From the author: I'll admit that Letters To Harry was a difficult book to write. It was my first actual HP fanfiction, and I ended up stumbling through a lot of it (and found myself looking back through my old copies of the books more than once). But I think it came out decent enough in the end.
Writing about Declan was a little different than it was with my other main OCs, because he isn't officially introduced until about halfway through the story. For three of Harry's school years, he was just the mysterious D.M., whom Harry wrote back and forth with.
Declan had a lot of insecurities in the beginning. He was a Hufflepuff in a family of Slytherins, and always felt different from everyone else, at home and at school. He was afraid to reveal the truth about himself to Harry, fearing Harry wouldn't trust him if he knew he was a Malfoy. But Declan began to grow more brave and confident as he got older, and Harry hardly even recognized him when they saw each other again at the end of the war.
Declan is mentioned in Starting Over, and makes an appearance in the last chapter before the epilogue, when he says that he and Harry plan to get married at some point in the near future.
