Thirty Two: The End Of Our Story
"Happiness doesn't have a definition. When you find yourself at peace, even for a split second. That's when you know you've found your happiness."
—
Staring at the mysterious book in my face, I raised a curious eyebrow at Jane's bewildered expression.
Parting my lips to speak, still half awake. She woke us up so early, especially after we had a day off today.
"So you're saying.. someone is stalking us?" I tried to hold back a giggle as I reluctantly peeled my eyes open some more.
Picking the book up curiously, I eyed the exterior.
It was a black printed book, with a sketch on the cover.
That looked like a silhouette of a couple kissing in the night sky. They were holding each other's face and the girl looked like her hand was entangled in her man's hair.
"Yes! I'm telling you! I thought it was an interesting book then I started reading and halfway I was like.. huh what the fuck? This sounds like our life." Jane frantically told me while throwing her hands in the air.
I let out a small giggle, she's so delirious. She hasn't slept for a whole day, she told us a few minutes ago.
Lance plopped down to us, leaning in to give me a kiss on the forehead before yawning. He raised an eyebrow at the interaction Jane and I was having.
Shaking my head, I passed the book to Lance who was on my right side.
My lips trying to cover the smirk that wanted to appear, letting out a small giggle before I said anything.
"Jane thinks this book is about our life. Love life.. friendships.. family."
He flipped the book open, his hands tracing along random pages.
The book smelled so fresh and new..
Jesus did she read this in one night? No wonder she's coming up with crazy theories.
Lance closed the book quickly and flipped to the back of the book. His eyes skimmed the blurb quickly as he parted his rosy soft lips to speak.
"Two troubled people; both hot headed and stubborn but broken inside.
Meeting him was the best thing that happened to her, but what happens when he's exactly like her?
Old secrets come up for air as the new couple tries to push past all the obstacles and create a new chapter in their life.
Will their love be strong enough? Or will this be another tragic love that ends up breaking their hearts?"
My eyes shot up as a smile left my face. This book seemed interesting, she was right.
I don't know why Jane said this is like us though?
Lance let out a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around me, then he squeezed my thigh. A goofy grin danced on his lips as his eyes stared me down.
"No way, our love is strong enough. If anything, it got stronger." He stopped for a split second and held my hand tightly before he opened his mouth to speak.
"Look at us, we're 24, 25 now. We had beautiful, and I mean, a beautiful wedding. Everyone we were close to came. Soon, I gave Maika half of my genes-."
Smacking his thigh hard, he let out a yelp in pain. Jane let out a big roar of laughter, seeing a glint of excitement in her eyes. A smirk appearing on her lips slowly.
I rolled my eyes as he squeezed me into a tight embrace. I let out a protest shouting for 'help'.
I couldn't freaking breathe! He was cutting off my circulation.
Opening his mouth to continue, "We have a beautiful house.. we have a great life. So we're not like the book, in that sense."
My eyes twinkled in awe as I let out a big grin. Staring down at our intertwined hands, then my eyes slowly traced up to his forearm.
A tattoo of two beautiful roses with black and white shading; with red script lettering.
"To bloom, you need light."
Smiling widely, this a poem I made one day when we were finally resting in bed. He instantly shouted that he's going to get this tattooed on him.
He went the next day.
Needless to say, that made me super happy. I was crying, I didn't think my poetry was that great.
It's been 5 years since we've been together. Our wedding was one of the most beautiful events I've ever went to.
Maybe because it was OUR wedding.
Everything was magnificent, we had it in Oahu, Hawaii. It was an outdoor wedding for a few hours. We had it outside a house we rented, there was a beautiful backyard that held about 50 people.
We only invited immediate family; so it was only 25 of us.
It was grassy, it showed the horizon of the beautiful sky. I still remember the ocean breeze. We captured it perfectly in pictures, we had a barbecue in the backyard after.
It was just perfect, everything I've ever wanted.
Snapping back to reality, I saw Jane looking towards the staircase. I let out a groan as I held my face with my palms.
Hearing light footsteps hit the floor, resulting in 'pitter-patter' sounds.
A tiny, messy brown haired, slightly tan child came into my view; our child.
He rubbed his eyes gently as his lips turned into a pout. He walked over to us slowly, swaying to the sides a little bit. He pushed Lance aside and plopped onto my lap, resting his head on my chest.
Patting his hair while soothing his back, I let out in a soft voice. "Good morning papas, did we wakey you?"
He nods as he lets out a small whimper. Lance lets out a chuckle resting his hand on his back as well.
"No kissey for daddy, Kade?." Kade sat up sleepily as his eyes widened in horror to his father's words.
He reached his arms out as Lance carried him into his arms.
Hearing another set of footsteps, my eyes looked up to see my baby girl.
Her loose curls were bunched on her shoulders, with her shiny dark hair. She opened her bright round hazel eyes, tiny hands on her hips bossily.
She trekked over to Jane, giving her a small kiss on her cheek as she climbed off.
Walking towards Lance, she smacked his arm with her toddler strength.
A smirk danced on my lips seeing her boss around Lance was super funny.
"You wakey... me." She stumbles a little bit in a soft voice, trying to find the right words.
Lance picked her up as well, now cradling our twins.
Yes, we have kids now.. well twins. I'm sure you would've guessed that by now.
I gave birth when I was 22. They were both born in April, we found out in August.
They just turned 2 not too long ago, they were the love of everyone's lives.
Aviana was bossy and more of the leader rather than Kade, who was born 10 minutes earlier. I guess I should've been able to tell then, that she would be bossy.
I let out a big smile, Aviana reaches over for me and I grab her gently into my arms.
She gives me a kiss with her small pouty lips as a dorky smile appears when she stares at me.
"M..mowning.. morning mommy." She cheered to herself a little bit as she formed a whole word.
I kissed her back and pinched her cheeks, proud that she corrected herself, in her small voice.
"Morning Avi. Sorry for daddy wakey you." She nods then her eyes turn to slits when she stares at her daddy, trying to be menacing.
Jane gushed as I see her taking pictures and Snapchat's of us.
She was our number one fan girl.
Still, after all these years.
Taking in the image in front of me, I have a beautiful family. I have my wonderful but annoying kids, a loving husband. Supportive family and friends.
It couldn't get any better than this.
My lips itched to curve upward into a big grin, I didn't stop them.
Aviana and Kade were pulling Lance's hair in different positions as Jane was laughing and rummaging the fridge for drinks.
We created a new chapter for ourselves, we built together, we got stronger together.
I know our love is strong enough. Nothing will ever tear us apart, it's just Lance and I forever, along with our little bundles of joy.
I don't know about the characters in that book Jane showed us.. but, I'm definitely happy.
We made it, we found our happiness.
