Random play tips on my main. (wtf?)
1. Use your guns as an annoyance, not a force.
As you have a wide range gun, do not focus on getting headshots (as it will occur anyways), but instead pepper spray any opponents from the enemy team that you get to see (from a distance and at close range). This will stop them from self-regeneration, which could be a useful tool for you and your teammates.
2. Use the Boop damage to YOUR advantage.
At the season 11 Patch, (if you have seen), D.Va has been buffed with a wider gun range, (perfect for tip N°1) and an increase in the thrusters boop damage, which augmented from 25 to 35.
You can also make easy environmental kills with the Boop. Slightly dangerous (in general) but the danger increases in front of a Roadhog (as he can hook you to your death with him) and any Tank (the original Tank knockback decrease) and Sombra (with her Translocator), yet worth the try.
3. Push on lone opponents, never on a whole team.
If you're alone, or with your whole team right behind you, supporting you, never play offensive first (even if you were the one to defend) or push too hard on the enemy team. Instead, play defensive and search for peeking enemies. A Genji is dashing towards you? Make him regret. A Tracer, Symmetra, or Mei are being annoying to you? Make them use all their abilities, then pursue them. A Sombra hacked you? Try to matrix as soon as you can any of her abilities. If she fails her Translocator, pursue her, unless a Tank comes flying to the rescue.
3.5. Annoying Hero Tips.
As Mei lacks mobility (and can give a lack of it too), the best thing is to stay in an open space for when she randomly walls. Fly up or to the sides to catch her. Never use your rockets against her wall, unless your team is trying to chase her or until both her abilities are on cooldown
Symmetra's beam gun can cause damage (a lot of it), and you can't matrix it. Luckily, there is an easy way to not get rolled. Playing Symmetra requires steady aim, and with mech, the easiest way to confuse the Symmetra player is to use your thrusters for boop damage, and fly in squiggly lines. Without mech, your best chance is to straif as much as possible. Destroy her sentries as soon as you see them, and stay far from them.
Tracer (the second thing more annoying than a bloody mosquito or a boomer) does a lot of damage (in close range), and can runaway in a *blink* of an eye. The best thing is to matrix most of her bullets (her pulse bomb too), and wait (in fake ignorance) that she uses her three blinks and recall. Each blink has a five seconds cooldown, the recall long of 15.
For her ult (which can be fatal if positioned perfectly), the only thing you'll need to track is her position. Is she in her team's backline? Pushing through the front line? Blinking closer and closer to you? Creeping towards your team? Or is she just running around, too scared to show up? In anyways, the general thing to say is.
If she is in front of you, shoot. If she runs away, do not follow her until she comes back.
As for Tanks, my (current) only three advices are:
1• Never go on a 1v1, against any Tanks.
2• Keep track of their ult, give them free ult charge to be assured.
3• Only push a Tank if he is fully (or partially) on cooldown, and all alone.
4. Keep a careful eye on your health.
For D.Va, you have *two* chances of carrying your game.
The first, with her mech,
The second, the state everyone calls "Baby D.Va".
At the last Patch (naming it the Tank Buff Patch, TBP), every Tank (every *single* one) got buffed up, abilities, health, etc.
Quite a nice (yet dumb) move for all Tank Players! Thanks Blizz.
Anyways, Tokki (D.Va's mech) has been buffed to have exactly 725-745 Hps In Unranked and Competitive (Other game modes vary, going from 500 to 725.).
You might be thinking,
*Oh wow! D.Va has so much Health! Why are there so many, visibly useless tips?*
Oh no, no, dear. As mentioned above, at the TBP, every Tank got buffed, equalling in extra (really *extra*) damage. One perfect shot, and you find yourself back at spawn already.
Supports are here to heal and help you, of course, yet that doesn't mean you should be pushing immediately after recovering from an almost impending death. (For the sanity of the support players and your own.)
If you are about to lose your mech or die, try to fall back to your team as quickly as possible. Either that, or it is a confirmed roll. Keep your thrusters, use them only to move and boop (spinning around or upwards if you have high sensitivity), and most importantly, to run away.
If you end up losing your mech, then here you are. A little baby D.Va with only a light gun to defend yourself. You have no abilities other than your ult (which recharges quickly, thank goodness).
