🦕Ep.2: Legend Of Gobblewonker🦕
~~~~~~~~~Dipper's POV~~~~~~~~~
It had been a few days since that incident with the gnome monster, and both Mabel and I continued to hang out with (y/n) more often. We had woken up a bit late today, and were now at the kitchen table eating breakfast.
"Are you ready for the ultimate challenge?!?" My sister asked as she held up a syrup bottle.
I held up another, smiling determinedly. "I'm always ready!!!"
"Then you know what this means!!!"
"Syrup race!!!" We said in synch before opening the syrup bottles and pointing then to our mouths as we waited for the syrup.
"Go Sir Syrup!!!"
"Go Mounty Man!!!"
"Almost... almost..." She slightly hit the bottom of the bottle which caused bit of syrup to land on her mouth. "Yes!!! I won!!!" She coughed at the action, and I rolled my eyes before grabbing the nearby newspaper.
"Hoho, no way! Hey, check this out!"
Mabel peeked over. "Human sized hamster ball?!? I'm human-sized!!!"
"No no, Mabel, this. We see weirder stuff than that everyday!" I said as I pointed at the paper. "We didn't get any pictures of those gnomes, did we?"
"Nope, just memories!!! And this beard hair!!!" She said as she pulled out a few locks of gray hair.
"Why did you save that...?" She shrugged in response to my question.
Stan soon walked in. "Good morning, knuckleheads! You guys know what day it is?!?"
"Um, happy anniversary?"
"Mazel tov!!!"
He hit my head with a newspaper. Why me?!? "It's Family Fun Day, genius!!!" He opens the fridge, looking around. "We're cutting off work to do one of those bonding type deals."
"Grunkle Stan, is this gonna be like our last family bonding day?" I asked as I remembered us coloring small pieces of paper in green.
Mabel shivered at the thought. "The county jail was so cold..."
He then walked over to us, placing a hand on our shoulders. "Alright, maybe I haven't been the best summer caretaker, but I swear today we're gonna have some real family fun! Now who wants to put on some blindfolds and get into my car?!?"
"Yay!!!!!"
"Wait what?"
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
And so Stan forced us to get in his car (WITH BLINDFOLDS). Mabel kept touching everything around her saying her 'other senses had enlightened'. The ride was quiet and bumpy, and we crashed when we got to our destination.
But we were fine!
Sort of.
"Okay okay, open them up!" Mabel and I did as told. I blinked a few times, adjusting to the sudden brightness, finding ourselves at the lake.
"Ta-da!!! It's fishing seasons!!!"
"Fishing?" Mabel said as she raised an eyebrow.
"What are you playing at, old man?" This was beyond suspicious.
Stan smiled brightly. "You're gonna love it, the whole town's out here!" We all looked around to see other families all around the lake. "That's some quality family bonding time!!!"
"Grunkle Stan, why do you wanna 'bond' with us all of a sudden?" I asked, adjusting my cap.
"C'mon, this is gonna be great!!! I've never had fishing buddies before! The guys from the lodge won't go with me. They don't "like" or "trust" me. So what do you say?!?"
Mabel looked at me with a bit of concern. "I think he actually wants to fish with us!"
"Hey, I know what'll cheer you sad sacks up." He pulled out two fishing hats with the names Dippy in one and Mabel in the other, soon placing them on our heads. "Pow! Pines family fishing hats!!!"
Mabel and I took them off to look at them, both cringing a bit. "That's... that's hand stitching, you know. It's just gonna be you three, me, and those goofy hats on a boat for ten hours!!!"
"Ten hours?!?"
"I brought the joke book~!!!" He said as he pulled it out, making us look in horror.
"No, no!!!"
"There has to be a way out of this!!!" Mabel said as she looked at me.
"I'd seen it!!! I'd seen it again!!!" We both all turned to see an old man running through the whole place, pushing and hitting anything in his way. "The Gravity Falls Gobblewonker!!! Come quick before it scrabdoodles away!!!"
"Aww, he's doing a happy jig!!!" Mabel said as she saw his weird dance.
He looked out way. Maybe? Both his eyes face opposite direction. "Nooo!!! It's a jig of grave danger!"
That's when one of the workers walked over holding a spray bottle. "Hey, hey!!! Now what have I told you about scaring my costumers?!? This is your last warning, dad!!!"
"But I got proof this time back company!!!" He pleaded as he got sprayed by the worker, soon leading everyone to a broken boat. "Behold!!! It's the Gobbleywonker who done did it!!!"
