"Love yourself; treat yourself like a rose. Watch you bloom fully, radiating happiness."
Loud claps were all you heard echoing throughout the spacious and brightly lit modern auditorium. Nathan, Lance, Jane and Maika were sitting in the fifth row, all anxious and excited at the same time.
It's Danny's graduation, he earned enough credits to graduate one semester early. He was ecstatic to find that out a few weeks ago. Danny is the valedictorian of the year, Maika was practically jumping out of her seat. She's wore a big grin on her face, she was happy for her brother, he deserved it.
Danny would never want to do any work. He always did it though and strived for bigger and better. Being in a known high school, many students were competing with one another. Danny made it seem effortless to everyone; Maika wished she was like that in high school.
In a few minutes, he would have to give his Valedictorian speech. It signaled the end of him and his classmates' high school years. Nathan was sitting next to Lance, looking like a proud dad. He was weeping in tears when they called Danny's name earlier. There was clear happiness and pride in his face, his smile beamed like the afternoon sun and his hands would form to clap every few seconds.
Jane's eyes were clouded with tears, I watched him grow up! Now look at him! She thought to herself.
Jane had been there long enough to see Danny grow up over the years.
Lance's eyes met Maika as they both had a big smile dancing on their lips, feeling the same amount of happiness for her little brother. Hearing the microphone develop static noises, she turned her attention to the stage.
Danny was standing in front of the microphone, adjusting it. He clears his throat, as he parts his rosy lips to speak.
"Hey guys! Eyes up here!" Danny's lips curved into a sweet boyish smile as everyone in the audience gushed.
Danny wasn't light on the eyes, he's basically the whole package. He was handsome as well as smart, he has hair that resembled sweet honey. They were shaved at the sides, leaving long hair that he could tie up whenever he wanted.
While Maika had grey eyes, Danny had almost hazel eyes. The color was close to a shade of green like aloe leaves mixed with a milk chocolate brown.
"I cant believe it's the end of our high school years! Just yesterday, I was asking my sister how it was. I was scared as hell. Look at me now, going into college! I know everyone worked their asses off-." He was cut off by one of the snobby teachers, scolding him.
He shot a apologetic look, though he didn't feel sorry at all. Danny's father, Nathan let out a big chuckle as Danny continued.
"High school is the time of discovering yourself and creating memories! I'm happy to have met some amazing friends and supportive teachers. I can definitely say I am grateful towards everyone." Maika lets out a big smile, her eyes welling up with tears.
She was the motherly figure in the house with Danny growing up.
She thought to herself. It was hard, but seeing Danny achieving every goal he set for himself. It was definitely worth it.
Maika's POV
Slamming my hand onto the table, I let out a laugh. We were at a restaurant now, to celebrate Danny's new milestone. It was dimly lit with roses scattered throughout the restaurant. It had a beautiful, yet prestigious ice sculpture in the middle of the establishment.
Danny rolled his eyes, "Seriously! You would've thought he'd let it slide! We were leaving for God's sake." Shaking his head, he placed the glass of water between his lips.
I nodded in agreement, the teacher kept interrupting him. Earlier I could tell everyone was getting mad at that.
My dad shakes his head as he sips his Chateau Pierre slowly, swishing it around the wine glass. "Danny boy, you've made your decision yeah?"
I was utterly upset at the fact that Danny was most likely going away for college.
Danny nods as I look at him anxiously, my right eyebrow was furrowed.
"I contacted MIT this morning, they were happy I chose them." He lets out a big smile, showing his white straight teeth. Lance chokes on his drink, setting it down quickly he reaches for Danny's hand.
Shaking it rapidly and patting his shoulder, "Holy shit, congratulations bro!"
Jane claps enthusiastically in the background, as well as the waiter passing by.
I watched Jane's eyes grow wide with happiness then shrink back down to sadness.
She fake sniffles, "I can't believe you're growing up so fast Danny!"
Rolling my eyes, Jane always was the dramatic one.
This was so true though, no one wanted to see him go.
I leaped out of my seat and engulfed Danny into a tight hug. He chuckles at me patting my back, like I'm a kid.
"I'm going to miss you too sis, I'm not leaving until Fall! You have me till then!" He says jokingly, sending me a smug smirk.
Dad raises a glass into the air, loudly declaring. "To Danny! Welcome to shitty adulthood!"
We all let out a roar of laughter that seemed to attract the attention of the whole restaurant.
"To Danny! Don't start doing drugs 'cause it's gonna get stressful!" Lance lets out a addicting, smooth velvet chuckle as soon as those words left my lips.
We clinked glasses happily, downing the sweet wine. As we took a seat, I saw my dad with a mischievous smirk on his lips.
What was going through that crazy mind of his now?
"It'd make my life if Lance proposed to my daughter now! It's like my kids are leaving me!" He lets out a dramatic fake cry.
Lance chokes on the piece of garlic bread that he had just put in his mouth. My cheeks started to flush red as I hear a way too happy Jane and Danny chant 'yes'. I buried my face into my hands, my family was way too embarrassing for me.
The table suddenly got quiet as I raised an eyebrow whilst looking up. Staring at the figure in front of me, my mouth fell agape.
"What are you doing here Aiden?" My dad spoke up, I felt the anger rising in him.
Although, Aiden was a good worker in his company.
He still doesn't have a good vibe from him considering what he did to me, his daughter.
Aiden raised his hands up in defense, "I heard you guys were celebrating Danny! So I wanted to say congratulations and I wish you the best."
His words were directed towards Danny, but his eyes were lingering on mine. My chest tightened, I didn't want something bad to happen right now.
Lance, and my dad in front of Aiden right now? I don't think this will end well.
Danny muttered a silent 'thank you' as he gave Aiden a half hug. Who was still standing there idly, like he wanted something else.
I raised an eyebrow at him as he came to my side. He kneeled beneath me as I gave him a 'what the fuck' are you doing look.
Resting a hand on my bare thigh, his touch made me feel uncomfortable.
I was starting to feel dizzy and my heart was beating way too fast. "The baby wasn't mine."
That still doesn't change the fact he cheated on me. The baby was just the cherry on top.
Those simple words shocked me as I shoved his hand off of me. Lance comes to my side, who looks like he's ready to go off.
I let out a dry laugh as I held Lance's hand. I shook my head towards Aiden.
"That doesn't change anything Aiden. You and I were never meant to be. Thank you for your words for Danny, but please." Taking my hand out of Lance's, I rested it on Aiden's shoulder.
"If you have any intentions of us talking as friends again. It's best if you don't bring up our past, I'm completely happy right now. If you want me to be happy, just let it go." I let out a small smile as Aiden gulps, seeing his eyes get glossy.
He clears his throat as he nods, walking away reluctantly saying 'goodbye' to everyone.
I didn't need Aiden's closure.
I found my own closure, that was way better.
Raising another glass in the air, I let out a big smile towards everyone's worried faces. My nails clinked against the wine glass.
"To us, I hope we all find happiness if we didn't already. I love you guys." Everyone cheers for me, as we all said a 'amen'
Nothing mattered the most, other than me finding my own happiness again.
Lance helped me find my own happiness within ourselves, my brother was going off to college, my family and friends were healthy.
We were all happy, or close to it.