But if *you are good* with light guns and that your team is coming for back up, you have a chance of 79% to Re-Mech.
Though it takes skill and calm (the first reaction to losing your mech is panic) to load up that ult circle, D.Va's gun does a surprisingly big amount of damage. Fall back, try to Re-Mech as early as possible (searching for Squish Kills is not advised for newbies), and push again. (Usable for Hybrid, Point, Payload, etc.)
5. Baiting for a Squish Kill/Free Rez
Imagine this situation.
You are alone with a Mercy, searching for *someone* (or *something*) to shoot so that you can Re-Mech. No-one. Not even that one daring Genji player. You just sit, waiting for your ult to charge, while the enemy team captures the point.
In this situation, there are two ways of keeping the enemy team busy, *off* the point, until your team comes back.
The first and easiest way is simply to peek out and get killed, letting the Mercy rezz you for a quick ult. You'll have to make sure she has her ability though, and you'll also need to make sure she won't need to use it any soon (the cooldown being of 30 seconds).
The second, though, is way harder. (Again, not advisable for newbies.)
Baiting a Damage or Support hero into coming towards you. If they see you and immediately start after you, they are confident that they're going to get you. Instead, you pull out an Uno Reverse and kill *them* instead. If they see you, try to shoot you from where they are, and yet aren't taking the bait, the last resort is to either wait for your Mech, or use the first technique.
This technique can also be used after a self-destruct bomb, mostly to search for a Squish Kill, to which we will talk about later.
6. Use the Matrix wisely.
D.Va's most OP ability has always been her Defense Matrix. Destroying bullets into tiny dots on your screen, or matrixing a whole black hole away into nothingness. It all comes to the same at the end. (Other than one or two abilities... In general, beams, turrets' beams and Sigma's rock.)
Almost.
Almost comes to the same at the end.
The cooldown after the Matrix is off is only one second, yet it needs time to recharge. Don't use it to the first bullet you see or in front of beams, but preferably at abilities, like Reinhardt's Fire Charge, Moira's Orb (Damage or Healing), and mostly when *you* get showered in bullets.
6.5. Matrix Heals whenever you can.
This is a simple, yet unused (and unthought of) trick. Of course, most of the supports' heals are not matrixable, but some of them (Kiriko, Baptiste, Ana, etc.) are easy to target.
7. Know how to use your thrusters.
For yet another time, imagine this situation.
You're in an Unranked/Competitive game, and you pick D.Va. The door opens, and your first move is to use your thrusters. Two seconds later, and you're still near spawn, slowly walking your way to the point until the cooldown gets off.
Well, instead of going forward in a *straight line*, why not look slightly upwards, passing above obstacles that might slow you down?
If someone in your team has taken Lúcio, keep following them, as their speed boost will help you.
If you are surrounded by the enemy team, or against one opponent and that you're low health, the best thing is either to fly to one of the closest health packs on the map, or fall back to your team. In both ways, fall back when you are low health will save you the loss of your mech. (Which, once again, can be fatal. One perfectly placed shot, and you are back at spectating your teammates.)
If you see that the enemy team has a Lúcio, Wrecking Ball, enemy D.Va, Zenyatta or Brigitte, keep an eye to the maps you get to play in, and to the edges of the map itself. (Lijiang Tower, Ilios, etc.). Be careful and keep your thrusters for when it might happen, because being booped can cause your team's loss.
And if you *do* get booped, you can always fly back up.
7.5. Make spam jump a half-habit on D.Va.
One of the ways to arrive faster anywhere on the map is by spam-jumping. (While using your thrusters, of course.)
Other guides say you shouldn't spam-jump, and I do not disagree. It does make your shooting trajectory predictable, but on D.Va, it *is* a fundamental thing to do. Wide range guns will shoot where you are looking, and it is predictable, that you jump or not. Her head hitbox isn't the largest (at least, compared to Orisa's), though she has a very broad form inside her mech.
8. Watch out from being pinned/stunned/flashbanged/hooked
Reinhardt, Roadhog, Cassidy, Doomfist, Ana and Brigitte are all heroes who can stunt/pin/sleep/hook you in the middle of something.