Mabel and I exchanged a curious glance as the man's confession, and listened as he continued to explain. "It had a long neck like a gee-raffe!!! And wrinkly skin like uh... like this gentleman right here!!!" He said as he pointed at Stan who didn't even notice.
"It shot my boat up into smither-runes and ship-shaped over to Scuttlebutt Island!!! You gotta believe me!!!"
Blubs, the police sheriff, soon spoke up. "Attention all units, we've got ourselves a crazy old man."
Everyone laughed at his comment, the old man walking off as he muttered weird fragments in defeat.
"Well, that happened." Stan said before getting into his boat. "Now let's untie this boat and get out on that lake!"
I turned to face my sister. "Mabel, did you hear what the old dude said?!?"
"Oh donkey spittle."
"No, the other thing! About the monster!"
"You mean the Gobblewonker?" I heard a new voice say, turning around to see a familiar face walking over.
"(y/n)!!!" Mabel ran over, hugging her who chuckled a bit before pulling away.
"Hey guys! didn't think I'd find you two here!"
I shrugged. "It was pretty sudden."
"You here with your family as well?!?" Mabel asked a bit excited.
(y/n) let out another chuckle. "Please, my mom would rather enter a boiling volcano before choosing to fish. I was actually gonna hang out with Soos for a while."
As if on cue, a large boat appears at the other side of the dock called the S.S Cool Dude, Soos standing inside.
"Soos!!!" Mabel greeted happily, fish bumping her friend.
"You coming up, (y/n)?" He asked, making her nod before easily climbing on board, looking down at us after.
"You guys wanna come along too? We weren't really planning on doing much, but searching for the gobblewonker seems awesome!"
"Yeah, and we can totally use my boat for the hunt! It's got a steering wheel, chairs, normal boat stuff." Soos added.
Mabel and I smiled at the idea before hearing Stan speak from behind us.
"Alright alright, let's think this through. You kids could go waist your time on some epic monster fighting adventure, or you could spend the day learning how to tie knots and skewer worms with your great uncle Stan!!!"
We thought for a while, but the answer soon became clear. We climbed on board Soos's boat, who then drove us into the lake as we cheered.
I stepped to the front of the board, feeling confident that we were going to find this supernatural beast. "Host the anchor!!!"
As said, Soos brought up a cinderblock which he used as an anchor.
"Raise the flag!!!"
Mabel raised a towel at my command.
"We're gonna find that Gobblewonker!!!"
"We're gonna win that photo contest!!!"
"Do any of you dudes have sunscreen?!?" We heard Soos ask, all of us staying quiet as an answer until (y/n) replied.
"We're gonna... go get sunscreen!!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the moment, I was pacing around the outside area of the boat, Mabel, (y/n), and Soos all looking at me. "Alright, if we wanna win this contest we've gotta do it right. Think, what's the number one problem with most monster hunts?"
"If you're a side character you die in the first five minutes of the movie." Soos replied. Though he's sort of not wrong.
(y/n)'s eyes soon lit up a bit. "Ooh, what if you're a side character...?!?"
Soos was kinda startled at the thought. "Dude, what if I am a side character?!? Do you ever think about stuff like that?!?"
I spoke up, regaining their attention. "No no no. Camera trouble! Let's say Big Foot shows up! Soos, be Big Foot."
As told, Soos stepped forward, giving a weird pose.
"There he is! Big Foot! Uh-oh, no camera! Oh wait, here's one! Ah, no film- you see? You see what I'm doing here?" I said as I explained my point, all of them nodding in understanding.
"That's why I bought twenty-two disposable cameras! Two on my ankle, three on my jacket, four for each of you, and one under my hat. There's no way we're gonna miss this! Alright, everyone, let's test our cameras out!"
They all took out their cameras. Soos took a picture of himself, getting startled by the flash, throwing the camera which landed in the water. "AH DUDE!!!"
I gave a small shrug. "See? This is exactly why you need backup cameras! We still have twenty-one!"
"AH BIRD!!!" Mabel said as she threw one at a flying pelican. However, her aim was a bit far off and was about to hit (y/n) who used her own camera to deflect it, both of them breaking.
"Nineteen, ok guys, I repeat, don't loose the cameras!" I said as I put my hands up.
Soos looked at me. "Wait, loose the cameras?"
"DON'T!!!"
