Chapter 27- Surrogate
(Chapter 27- Surrogate)
Josh and I landed right in front of Don's place but we were hidden by trees and bushes so no one knew we were there yet which was what we wanted. After steadying myself I decided to try walking. That jumping thing really messes with your head.
"It would be stupid for us to just walk in the door so follow me around to the back and we will sneak in that way. If Don knows you're here he probably won't let you go or Crystal either for that matter. I have a feeling this was all a set up." I explained.
"You're probably right. He really went through a lot to get you here. He must want something else." Josh stated.
I made my way through the trees and around the house to the back just as I had planned. I looked to make sure Josh was still behind me and he was so I began searching the house for an entrance. All I could see were windows and balcony doors on the top floor. If Josh could somehow get us up there on the balcony floor than we would be able to go through the door on the top.
I motioned for Josh to follow me and ran through the yard quickly. I led us under the overhang of the house and where there were no window and no way to be spotted by anyone.
"Do you think you can get up on the top floor?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I think so. I haven't worked on my specifics yet but why not try now right?" He joked.
"Right." I laughed.
Josh grabbed my hand again and this time I prepared myself for what was to come. With in a flash we were exactly where I wanted to be. He was spot on with his landing and I was thankful.
As I looked around I realized just how far up we actually were and suddenly remembered my fear of heights. I gripped on to the railing of the balcony to ensure I wasn't going to fall off just out of the blue.
Josh turned the handle of the door and to our surprise it was opened. I figured we would have to break in. Josh led the way in and I followed closely behind him for protection. At least if we were ambushed he could get us out quick if we were touching.
Looking around the room we just entered I realized it was the room I woke up in when Don brought me here before. Everything looked the same except for the newly added TV in the room. I silently wondered if someone else was staying here now.
"We can go through this door and it will lead us to the main hallway and we can begin checking the rooms for Crystal." I said.
"Ok but once we find her we are all getting out do you hear me?" Josh replied sternly.
I nodded my head in response but didn't speak. I was afraid that if I did I would give myself away somehow and I needed for that not to happen.
See what Josh didn't know is I had no intention of leaving. The way I figure it is that Don will never give up on me and I will never be able to escape him so I figured that I stayed here with him once Josh and Crystal are gone than maybe I could get him to trust me and he will show me how to use my powers to its fullest extent. From what I have heard he is the best and it would pay for me to learn from him.
Maybe if he thinks I am going to stay with him willingly and give him a chance he will show me everything I needed to know and then I could use it to take care of him once and for all. Grant it I hadn't thought my plan all the way through yet but I'm working on that. I didn't know for sure what I was going to do yet.
The only flaw in this plan is the fact that I'm not supposed to be using my power because of the babies but I don't know what I am supposed to do. I can't just let him get away with everything now can I? Maybe there is a way that I can control it and still protect the twins.
Josh and I walked across the room to the door on the other side. Before I opened it I listened for anyone who might be in the hallway that would catch us when we left. When I heard no one I slowly and quietly opened the door and peeked out.
The hallway was totally empty with no one in sight which surprised me. I thought we would have to dodge a few people along the way but we have encountered no one which was weird. Don has a full staff so they should be all over the place.
I left the room and trailed along the wall until I reached the door next to the room we just came out of. I wiggled the handle but this one was locked. Normally I would have tried to break it down but that would cause too much noise and alert everyone we were here so for now we have to think of other ways.
I quickly moved on to the next door and moved the handle to find it was unlocked. I peered inside the room looking for Crystal but saw no one and instantly moved on to the next room.
About 30 minutes later we had searched every room on that floor and the only one we couldn't get into was the one that was right beside my room when I was here.
"Ready to back track?" I asked Josh.
"I guess we don't have a choice but are you sure she wouldn't be on another floor?" Josh questioned.
"Don keeps his staff on the other floor so he wouldn't have kept her there." I explained.
"Yeah I guess you're right." He agreed.
After we made it back to the door we started with I quickly thought up a plan. Josh should be able to teleport us into the room and then it will be no problem. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
"Why don't you just get us into that room?" I said.
"I don't know that room. I can only go places I know or there is no telling where we will wind up. The only way I got us here in the first place is because you let me look in your mind and I saw this place but from what I can tell you haven't ever been in this room for me to see my surroundings." He stated.
I sighed in frustration. "Why does everything have to be so complicated?"
"Because that's life." Josh smiled.
"Wow that's deep." I joked.
I know now was not the time to be playing around but the mood around us was too hard and we needed a break.
"So really what do we do now?" I asked Josh coming back to the issue on hand.
"Break it down." He stated. "It not like we can do anything else."
"I guess you're right." I agreed.
"I'll do it. You don't need to be risking anything in your condition." He said.
"Ok." I stood back and let him take care of it.
In his vampire speed Josh rammed into the door and broke it down sending pieces of the door flying everywhere and that's when I saw it, pieces of silver from the other side of the door. It must have been lined from the inside meaning there was a vampire in the room he didn't want getting out.
