Chapter 6- No Choice

(Chapter 6- No Choice)

"Right this way your Majesty." A tall man in a uniform said. He motioned to a door across the room that quickly entered.

The door led us to a long hallway leading to another set of double doors. Tugging my hand Chase pulled me along until we were at end and opened the door.

Again we were greeted with another beautiful room. It looked more private than most so I’m guessing this is where the held most of their private meetings. If not it was perfect for it. There were book shelves lining the walls and a desk that sat at a large window the over looked a court yard. I wonder how many people came here just to stare out of it. I know I would.

“Ashlyn sweetheart you’re here.” Lisa smiled reaching out to hug me.

“Hey Lisa.” I greeted hugging her in return.

“Grandma, Grandpa this is Ashlyn.” Chase announced proudly. “She’s the one.”

I pulled away from Lisa to see who he was speaking to and saw a couple that looked about the same age as Chase’s parents. This was his grandparents? They would have to be the youngest looking grandparents in history. Which I know is all owed to Vampirism but still I can’t believe it.

"Ashlyn Darling, we have heard so much about you. I’m Alessandra and this is Augusto.” Alexandra smiled as she introduced them.

“It’s nice to meet you.” I nodded.

“Chase she’s so beautiful.” Alessandra gushed. “You two will make beautiful children.”

My eyes grew wide and I nearly fell over. Me and Chase, have kids? They have to be crazy. I’m not even with Chase that way. He is going hear it when I get him alone. I wonder what else he’s been keeping from me. He won' be able to reproduce once I'm done with him.

"Oh you got a feisty one dear." Alessandra laughed at me.

Oh crap, did she hear that? I don’t think I said that out loud, did I? Wow this is embarrassing. Whether or not it’s true doesn’t matter. I never intended for anyone to hear me.

"What the hell is going on?" I whispered to Chase trying not to let anyone else hear me.

“I’ll explain later.” He said quietly.

“Ashlyn, tell me who are your parents? I might know them.” Augusto said.

“I doubt it. We’ve lived in Ohio our whole lives.” I replied.

“You would be surprised.” He smiled but it didn’t quiet reach his eyes. Something seemed a little off with him but I couldn’t quiet place it. Maybe it’s just my imagination.

“Ashlyn and I have had a long flight so I think we’ll retire for the evening.” Chase said before anymore question could be thrown at me.

“Ok Dear, We’ll send up some dinner for you.” Lisa said.

After saying our goodbyes Chase walked back with me to the room. He kept quiet most of the journey but I had questions I was dying to be answered.

“The rooms are sound proof, we’ll talk there.” He said.

I would ask why but I think I already know. He held open the door for me once again and followed in after me before closing it behind us. I pulled off my shoes and made myself comfortable on the bed while I waited for an explanation.

"Okay I may have kept a few things from you." He stated.

“Obviously.”

“I was afraid if I sprung too much on you at once you might freak out more than you already have so I didn’t tell you everything.” He admitted.

"Just spit it out.” I sighed.

“Kids are a requirement to take over our position in The Organization but we don’t have to worry about that for a while since my parents are just not taking over.” He said. “That should buy us a hundred years or so.”

“A hundred years? Chase we shouldn’t even be alive that long.”

“That’s not all.” He added.

“Of course not.”

“You can only carry children as a vampire because a vampire fetus would kill a human.” He said.

You know that feeling you get when you’ve processed to much information so you just shutdown? Yeah that me right now. I had no idea how to handle all of this.

Chase came over to the bed and sat by me. “I know this is a lot to take in but there’s no rush.”

I know that statement was meant to comfort me but it didn’t. I still didn’t feel any better about it. Because no matter what I do I will always know it has to happen. I mean what if things don’t work out between me and Chase and we aren’t really meant for each other after all?

“I’m still unsure of all this.” I confessed.

“I know but you’ll get used to it.”

Something about that statement angered me making me jump up from the bed. “I shouldn’t have to.”

“But you will.”

“Chase, I want to go home. I want to be with my family.”

He looked at me regretfully before saying. “I know but right now you need to be here.”

“Why?” I shouted “Why do you need me here?”

“Because you’re the one thing keeping me from losing my humanity.” He stated.

“What?”

“You are what keeps me grounded. If we are not together I’ll lose myself.” He said.

Yeah well… He still deserves a punch in the chest for dragging me away like he did. That was totally uncalled for and unnecessary. If he would have just explained that to me before I might have complied but now I’m just pissed off.

That slap to the chest is starting to sound really good right now.

"I wouldn't do that. It's going to hurt you a lot more than me." He warned.

What is with that? Is he reading my mind or something? Can I not have one single thing to myself? My mind is mine and not for anyone else to just listen in when they want.

"Are you reading my mind?"

"It’s one of my gifts.” He stated. “Just like the rest of the vampires out there have.”

"Well it’s annoying so stop." I snapped.

“Sorry. I can’t help it.”

“Try.”

I was growing more than annoyed at the situation and being in the same room as Chase right now wasn’t helping matters. He is so calm about this that it kills me. He should be calm. I’m highly upset and he just expects me to get used to it. Hell no.

Yes I would like to help him keep himself but not like this. Maybe he should have thought over his tactics a little more first.

“Maybe you should get some rest and we can talk about this later.” He said.

“Good idea, now get out of my room.”

“Our room.” He corrected.

That’s funny I could have swore he just said ‘our’ and I know that can’t be right because there is no way in hell that is happening.

“We have to. I have to be with you.” He said.

“Stop reading my mind!”

“I’m trying but your thoughts are too loud.”

“Ugh, fine. But you sleep on the couch.”

I picked up one of the pillows and threw it over on the uncomfortable looking couch in the room and waited for him to get up from the bed.

“Is that necessary?” He asked.

“Defiantly. Goodnight.” I said firmly.

“Fine.” He sighed getting up and walking over to his new bed. “But tomorrow we have something to work out.”

“I’ll say.” I agreed.

The rest of the night we didn’t speak, even as we passed each other getting ready for bed. I think anything else he had to say could wait until morning. I was tired, angry and sleepy so any conversation we had would not be a good one. Maybe after I’ve had time to think about things we could try this again in a more civilized matter but until then no words would leave my mouth.
