"He told me the truth about you, who you really are. You can't play games with me anymore."

"I wasn't just pretending to be afraid of the opera ghost. He's real, and he's here. He came back."

From the author: His New Muse is my second story set in the world of POTO and LND. What 'His New Muse' does have in common with 'Phantom's Journey' is that they're both set after LND, but while 'Phantom's Journey' literally started the next day, I set 'His New Muse' a few years later.

I don't like to pick favorites among my characters, but I think Carwyn is honestly one of my favorites. There's just something about him I love, and he's the kind of person I'd want to be friends with.

To be completely honest, I did try to make Carwyn a little bit like a male version of Christine Daae, and that was why Erik (the Phantom) became drawn to him at first. But Carwyn is his own person, and hopefully Erik came to realize that.

One thing about Carwyn I don't think I ever went too far into in the story was his having to deal with his sexuality. The time was 1909, a time when homosexuality was still not accepted. He had to keep a big part of himself secret, meaning he had to keep his romance with Jacques Duval a secret. If anyone found out, they both would have been arrested.

Carwyn and Jacques did eventually escape to a retirement in the countryside together, but it still wasn't easy for them. But they stayed together, out of their love for each other, and I honestly wish Carwyn could have lived long enough to see it becoming more widely accepted today. I think it would have made him happy.