Upon my revelation I frantically looked around the room for my best friend. She was standing by the window looking out on the lawn but made no attempt to turn to us.
"Crystal." Josh screamed.
"You should have listened to me and not come." She said still looking away.
"Why, we are getting you out of here?" He said.
"Because it was a set up." She stated.
Just then about everything happened at one time before I knew what was going on.
Josh was on the floor with a vampire on top of him holding a stake about his heart and Crystal was on the standing over him screaming and Don had me in his grip pulling me away from everything.
My heart began racing quickly as I thought really hard on what to do next. If I leave this room then it's pretty obvious that Josh and Crystal were going to die and I couldn't let that happen. I need to think fast.
"Wait." I yelled trying to get everyone's attention.
Just as I thought everyone pause and the struggling stopped.
I turned to Don. "You are making a mistake killing them."
"How?" Don questioned.
"Because if it wasn't for Josh I would have never been able to get here. He was the one who helped me escape the palace when Chase wouldn't let me come. He brought me to you." I explained.
Don stared at me as he thought about what I said. I really hope he let them go because right now I was ready to do just about anything to make sure of it.
"I guess your right but I won't let them go. They will have to stay here or they will give up my location to the others."
Before I could reply to him Josh sent the guy hovering over him flying in the air and as he hit the floor Josh drove the stake in his heart killing him instantly.
He held Crystal hand and yelled for me. "Ashlyn lets go."
"I can't I'm sorry. Go without me." I said as my voice broke.
"No Chase will kill me." Josh yelled.
"I know I'm sorry." I said and tears seeped from my eyes.
Don let go of me and Charged for Josh but before he got there they were gone. Light a flash of lightning in the sky during a storm he vanished without a trace.
My heart ached once I realized what would happen. They would return home and Chase will have found out what I did and be crushed. It would kill him once he learned that I had stayed behind by choice. He will think I chose Don over him but in reality all I was doing was protecting him.
"He's a jumper." Don said but mainly to his self.
"Yeah." I answered.
Don turned to me and placed both hands on my shoulders in a caring way that surprised me. I guess he was wondering about my actions.
"You didn't leave. You chose to stay here with me." He smiled.
"Yeah I did." I stated.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because I realized what all you went through to get me back and figured you must really love me so I figured you deserved a chance to." I lied.
"That's all?" He said a little suspiciously.
"That and I couldn't fight the sparks we had when we kissed before. I thought I owed it to myself to figure it out." I added trying my best not to cry.
All I wanted to do right now was run back into Chase's arms and beg him to forgive me but I knew I couldn't do that. If I wanted to end this forever I need to play along.
"You don't know how happy that makes me." Don smiled pulling me into a hug and kissing my head.
I felt the tingles from before shooting all up along my body again but this time they were stronger. That kiss we shared before opened up the gate for our bond to grow. When I showed him affection that is what started it all and I just hope I can fight it off but how to you fight a bond?
Don's hands continued rubbing my back and through the strands of my hair when he suddenly stopped. I felt his body tense up which automatically made me tense. I hoped something wasn't wrong or that he realized what I was really doing. If he found out there is not telling what he would do.
"What's wrong?" I asked hesitantly.
"Part of being soul mates is not keeping anything from each other." He said.
"I know." I stated.
"The why haven't you told me about the babies?"
I instantly froze at his words. I tried so hard to keep my body from shaking in fear. Now that he knew about the kids how what he do to them? All I know is I will protect them with my life? I would die before I let anything happen to them.
"It's ok I'm not mad. In fact I think they will be a great addition to the family." He chuckled.
"Addition?" I questioned.
What addition is he talking about? Addition means to add to existing and as far as I know there is no existing.
"Ashlyn I would like for you to meet someone." Don said turning to the door.
All of a sudden a little boy that looked about four or five came running in the room and jumped into Don's arms.
"This is our Son River." He laughed as he tickled river.
"Excuse me?" I asked. "I have never had any children."
"I know. His mother died in child birth four years ago but he needs a mom. He is half yours after all." He stated.
"How?" I questioned now very confused. "If his mom died how is he half me?"
"Because his mother was just a surrogate. You are his biological mother."
My head was spinning at this point as I tried to put together all the pieces. So don and I had a child together that I never knew about. Don is the father and I am the mother? How could that be? If he is five years old that means five years ago I would have to have my eggs taken from me but I know for a fact that I didn't so how did this happen?
"Still confused?" Don asked.
"Very." I stated.
"When Arianna died I had nothing left. Everything was taken away from me which left me devastated. I called in doctors and scientist from all over the world to try to take was left of her before it was too late. Every doctor I talked to said that there was no way they could bring her back but then I came across one that said he could give me the next best thing." He paused for dramatic effect. "A child, that way I would be something left of her."
The more I heard this story the worse I felt for Don. Only then did I realize how hurt he was when she died. He tired to everything and even went to lengths for getting a kid. It broke my heart to realize what he went through. I don't love Don but it made me sad to hear of his grief.
