The Ink Demonth Day 11: Environment
If you asked the employees of Joey Drew Studios what was the place like from the inside, they'd tell you that it's way bigger on inside than the outside. (can you guess that reference? ;3)
But, out of all the rooms that were in there, the one that a certain winged ink demon favored the most had to be Heavenly Toys. Most people would think that it was just because of his childish love for the plush toys that were everywhere in this room.
But that was not the real reason.
The real reason was that it was his flying room.
He was first introduced to this room just a few days after being created. He stumbled upon there when he was trying to get away from the other employees' stares and painful words, and saying that he was amazed would be a big misunderstanding.
It was by far the biggest room he's ever seen in his very short life!
There was a huge sign in the center of the room with a large halo on top, and numerous plush toys on the floor, varying in size. Two giant model planes were hanging down from the ceiling above. There were also two couches, each of them on both sides of the room with several cutouts of a very familiar character.
The ink demon went to look more closely at it and recognised it from the Drawings that most people were carrying while running to his creator's office. But that was not it, there was something else that was familiar with this character...
He looked at himself and sure enough, he looked a bit like it. At that realisation, he had a feeling that he was supposed to look like and that was what his Creator meant when he said that he wasn't perfect.
He lowered his head in shame at that and wondered if he would've loved him if he turned as perfect as wanted him to be.
The demon then got an idea. If he couldn't look like how his Papa wanted him to be like, he could still try to do somthing else to make the man proud. He paced around the room, thinking of what he could do that would impress his Creator.
While pacing around the room, his right wing bumped one of the cutouts and made it fall on the ground. He sighed, annoyed with how large his wings were and went to put it back up.
The winged ink creature then got an idea.
Since he had wings, that should mean that he could fly, right? And that also meant that he could show his Creator that he could still great things and he would finally love him!
He tried to fly, but it turned out that it wasn't so easy. He had trouble getting off the ground and when he actually flew he would always bump into things. At some he even a heard rapid footsteps and a really angry voice yelling at him to stop making so much noises and messing with everything, only for the made stop abruptly and shakily apologize and tell him that he could continue whatever he was doing. Intringed, the ink demon looked at where the voice had been and saw the man running back to a room that was behind the sign and on top of two stairs. He rolled his eyes at that but shrugged, comforting himself with the knowledge that he would be left alone when training on his flying. He determined to make his future performance perfect.
After he made the decision to cover his eyes, he couldn't go to Heavenly Toys anymore as he needed to find a way to navigate around the studio safely first. He promised himself that he'll train when he'll found a solution.
Unfortunately...
It seemed like his Creator had other plans.
Those two years were the horrible times of his life. But, thankfully, someone heard his cries and saved him from that horrible place. But, it was at a cost...
"I'm sorry kid, but you can't go up there." he heard his uncle Tom say. Inky looked at him with a surprised and horrified look.
"Inky, that was the deal, remember? You can't go on the upper levels. I'm really sorry..."
The young demon felt his world crumble down.
He couldn't go to Heavenly Toys to fly anymore? After over two years of not flying?
He was so heart broken that he didn't do anything when the mechanic told him goodbye and left.
After he left, the winged ink demon made his decision. He won't let anyone take flying away from him, if he had anything to say about it! Flying was the only thing that could make him free! Besides, he wanted to thank his uncle for setting him free.
And so, for the first time, he broke the rules and went to Heavenly Toys.
With being pratically partially blind, he needed to re-learn everything. But he was determined to succeed.
When he regained his sight, the first place that he went was his flying room, and he was once again amazed by this room. Flying also became way easier now that he could clearly see everything.
Heavenly Toys truly was his favourite place.
2 years later (Oh look! I'm actually using transitions when time skipping!)
He ran away.
He knows that it would only make things worse and that they'll get even more worried. But he just wanted some time alone! Without anyone looking at him in pity or treating him like he was made of glass.
He didn't where he was going but he didn't, so he trusted muscle memory to lead him somewhere calm.
Unfortunately, even his own body seemed to be against him today.
He was now on level K...
Standing in front of one of the two of the one room that he didn't want to ever step foot in.
Heavenly Toys...
It's funny how this room used to be his favourite, but is now the one place he avoids as much as the giant Ink Machine.
It used to be his sanctuary, his flying room!
And that was why he avoided it the most, it was just too much filled with, once happy, but now painful memories.
But, he decided to still go step foot in it. But, this time, the amazement never came.
And this time, he didn't stop walking.
Until he came at the entrance of a room...
A room behind the huge sign and on top of two stairs, where a certain Irish man worked.
"Huh? Inky? What are ya doin' here?"
He didn't move or made any noise.
The man's surprised look morphed into a warm and soft look. "C'mere kid, ye look tense. Wanna' watch me work on these dolls?" he tapped his lap and the demon went to sit on the floor and put his head on the toymaker's lap.
And that was it, he just listened to the man working. It was very calming in a wierd way, even his chatting was soothing.
Isn't it also funny how a new yet strong bond can be made in such little time.
But, that's another story for another time.
