Caroline
Sundays are lazy days for Caroline.
When I was alive, Caroline used to go crazy with me if I made a noise on a Sunday morning.
For Caroline, Sundays are best spent in bed with a good book and a hot cup of tea.
Especially in the winter.
Here in Lions Brooke, the weather is always terrible.
If it's not cold, it's hot and raining.
Merlin is agitated and is therefore agitating Caroline.
Merlin has been meowing hysterically and uncontrollably since last night.
He dashes up and down the hallway for no good reason.
He meows as loud as possible.
He goes on like this for hours and hours.
Caroline's face goes red like it always does when she's angry.
Once Caroline has had enough, she rolls out of bed and stomps across the hallway to my room.
Well, I guess it isn't really my bedroom anymore.
I watch as she knocks on the door angrily multiple times.
No answer.
She opens the door to my room and she realizes that I'm not there.
She gets even angrier and heads down the stairs.
She is still half asleep, so she stumbles a little on her way down the stairs.
It's a miracle that she doesn't trip and fall.
I watch Caroline fondly.
When we were kids, she was ridiculously clumsy.
Mom and dad are eating breakfast already.
Scrambled eggs and toast.
Their favorite Sunday breakfast.
I am not in the kitchen.
I am simply watching my sister and my family.
I miss them.
"Where's Violet?" Caroline asks.
I wish that I could yell at here and tell her that I'm with her.
"I don't think she came home last night, her car isn't in the driveway." Dad shrugs.
Hearing that hits me hard.
I'll never drive home again.
I watch as Caroline rolls her eyes and stumbles back up the stairs.
Merlin is still having a kitty mental breakdown, so Caroline scoops him up and takes him to bed with her.
It warms my heart.
Merlin doesn't like Caroline very much.
He hisses at her and runs around her bedroom in circles.
He does that thing cats do when they look like they're chasing invisible ghosts.
Caroline can't handle it anymore.
She calls me.
Straight to voice mail.
I wonder what he did with my cellphone.
Did he throw it in the river?
Did he run over it?
Did he bury it with me?
"Your cat is ruining my day." Caroline says after the beep.
I can't help but laugh.
Merlin hates Caroline so much that he manages to pull at the door handle and let himself out.
I watch as Caroline sinks back into her pillows and stares up at the ceiling.
She looks anxious.
I wish I could tell her what happened.
I wish I could hug her.
When I don't return home by sundown, mom and dad call the police.
The police believe that I absconded.
Caroline believes otherwise.
My sister might be stuck up, but she isn't stupid.
No one leaves all of their possessions behind if they plan on running away.
Running away is a mission that needs to be planned out carefully.
Caroline knows this.
Mom and dad are concerned.
They keep calling my cell and it goes straight to voicemail.
They call my friends Janice, Rebecca and Lexi.
How I wish I could see my friends again.
They haven't seen or heard from me either.
Mom and dad are in a fit of panic.
Caroline is forced into remaining calm.
Sadly, she's always the sane person amongst insane people in her life.
Sensible, dependable Caroline.
She has always been as sturdy as a rock.
Right now, I'm counting on her to find out the truth.