"What happened then?" I asked.
"Well as you know there was no such thing as harvesting back then but the doctor that found me was way ahead of his time and he figured out a way to do it. It was only recently that I found someone that could carry a vampire child but it ended up killing her in the end anyway. Luckily River survived though." He smiled.
Upon realizing everything Don was saying was true I started feeling faint and had to sit down. I had no idea how to handle this situation. What would this mean for me and Chase now? This must have been why Don was ok with the babies because he had one of his own.
I wanted to cry and scream and runaway but I knew that my problems would never go away that way. I knew I had to face it one way or another.
As I stared into the face of the child that was supposedly mine I began to cry. I had no idea what to do? Should I love the child or hate him or just keep away from him? I know I didn't have him but he was still mine but the fact that he was half of Don scared me. Could I love a child that was part of him to?
"Mommy are you ok?" River asked.
A thousand emotions ran through me at once. Pain, regret, sadness, love, happiness, hurt and I had no idea what to do with them.
Feeling very over whelmed I stood up and walked to the door before looking one last time and Don and River. "I'm sorry this is too much for me right now. I just need some time." With that I left to be alone so I could think.
Chase POV
I frantically search mine and Ashlyn's room when I saw that she was missing. Somehow she left the room and I know it couldn't have been on her own. She had to of had help getting out and all the signs point to one person 'Josh.'
The reason I knew is because he was mysteriously missing to and I knew he would go after Crystal himself. He probably talked Ashlyn into helping him in his little plan. When he gets back I will kill him if anything happened to Ashlyn. How dare he take her along with him when he knew she would be in danger.
"I'll never get used to that." Crystal said entering the room with Josh.
Within a second I had him pinned against the wall with my hand around his neck.
"Chase stop." Crystal screamed trying to pull me off of Josh.
I ignored her and deadly look at Josh. "Where is she?"
"Don has her." Josh said trying to breathe.
"Why did you take her along? Were you trying to get her killed?" I spat.
"No, she would have gone with or without my help. Just like she chose to stay despite my protesting." He stated.
I instantly released him and backed away in shock. "She chose to stay?"
"Yes." Josh replied gasping for air.
"Before you get to upset I think you should know something." Crystal said.
"What?" I asked barely audible.
"She has a child with Don. I saw him myself." She said.
I shook my head. "That's impossible."
"It's not I promise. He is five." She answered.
"How?" I asked in disbelief.
"Arianna and I will tell you the whole story according to what he told me." She said.
I nodded my head and sat down with Crystal to listen to the whole story. By the time she was done I was utter shock. I couldn't believe what she had just told me. That bastard was going down for what he did. He is going to try to make Ashlyn stay with him now by suing the child as leverage I just know it.
I bet the child was just as bad a Don since it came from him but then there is a chance it could be like Ashlyn. I'm not exactly sure what to do about the kid yet but I know one thing I had to get Ashlyn back now and Don needed to die. I will make sure with everything in me that happens and whoever gets hurt in the process will just have to get hurt.
Ashlyn was never Don's for the taking but he did it anyway and now her must pay the price. Something cannot be forgiven and this was one of them.
"If he wants war than war is what he will get." I said to no one unparticular.
"What are you going to do?" Josh asked.
"Attack." I stated."I figure everyone can be trained in three days and that's when it will happen. I will go in after Ashlyn and when she is out we will destroy the whole place and everything in it."
"What about the Kid?" Crystal asked.
"We will figure that out later right now Ashlyn is my main priority." I said.
"We save the child to it's the only way I will agree. He can't help who his parents are." Crystal said.
"Fine then we will attack in three days and take no prisoners. Everyone dies that sided with Don." I ordered.
Don has pulled his last stunt and I will make sure he never does another one. I will finally rid the world of Don once and for all and make sure he doesn't hurt anyone ever again.

Hello everyone! So I'm back from my short break I had to take and I missed you all like crazy. This chapter was not as long as I wanted it to be and I'm sorry but I worked so hard on it and put in lots of surprises just for you. I wish I could have spent more time on it but I got sunburned really bad yesterday and my back and shoulders are killing me sp please be understanding. Anyway I hope you enjoyed it and look forward to your comments , I can't wait to read them.
Also one other thing and I will leave you alone. As much as I hate to admit it the book will be coming to an end soon. I think maybe three- four more chapters and I will be done but I have some good news for you. After it's over I will make a sequel with the kids but less Chase and Ashlyn. I don't know when but I promise to do it. I'll try not to make you wait to long though.
I know some people are confused as to how Ashlyn has a child. Rivers mother was the surrogate mother using Arianna's eggs. If anyone is still confused here is the definition.
Surrogate Mother- Surrogacy is an arrangement in which a woman carries and delivers a child for another couple or person. This woman, the surrogate mother, may be the child's genetic mother (called traditional surrogacy), or she may be genetically unrelated to the child (called gestational surrogacy).
Also here is a link for more details- http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrogacy
So like I always say-