Are you re-meching? Here comes a Doomfist punch! Are you above emptiness? A flash bang from Cassidy and you find yourself falling to your death, without anyone able to help (Other than Lifeweaver. His Life Grip can save you from dangerous boops, hooks, and falls.)
For Reinhardt, if you see him charging towards *you*, fly *upwards*, as he can still grab you if you go sideways.
If you see him charging towards a *teammate*, either boop him off (it does need skill and calculations) his trajectory, or just go in his way and get pinned instead.
For Roadhog, stay distant from him until he hooks (and misses) you.
If a Roadhog hooks one of your teammates, track them and Matrix the Roadhog's bullets.
Cassidy, for instance, is way more easy to play against. Alone or with a teammate, he can get scrambled like an egg, before getting folded like an omelette. His flashbang can easily get Matrixed.
Ana's sleep dart can be Matrixed, though you will need to keep track of her cooldown.
9. Try to keep on high ground most of the time.
Take up a high spot to pressure down the enemy team, making them focused on two points of view. Pepper spray them, check their health bars and lock down as soon as you find yourself a low health opponent, making it an easy kill.
10. Learn how to bomb.
The most used bomb technique used in Overwatch (1 & 2) is the Upper Flight Bomb.
It needs a lot of practice to get kills, but practice makes perfect.
Yet, if you are in a hurry (and don't want to seem like a literal newbie), I advice to use a technique i discovered.
The Diagonal Flight Bomb.
Its name tells a lot already. Instead of flying upwards, fly diagonally towards the enemy team.
If it's an open space (with only one to three walls), do use the UPB.
Yet again, it is advised to use the DFB. The best way to fall back into your team's backline and throw your nuke (pressing Q right after your Shift.) at the unfocused enemy team.
It'll either disperse them, (which will make an opening for your team), or kill them.
Another thing.
Never, *NEVER* fly into an enemy team to bomb. It has a 78% chance to fail and get you killed. And say that you are still alive. It'll just make you an easier target.
Thrusting into the enemy team makes them aware of your position, and if you try to nuke them, they'll be thrice more focused on ending you and hiding than if the bomb fell on them.
All of this needs swift and careful calculations.
The way you look at can be fatal. Either for you or the enemy team.
Height and distance are fundamental things to know how to calculate.
D.Va's thrusters last 2 seconds. Calculate the distance it (the mech) travels in that lapse of time.
Height, instead, is easier to calculate, since Overwatch has (and always had) physics, the weight of D.Va's mech is (predictably) heavy. She falls slightly faster than all other damage and support heroes.
Again, calculate the time it takes to fall down on an even floor from different high grounds.
Now, my last tip is,
Practise. Practise against A.I controlled teams, and you'll see that you'll get the hang of it quicker than you thought.
11. D.Va's counters:
1• Reinhardt
You get pinned, you get killed.
2• Zarya
Her grab can be fatal, and she does a lot of damage. (Without being able to Matrix it). Her bubbles are annoying to shoot at.
3• Reaper
Does plenty of damage. Can jumpscare you and your team with an unaliving blossom.
4• JunkRat
Does a pretty big lot of damage. Can be annoying. Jumps around. Can easily get rolled.
5• Mei
Can slow you down, does a lot of damage. It is annoying when she walls/ice blocks.
6• Genji
Is in general annoying to shoot at when the player is deflecting. Although is easy to roll.
7• Cassidy
Does (did) a lot of damage. (The poor character got nerfed.) Flashbang is annoying, can get easy scrambled.
8• Symmetra
Does a lot of damage and is hard to shoot.
9• Tracer
Annoying blinking bi***
Second most annoying thing after a mosquito/boomer
10• Sombra
Goodbye abilities, Hello Sombra!
You hear Spanish, she had to vanish.
First most annoying thing after a mosquito/boomer
11• Pharah.
Does (did) a lot of damage, flies around annoyingly lowering your health at a surprisingly quick rate.
Hope this was (in any kind of way) useful.
Love, D.Jae. Git Gut, y'all.
(May or may not be updated/chaged. My lazy ass doesn't wanna do shit while tired. ^v^)
Sorry if this was random/you don't get a single shit out of this!
Just wanted to share some shit I thought of a while past. ;D
