Chapter 19: Apparently, you're not good enough.
I hated choosing. I couldn't choose between my brain and my heart. My brain told me to choose Arden and my heart told me to choose Cameron. What in the freaking umderworld should I do? If I chose Arden, he was a player. If I chose Cameron, he was a cheater. Which one is the worst?
Anyway, yesterday I had a great time with Cameron and his grandma, Gam. She was a very nice woman and showed me a part of Cameron that I didn't know. She showed me that Cameron could be more than the bad boy façade he had put on. And made me more undecided. "Psst, Cinderella!" the annoying voice called behind me. We were in Math class, having an exam. I had finished mine five minutes earlier and had ten more minutes to spare and to be annoyed by the dork behind me.
"What?" I whispered back annoyed. I turned towards him and he was looking elsewhere. "Cameron!" I whisper-yelled. He turned to me and smirked.
"What?" he repeated.
"What did you want?"
"I think you're imagining things Nerdhead." he said, pretending to be obvlious. We were back to Nerdhead again.
"You called me!" I said, louder than I intended to.
"Anything you want to share with us, Ms. Garfield?" Mrs. Graham interrupted us. Oh boy!
"No." I said quietly. I hated that woman, but I didn't want to get a detention. Cameron did though.
"Nothing that you haven't still shared with my father." he spat. The whole class turned their attention to us. Did he really need to say that?
Mrs. Graham stood there speechless for a moment. Ha! What would she probably say? "Cameron Court, out now!" she shouted. What the-
"It's not his fault that you share salliva with the principal." the words came out of my mouth before I could process them.
"Both of you, detention!" she screamed louder. Cameron grabbed my hand and pulled me up. Then he shot a death glare towards the fuming teacher and dragged me out of the classroom. What was going to happen now? Who cares? The teacher's face was totally worth it. As we arrived at the end of the hallway, we both burst into laughter.
At the end of our laughter, I was holding my belly because it hurt from laughing so much. Cameron was panting. "That b*tch!" he cursed. Then he turned to me. "You... that was awesome." he laughed.
"Well, she deserved it." I said, proud of myself. "But what about the detention?" I asked worried.
"You didn't like the last time?" he winked. Yeah, the last time was when we pranked the jocks. That was something to remember.
"It was, but I don't want to end up dead." I cringed.
"Speak for yourself." he smirked.
"So, what do we do now?" I asked. Cameron though about it for a moment before smirking evily. We were about to get ourselves into trouble. Oh great! Why did I have to open my big mouth and ask?
"Come with me." Cameron grabbed my hand and dragged me to the direction of the principal's office. What was he trying to do? We arrived at the office in a matter of minutes. He let go of my hand and opened the door. A sense of déjà vu came to me as I watched the inside the office. I rememebered when I met Cameron for the first time and when I helped him find out that his father cheated on his mother. It had been two months since then. I hadn't realized that I had zoned out until Cameron shook me. "Cinderella!" he called.
"Huh?" I answered. "Sorry!" I smiled sheepishly. "What are we doing here?" I asked him.
"A tiny surprise for my dad." he had that evil smile that I was scared of. Trouble, here I come.
***
I was laughing so hard that I thought I would die from laughter. Let's say that Cameron's surprise for principal Court was hilarious and the reaction that the latter did was more. We were hiding in janitor's closet as we heard Mr. Court yell through the school's corridors for us, well Cameron. He didn't know I was involved. "You're evil." I exclaimed.
"It's my middile name." he smirked. He was too close for my liking. Eh, the janitor's closet it's not a five star hotel room.
"Butthole!" I muttered.
"Are you seriously going with this?" he asked out of the blue. What was he talking about?
"With what?" I questioned, giving him a confused look.
"With the 'no swearing policy'. It's getting old." he said as I gave him a look. Was he serious about this? I had never liked to curse and I have sworn to myself that I would never do that.
"Well, excuse me for not wanting to be rude." I said sarcastically.
"Sarcastic much?" he snapped. I wanted so much to punch him right now.
"Can we get out of here?" I asked annoyed. If I stay one more minute near him, he will be dead or I will kiss the life out of him. He shook his head no and leaned closer."Cameron?" I tried to push him away, but he wouldn't budge. Was he going to kiss me? Do I want him to kiss me? No, he didn't like me, why would he kiss me?
"Tell me if you want me to stop." he said in a husky voice. Oh no, he didn't. He didn't just throw the bomb on my side. I didn't want him to stop, but I also wanted. Come on McKanzie, make up your mind. He was dangerously close. I didn't have much time. I could feel his breath on my lips. This was it. I would have my first kiss on a janitor's closet with Cameron. Or so I thought.
The door burst open and we jumped away from each other. I hated the person who opened that door. I turned my head around to see the last person I expected to be here. "My office, now!" he demanded.