"Dude, I just threw two away."
"Seventeen!!! We still have seventeen came-" I accidentally punched out and broke it. ".... sixteen. We have sixteen cameras."
Mabel asked as she acted as if she was about to throw one away. "So what's the plan?!? Throw more cameras overboard or what?!?"
"NO!!! No, ok, Mabel, you and (y/n) will be lookouts. Soos can work the steering wheel, and I'll be captain."
"Wait, can I be first mate instead? Or Quartermaster?" (y/n) asked.
I nodded at her request, weirdly enough, I trust her in that position.
"What?!? Why do you get to be captain?!? What about Mabel, huh?!? Ma-bel!!! Ma-bel!!! Ma-bel!!! Ma-bel!!!"
"I'm not sure that's a good idea." I said.
"What about co-captain?!?"
"There's no such thing as co-captain."
"Ah, whoops!" She threw one of her cameras into the water.
"Ok fine!!! You can be co-captain!" I finally gave in, hearing (y/n) snicker in the back.
"Can I be associate co-captain?" Soos asked as he walked over.
Mabel quickly responded before I had the chance to reply. "As co-captain, I authorize that request!!!"
"Well, as first co-captain, our number one order of business is to lure the monster out with this." I pointed at a barrel with some fish food.
Soos walked over to the barrel, taking one of the treats. "Permission to taste some?"
"Granted." What, I was curious to see his reaction.
"Permission also granted."
"Permission co-granted!"
"Permission associate co-granted." He licked the fish treat, gagging soon after as he tried to wipe the flavor off his mouth, the rest of us bursting into laughter. "Dude, I don't know what I expected that to taste like."
The closer we got to Scuttlebutt Island, the mist got thicker, causing it to give the island a scary atmosphere. After a few minutes of looking around, I notice Mabel holding a pelican's beak as she talks.
"Hey, how's it going?" She cleared her throat, speaking in a deeper voice. "It's going awesome! Bow bow bo- bow bow!"
"Mabel, leave the thing alone." I said, a bit annoyed.
"Oh, I don't mind. Hey look, I'm drinking water! Twinkle twinkle little-" She stopped as she began to cough, chilling on her water, scaring off the pelican.
(y/n) looked over. "Aren't you supposed to be helping me doing lookout?"
"LOOK OUT!!!" She threw a ball in our direction which (y/n) avoided, causing it to hit me as I let out a small sound of pain, Mabel laughing. "But seriously, I'm on it."
Wrong, we crashed into the border of the island.
Mabel hopped out of the boat. "See? We're here! I'm a lookout genius! Hamster ball, here we come!"
I let out a sigh as (y/n) shrugged at me with a small smile, following Mabel and Soos who had left the boat as well. Eventually, we see a sign titled "Scuttlebutt Island."
"Dude, check it out." Soos walked over, covering "Scuttle" with his arm. "Butt Island."
(y/n) and Mabel laughed at his doing. "Soos, you rapscallion!"
It was a bit funny, but I really wasn't in the mood to laugh. Mabel walked over to me. "Why aren't you laughing? Are you scared~?!?"
"Yeah right, I'm not-"
She poked my nose, stopping me from talking. "Yeah you are!" This went on for a while until we heard a strange growl from deeper in the island.
Soos walked over, now clearly nervous. "Dudes, did you guys hear that?"
"What was it...? Was that your stomach?" Mabel looked at Soos.
"Nah, my stomach normally sounds like whales noises."
She presses an ear against Soos's stomach, soon pulling away. "So majestic...!!!"
I was soon startled as a rat passed by, causing me to drop the lantern we had which broke. "The lantern! Ugh, I can't see a thing!"
"Dude, I don't know, man. Maybe this uh... maybe this isn't worth it." Soos pointed out, making me look over, a bit shocked.
"Not worth it?!? Imagine what would happen if we got that picture!!!" I got lost in a daydream, in an interview with my favorite celebrity. I soon broke out of it, smiling. "I'm in!"
"Me too!" I heard Mabel say as well.
Both of us ran forward, (y/n) and Soos soon following behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(y/n) and I walked ahead of Mabel and Soos, who was beatboxing.
"My name is Mabel! It rhymes with table! It also rhymes with glabel! It also rhymes with... shmabel!" She started to rap.
"Dude, we should be writing this down!"
"No we shouldn't." (y/n) replied to Soos.
I was startled by a sudden nose, whispering to the others. "Guys guys guys! Did you hear something?"
