, but doesn't eat any of them. Allison slams her tray on the table before him, startling him, but his muscles relax as she sits across from him.
Allison
You OK?
She smiles at him. He doesn't know whether to tell her to leave or stay, so instead, he frowns.
Allison
Can I sit with you?
Chase stares at the apple on his tray.
Chase
Sure.
Allison
I saw you on the baseball field earlier. Was that your brother behind you?
Chase lifts his fork and takes a bite of chicken before answering.
Chase
Yeah, David?
Allison
Are you going to try it out tomorrow?
She takes a sip of her fountain drink. Chase could care less.
Chase
Doubt it. David and I wouldn't get along very well as teammates. We can barely get ahead at home.
Chase takes a bite of his fries. Allison smiles again, being as sincere as possible.
Allison
Maybe this is an opportunity for you two to work together.
Chase shakes his head no.
Chase
I don't care to get along with him.
Chase takes a sip of water.
Allison
What's so bad about your brother?
Chase huffs, lifting from the table and taking his bag and tray.
Chase
Trust me. You wouldn't understand.
Chase walks off. She walks with him. He gestures towards the trashcan, and she dumps her tray. Chase leaves his tray after her and walks off. Allison trails behind.
Allison
Try me.
Chase grunts, turning to look into her eyes when their noses bump as she stares into his eyes, studying them. He backs off, worried she would see the red beneath his Hazel contacts trips over a backpack lying on the floor, and smacks his head against a wall, collapsing against the polished floor.
Allison leans to help him, but he pulls himself to my feet and dusts debris from his shirt.
Allison
Are you okay?
Chase
Yeah, I'll be fine.
Allison
I'm sorry I didn't mean for that to happen.
He sucks in a sharp breath and sighs. They're face to face again.
Chase
I didn't mean to be such a dick.
Chase looks into her eyes, melting into her beautiful smile; their chemistry is red hot.
Chase
I have to get to class.
He turns and walks off.
Allison
See you around, Chase.
She meanders the opposite way, getting lost in the crowd as the warning bell rings, waving at him as he gets further and further from her.
INT. DINING ROOM - DAY
Dominic, still dressed as Shadow Fighter, addresses his four teenagers sitting at the table with the pizza and Salad he brought home after a long day at work still dressed as Shadow fighter, Dominic. David glares at Chase from across the room. The tension is srong between the two of them. Dominic clears the silence.
Dominic
(to Chase)
From what David tells me, you might finally grow into your special powers.
Chase looks down at his plate, averting his eyes from his four family members staring at him.
Chase
(Mumbling)
Maybe.
Chase plays with his fork on the table and trails off.
Dominic
Should I be concerned?
Chase
What if I want to be expected for once?
David
(provocative)
What is so bad about having powers? You're never going to be expected, Chase. Just accept it.
Chase curls his fists around his metal utensils as he glares at his brother-the forks mold to his fingers like butter.
Chase
Shut up, David.
David crushes his utensils in his palm. Their father watches both of them.
Dominic
Both of you, stop it-
(Looks at David)
Leave Chase alone.
(looks at Chase)
And you-What are you going to do when you end up getting your special powers? Do you think I liked what they did to me? Do you think I wanted this for you guys?
Both boys look at their father. There's a brief silence, then-
Chase
I think I want to try out for the baseball team.
Four pairs of crimson eyes land on Chase again.
David
What?
David grins.
Dominic
I thought you hated baseball.
Chase
I changed my mind.
Dominic stares at his son under his dark mask covering his deep red eyes. In the background, Addison smiles.
Addison
Oh my god. It's because of that girl, Allison.
Addison emphasizes Allison's name. Nick and David grin wide.
Nicholas
Chase has a crush.
Chase
I do not.
Addison
Oh, come on. You were practically swooning over her in Anatomy.
Chase
How would you know? You were too busy drooling over Landon.
Addison
I do not drool.
Nicholas and David chuckle in the background. Dominic sits back, watching his kids.
David
Wait! Was that the girl you stared at before you made that huge home run?
Dominic raises an eyebrow from under his mask.
David
(Looking at Dominic)
Oh, yeah. I forgot to tell you, Dad. He used his powers at school.
Dominic looks at Chase.
Chase
I didn't mean it. (to David) You do it too. I've seen you.
David
So I'll see you at tryouts, Chase?
Davids's eyebrows rise now. A moment of silence passes before Chase pushes his plate forward.
Chase
I'm not hungry anymore.
Chase pulls from his seat, and his family watches him walk to his room.
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Chase sits against the headboard of his bed, reading something on his phone. Dominic, wearing jogging pants, a regular white t-shirt, and blue contacts, appears in the doorway, knocking on the door while peering in.
Dominic
Hey, bud. Are you okay?
Chase looks over at his father and peels headphones from his ears. Loud alternative rock and EDM-type music play in the distance.
Chase
Why wouldn't I be?
Dominic
I don't know. You seem a bit moody to me.
Chase frowns.
Chase
What's the problem with that?
Dominic shifts his posture, crossing his arms over his chest.
Dominic
You're not doing any drugs-right-
Chase
(raising his voice)
Dad!
Dominic raises his arms to surrender.
Dominic
Okay, just checking-I'm going for a jog if you want to join me.
Chase rolls his eyes and pulls off his sheets.
Chase
I'll come with you, I guess.
Chase lifts out of bed.
Chase
Please don't change into your suit, Dad.
Dominic uncrosses his arms.
Dominic
I promise I won't.
Chase
Famous last words.
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - DAY
Dominic and Chase jog down the neighborhood, uncovered in dark hoodies and jogging pants from the cold weather.
Chase
Do you think I'm getting my unique superpowers?
Dominic
You could be? Although you kids are the first generation, I've never dealt with having powers.? (Beat) Think of it as hitting puberty twice.
Chase rolls his eyes.
Chase
Thanks, Dad.
The smell of smoke and falling ash is seen from a few houses down. An abandoned house, prepped for remodeling, burns with blazing flames as firefighters hose the home. Dominic and Chase rush over as the scene unfolds. Half the family has caved in, and etched on the window is a note for shadow fighter reading: "We know who you are, SF."
Dominic and Chase stare at what's left of the burning home. Firefighters talk with one another while hosing the remainder of the flames. Firefighter #1 is upset about the situation.
Firefighter #1
Where the hell is Shadow Fighter? He should be doing this. Not us?
Dominic
(To Chase)
Go home, Chase.
Chase
Seriously, dad?
Dominic
Go home... Now.
Chase turns around, throws on his hoodie, and jogs toward his home. Dominic stares up and down at the fiery mess.