I was doomed.
He shot us both a death glare and walked away. I wanted to laugh at the way he looked because of the surprise me and Cameron did. He was red. Not from anger, but literally red. I don't know where Cameron found the paint, but it worked.
"My office now!" Cameron mimicked him in a childish voice, which made me burst into laughter and forget that I was going to get into trouble.
"Stupid!" I muttered under my breath and walked towards the prinicipal's office, with Cameron behind me. When we reached the office, I couldn't help but giggle at the sight in front of me. The entrance was all red and the whole hallway had red footsteps. Cameron snorted as we entered inside. "Who did this?". Principal Court asked angirly.
I looked down embarrassed. As much as I hated him, I couldn't talk him back. He was the principal after all and could expel me anytime he wanted and I couldn't afford that. It would ruin my dream to go in New York University. But Cameron wasn't scared at all. "I did. Any problem with that, dad?" he said, spitting the word 'dad'.
"Just because I'm your father, that doesn't mean I won't get you expelled." Mr. Court shot back. Oh no, he was way beyond angry. "First you insult your Math tea-"
"Your wh*re." Cameron cut him off.
"Your Math teacher and then you do this. I have many reasons to expel you." he stated. "And you too, Ms. Garfield." he turned to me. I was about to say something but Cameron beat me to it.
"Don't involve her in this." Cameron said. Was Cameron Court protecting me? I wanted to speak again, but again Cameron stopped me. "If you expel her or me, I will make sure that all the school knows about your affair with that b*tch and then you will be the one who will never step a foot on this school, are we clear?" Cameron asked in a stern voice. I wouldn't be sursprised if his father would be intimidated by him, because I sure was. Cameron could be scary when he wanted. "Come on Cinderella." Cameron caught my hand and dragged me out of the office without letting Mr. Court speak a single word.
We went to the Math class to get our bags and then separated ways. "Uhm... Cameron." I called before he could leave. He turned to me.
"Yeah?"
"Uhmm... thanks for... you know..." I stuttered. Cameron chuckled and leaned towards me, planting his lips on my cheek. Then he left. Curse you Cameron Court!
I frowned when I realized who my next class was. PES, the only class I don't share with Cameron and the only one that... you'll see.
As I dressed on my gym uniform, I went there. Our PES teachers, Mrs. Wonders and Mr. Rodriguez, who surprisingly wasn't fired, were already there and they looked very excited. I wondered why. The last time that they were this excited was when- oh no, it can't be, right? Impossible. Please tell me it won't happen again.
When all the students were in the gym, they divided us in four teams, which consisted that a team would have nine players. My nightmare was going to be real. What was different from the last time was that I wasn't in the same team as Alexis and I thanked god for that, because the last time was a total disaster. Anyways, we were going to play soccer. I didn't mind it, really, I loved soccer, but watching it isn't the same as playing it. I sucked at ball games. Oh well.
I was in team four and Alexis was in team two. She played as a goalie and I must admit that she was good at it. She could act like a princess, but when it came to soccer, she was a beast. And guess in what position I played? Mrs. Wonders thought that it was a good idea for me to play as a forward. I mean, come on, didn't she see how bad I played the last time? I swear the teachers in my school want to make my life miserable.
The first match will be between team two and three. The winner would play against the winner between teams one and four. The games would last fifteen minutes.
After fifteen minutes the result was 2-0 for Alexis' team. I kinda expected for her team to win, since they had the best forward of the school, Jackson. The whistle blew and the game ended. Now it was our turn. We went to our positions and waited for Mr. Rodriguez to blow his whistle again. The ball was between me and Jake, one of the forwards. Jake passed the ball to me as the whistle blew. I shot him a glare and passed the ball back to him. Idiot! He knew I couldn't play to save my life.
The first five minutes were a tie. Team one had a good shot, but our goalie didn't let the ball go to the net. The second five minutes were a total mess. Fortunately, no one passed the ball at me and Jake had a good shot too, but he didn't score. Then it happened what I was scared that would happen. Jess, one of the midfielders, passed the ball at me. Luckily, there wasn't anyone near me, so I walked with the ball some meteres and managed to pass the ball at Jake, who scored. Wait, rewind: I passed the ball at Jake, who scored?
But how was that possible? Did I really do that? Before I could comprehend what was happening, Jake, who was running towards me, tackled me to the ground. "We won!" he cheered. We won! We actually won because of me!
Then I realized that I was going to play again, against Alexis. Lord, help me! Jake helped me stand up from the ground. Mr. Rodriguez came to me. "Nice pass, McKanzie!" he congratulated. I smiled at him as he left to go to the others, I heard an annoying voice speak behind me.