Silent covered the areas until we heard birds flying away. I let out a gasp in excitement. "This is it...!!! This is it...!!!"
Mabel started softly punching my side with a smile as we both walked over, (y/n) beside us as Soos followed.
As soon as we saw a large silhouette near the lake, we hid behind a fallen log, everyone getting their cameras out.
"Ready? GO!!!"
Soos was the first to run out of our hiding spot, yelling as he took pictures of everything, the three of us following behind.
I was more than disappointed when we saw it was an old wooden structure covered in beavers. Whatever hope I had of finding the gobblewonker slowly deflated.
"But... but what was that noise then? I heard a monster noise."
As soon as I spoke, we looked over to see a beaver messing around with an old rusty chainsaw. Talk about a danger hazard.
"Sweet! Beaver with a chainsaw!" Soos said as he took a bunch more pictures.
(y/n) took a few as well. "Aw!"
After a while, we were still in that same area. Soos continued to take pictures while (y/n) was playing with a small beaver which lied on her lap, and I sat on a small rock on the water. Mabel walked over to the edge.
I let out a sigh. "Maybe that old guy was crazy after all..."
"He did you the word scrapdoodle..." Mabel said with an embarrassment shrug.
I looked at her. "What are we gonna say to Grunkle Stan...? We ditched him over nothing..." I threw a rock into the water, now noticing the vibrations that emanated from the ground. "Hey, guys, do you feel that?"
As soon as I finished my sentence, the rock disappeared from underneath me, causing me to fall in the water. Mabel and Soos quickly pulled me out of the water, (y/n) running over.
We all turned to see something swimming in the water, and my eyes widened almost immediately.
"This is it...!!!" I told everyone as I took out another camera. "C'mon, this is our chance!!!"
I looked to see (y/n), Mabel, and Soos backing away from the edge, their eyes wide and glued to something behind me. "What's wrong with you guys?!? It's not that hard, alright? All you gotta do is point and shoot! Like this!"
That's when I realized that the gobblewonker was right in front of me. I dropped the camera, but I couldn't move, frozen in fear as it roared.
Something pulled me before the beast could get me, noticing that I wasn't on ground anymore. Both (y/n) and I glowed a bright (f/c), and she grabbed my wrist when I was close to her reach, both of us starting to run.
As we all ran, Soos picked (y/n) and Mabel up. I started taking pictures of the Gobblewonker, but to my dumb luck, dropped the camera.
Soos then picked me up. We made it to the boat and Soos drove us away, but the Gobblewonker was still following us!
"Alright, this is it!" I took out another camera. "Cracked lens?!? Soos, take a picture!!!"
I turned to see Soos throwing all the cameras at the monster. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?"
He chuckled a bit embarrassed. "Oh, I still got one left. Don't worry dude!" He threw it over, but it crashed into the wall and broke, making me growl before seeing Soos go to the wheel.
"GO GO GO GO GO!!!"
Soos drove past many fishing boats, not to mention a beavers den making it rain beavers on us. I had two biting his hat, Mabel had a few on her arm, Soos was getting scratched in the face by one, and (y/n) had two pulling her hair.
As I pulled them out and threw them at the water, I saw Mabel grab the wheel and try her best to drive the boat. The Gobblewonker absolutely destroyed the boat, but it still managed to keep going. We were now driving into the waterfall, Mabel screaming at us.
"WHERE DO I GO?!?"
I quickly searched through my journal in a panic, soon pointing forward. "Um, uh, into the falls!!! I think there might be a cave in there!!!"
"MIGHT BE?!?"
We all scream, readying ourselves for the impact. Instead we went into a cave and landed flat on the ground after the boat got stuck on land. We let out sighs of relief before the monster came inside. However, it thankfully wasn't able to reach us!
"It's stuck!" I heard my sister say.
I chuckled before looking over in realization. "Wait, it's stuck?!?" I searched around my vest, panicking when I couldn't find a camera when (y/n) took off my cap, another camera lying on my head, making me laugh with joy.
I took as many pictures as I needed. "Did you get a good one?!?"
"They're all good ones!!!" I hugged Mabel as we all cheered.
The celebration didn't last long, for a giant rock fell on the Gobblewonker causing it to... break, as if it was made of electricity.
"Huh...?" (y/n) soon jumped to land on its flipper, and I followed shortly behind.
"What's wrong?!?" We heard Mabel ask.