"Yeah, nice pass McKanzie." she said mockingly. I turned and gave her the deathest glare I could. I hated her so much. She had her hair on a bun, a perfect one. I just wanted to rip her head off.
"Thank, slut." I muttered and smirked to myself. She turned red from anger.
"I'm not the one dating two guys at the same time." she spat. What was she talking about? "And let me tell you something b*tch. Stay away from Cameron. He is mine." she said slowly.
"One, I don't date any guy." I stated. "And two, it's not my fault that Cameron can't stay away from me. Apparently, you're not good enough." I smirked and walked away from her. What was with her anyways?
I went to my position at the field and waited for the last game to start, which started a minute later. It went peacefully. No ball was passed at me, so I was okay, just like the first game. Ten minutes later and the result was 1-1. Jake scored first, but Jackson tied the game. We were in the last five minutes, which didn't change anything. No one of the teams scored so the game went to penalties. Mrs. Wonders went the opposite team while Mr. Rodriguez came to our team. I hid behind the others as he called the names. "Jake, Ryan, Chris, Bella and..." he stopped and looked at us. His black eyes found mine and he smirked. I panicked, he wouldn't. "McKanzie." he did. He actually did. Ughhhh.
"Why me?" I complained. All my teammates laughed as I stuck my tongue at them. Our goalie, Amelia went to her position in the net. Jackson was the first to shoot his penalty and he scored. Then it was Jake against Alexis. He scored too. This went on until it was Collin's turn from he other team. He shot and Amelia caught the ball before it could hit the back of the net. It was 4-4 tie.
Now it was my turn. If I scored, we would win, if I didn't, we would be still a tie. Jake shook me and gave me a cheering smile. It was me against Alexis. I could do this. I mean, how hard could it be? I just had to kick the ball and that was it. I went to the white point and put the ball there, gave Alexis a death glare and walked some steps backwards. Come on McKanzie, you can do this.
"Of course I can." I muttered under my breath and ran towards the ball. Just a simple kick. I kicked it with my right foot and closed my eyes. I heard cheering and 'oooh's. Did I score? Tell me I did. I opened my eyes and gasped. I did score, but not only the ball, Alexis too. She was on the ground, inside the fatal line, holding her face with her hands. What did I do?
***
"I heard you kicked ass at soccer." Arden laughed when we were at the cafeteria. Arden, Jennifer, Matt, Addison and me were sitting together at lunch.
"More like face." I chuckled. Apparently, when I had kicked the ball, I kicked it so hard that it went straight to Alexis' face. It broke her nose though. But it was hilarious.
"That b*tch deserved it." Jennifer said. I glared at her for swering, but she only shrugged.
"I never thought that it would hit her face though. I just kicked the ball." I stated.
"Guys, I have a good news and a bad news. Which one do you want first?" Addison announced as she looked at all of us.
"Good?" I said, more like asked.
"A new boy came to our school today." she said. What was the good in that, I would never understand.
"Bad?" Jenn pushed.
"His name is Hunter." Addison said and I stared at her blankly. Again, what was the good and bad in those news?
"H-Hunter?" Jennifer asked terrified. I looked at her and all the colour had dried off her face. And she wasn't the only one. Matt and Arden had terrified faces too. What the freaking cherries was with them? And who was this Hunter guy?
"But how it is possible?" Arden asked in disbelief. "He was supposed to be in jail. How could he come back?" now I was confused. Jail? That guy was in jail?
"Where is Cameron?" Matt asked me. Wait, what had Cameron to do with that guy? And why was he asking me?
"I don't know. And who is this Hunter guy?" I snapped.
"We have to find him before Hunter does." Jenn said worried. Okay, this was getting scary.
"Can anyone explain me what is happening?" I yelled.
"Find Cameron." Was all that Jennifer said as they stood up and went to different direction. I grabbed Arden's hand. He seemed tense and worried too.
"What is happening?" I asked, in hope he would give me some answers.
"Cameron is in trouble." he simply said.
"But I'm confused. Why do you care? You hate him."
"I do, but that doesn't mean I want him dead." with that he walked away. Dead? What did he mean by dead? Was this Hunter dude going to kill Cameron? I took out my phone and dialled his number. "Hi, I can't answer now. Go find another to bother." His voicemail answered. Darn it! Where was he? I dialled another number.
"Oliver do you know where your brother is?" I asked as soon as he answered the call.
"No, why? Anything wrong?"
"Yes. Do you know who this Hunter guy is?" as soon as I mentioned the name, I heard Oliver curse.
"Sh*t, McKanzie, go home and stay there. I'll find Cameron." was all he said before hanging up. What the- did he expect me to stay and do nothing? As annoying as Cameron could be, I didn't want him dead. I liked him for god's sake. I dialled his number again, but he didn't answer. Where are you Cameron Court?