I softly punched the beast, which made a soft metallic sound, soon climbing to the other side with (y/n).
"Careful, dudes!!!"
(y/n) peeked over. "We've got this, hold on!"
We noticed a strange vault-like door, (y/n) and I exchanging a confused glance before I looked over. "Hey guys, come check this out!!!"
Once they came over, I opened the door, seeing the old man from before inside, pulling many levers and pushing many buttons. "Eh?!? Aw banjo polish..."
I could only stare in shock of what was in front of me. "You?!? You made this?!? W-why?!?"
"Well, I... I uh... I just wanted attention..." He looked down in defeat.
"I still don't understand!"
"Well, first I just hootenannied up a biomechanical brainwave generator and I learned to operate a stick-shift with ma' beard!"
Mabel rubbed her arm. "Ok, yeah, but why did you do it?"
The old man frowned. "Well, when you get to be an old feller like me nobody pays any attention to you anymore. My own son hasn't visited me in months. So I figured that I'd catch his fancy with a fifteen ton aquatic rober! In retrospect it seems a bit contrived. You just don't know the lengths us old timers go through for a little quality time with our family."
Mabel and I took out the fishing hats Stan had made for us, staring at them in shame of ourselves.
Soos let out a chuckle. "Dude, I guess the real lake monster is you two, haha! Sorry, it just like boom just popped into my head there."
(y/n) rolled her eyes with a sigh.
Mabel looked back at the old man. "So, did you ever talked to your son about how you felt?"
"No sir, I got to work straight on the robot. I made lots of robots in my days! Like when my wife left me and I created a homicidal pterodactyl tron, oh and my pal Ernie didn't come to my retirement party and I constructed and eighty ton shame bot that exploded the entire downtown area!!!" He laughed before going back to whatever he was doing. "Well, time to get back to work on my death ray! Any you kids got a screwdriver?"
I let out a sigh in defeat. "So much for the photo contest..."
"There's still one roll of film left." My sister responded as she held the camera.
"What do you wanna do with it...?"
(y/n) placed a hand on my shoulder, a warm smile on her face. "I may have an idea."
We drove the broken boat back to the lake and found Stan on his small boat looking pretty down. "Hey, over hear!"
Stan looked over, looking at us a bit surprised as I took a picture. "What the-?!? Kids?!? I thought you two were off playing spin the bottle with Soos and (y/n)."
"Well we spent all day trying to find a legendary dinosaur."
Mabel continued my sentence. "But we realized the only dinosaur we want to spend time with is right here."
"Save your sympathy!!! I've bee having a great time without ya!!! Making friends, talking to my reflection, I got a run-in with the lake police!!! Guess I gotta wear this ankle bracelet now, that'll be fun." He explained.
"So I guess there isn't room in that boat for three more?" Stan looked at us as Mabel and I out on our fishing hats with small smiles.
"... You knuckleheads ever seen me thread a hook with my eyes closed?"
"Five bucks says you can't do it!" I said with a sly smile, he smiled back.
"You're on!"
I jumped into the boat, Mabel then speaking. "Five more bucks says you can't do it with your eyes closed, plus with me singing at the top of my lungs!!!"
"I like those odds!!!" Mabel jumped in at his response.
(y/n) followed after Mabel. "No specific excuse!"
"Oi, don't steal my lines, (f/c)."
"I can do whatever I feel like doing, Wrinkles." (y/n) replied as she flipped her hair, making me chuckle.
"Whoa, what happened to your shirt?" Stan asked Soos as he climbed into the boat.
"Long story, dude."
"Hey (y)? I don't know if it's just me, but your bag seems to be moving." We all looked over to Mabel who was pointing at her bag.
(y/n) placed it down, opening it for a small beaver poking out. "Oh, it's you!" She said a bit excitedly.
"Aw, he must've grown to like you and snuck into your bag!" Mabel said.
(y/n) gently pet the beavers head before taking the camera out of my hands, making me tilt my head a bit confused. "Alright, everyone get together! Say 'fishing'!"
"Fishing!!!" We all said as we looked at the camera
Soos stepped over. "Dude, am I in the frame?"
I won't lie, we actually had a great time! We weren't able to find the real Gobblewonker, but (y/n) still believes its out there, somewhere.
Who knows? Maybe we'll find it one day, along with many other secrets and mysteries.
Thanks for reading!!! 'Till next time!!!
❤️❤️❤️
