Chapter 4 Part 1: Transfer orders

Camp bastion-Aphganistan: 4:30pm local time

I glanced at the watch around my wrist for the millionth time. I was itching to get back to base, so I could relax and read the new book  that I hope mum said she would send me last time I spoke to her. The bushmaster jolted and bounced over the unforgiving terrain.

There was meant to be 13 members of my team, but there was only 9 in the vehicle, the others had to be air-lifted back to base because of injuries they had received. Regretfully, one of the injured won't be going home. He was dead.

"Captain? Hey sis are you even on this planet?" Sarah's voice cut through my thoughts.I looked over my shoulder to Sam and her outstretched hand. "Here, eat the last of the jerky." A smirk played on Sarah's lips. I nodded my thanks and took the small paper bag out of her hand. Glancing at the label to see what type it was, I pulled a piece out and popped it into my mouth.

"I could almost swear that your off with the fairies, I was calling your name for hours." Sarah laughed. Rolling my eyes I grabbed some more jerky before handing the bag back to my sister.

"Fast lane through a hurricane
Open road and I'm ready to roll
Put the pedal down right away
Red line and I'm givin' it more

City lights are burning bright behind me
Top down, I push it to the floor
Street signs and the center lines spinning
Burning hot, I feel like I'm ready to roll" Sarah sang a loud, using her helmet and feet for the beat of the song that was playing on her iPod. Some of the others joined in with Sarah, while the rest just smiled, thankful for a distraction.

"Alright everyone, get ready to move out in five." The Gunner ordered as the convoy slowed to drive through the main gate of the base.

"But it's so nice in here." Sarah whined, "Like seriously, who wants to walk around in god knows what the temperature."

"Whip," Cross, the driver, remarked softly, "Fine, we'll drop you off in front of the tents. But your on foot from there." Cross huffed bringing the bushmaster to a stop a few meters from the tents where Colonel Stanford stood waiting for the team, to give us a debrief.

"Don't worry, ma'am. We'll take care of Hawk for you." A vehicle mechanic remarked when we pulled to a stop and I opened the passenger side door.

"Thank you," I smiled, "I trust you know about the special requirements for this vehicle?'' I asked jumping down to the hard earth, closing my door and handing a clipboard to the mechanic, whom signaled to a few of his buddies as he fell in step beside me.

"Requirements, Captain?" The mechanic asked confused. Stopping short of where the Colonel stood waiting for me, I addressed the mechanic directly.

"Your from the US division," I stated, nodding to the US flag on his chest before pointing at the Bushmaster, "And Hawk is from Australia. That Bushmaster has saved my team more times than I can count and is the most relivable vehicle that I have ever driven or ridden in. The special requirements are on the second page attached to the clipboard you are holding. Do your best not to stuff up my truck." I ordered, slapping him on the shoulder.

"Yes, Captain." The US mechanic nodded, before taking off towards the Bushmaster to over see the refueling and maintenance. Turning to face the Colonel, I closed the short distance between us.

"Where is Seamus?" I asked. Seamus Bowden was the usual mechanic that over saw the care and maintenance of the Aussie divisions vehicles. Sarah came up beside me, followed by the rest of the team.

"Major, Captain. Good work out there and I do apologize for the loss of your comrade. Those that were injured will be flown back to Townsville for recovery and so on, and so on," Colonel Stanford remarked, while a large group of soldiers entered the building behind him, "Mr Bowden has been transfer to Diego Garcia. Please take a seat and everything will be explained."

"You better fine a good replacement for Seamus or I'll have you as-"

"Sarah!" I snapped at my sister, pushing her towards the building that was gradually filling up. Groaning, Sarah rolled her eyes and headed in first, spotted one of her friends and strolled over to them. Leaving my sister to talk to her friend, I strolled to the front of the room and took a seat in the second row. Sighing, I rolled my shoulders waiting for everyone to take a seat.

"Olen." A deep male voice called to my left, as the owner approached me.

"Scott," I smiled, nodding my head at the England born soldier who sat down beside me, "Nice to see you again." I remarked.

"Nice to see you too." Jono grinned, looking over my shoulder. Following his gaze, I spotted Sarah as she took the seat beside me, pulling a face at the both of us.

"Alright, everyone. First order of business, I have transfer orders," Stanford started handing pieces of paper out to everyone in the room. Several men to my left, not including Jono, started to whisper to each other about their orders and where they would be going. Looking down at mine I ignored the introduction of the letter and went straight to the destination. Diego Garcia.

"Sir, why Diego Garcia? Don't you need a high clearance level to access that place?" Jono asked. Looking over to his and Sam's letters I found that they were both being transferred to the same place as me.

"You will be debriefed about what your assignment is when you get there," Stanford answered leaning against the podium that sat at the front of the room, "You will be leaving in 2 days. You'll be flying there via four USAF C-5 Galaxies."

'Why Galaxies? Globemasters would have been a better choice and why four?' I wondered to myself.

"Why are we going by a large plane that flew during the Iraq war sir?" Sam asked before I got the chance to. Though, to be honest I had hopped she would ask. She does know more about the vehicles the military use then I do.

"The reason you'll be flying in the Galaxies is because the base at Diego has asked for some more vehicles. So we are sending four Mogs and four Bushmasters. Including your's, Mrs Olen. Major Olen, I would like to speak with you after we're done here." Stanford stated before continuing with the debriefing. All the while Sarah had a vacant look in her eyes.

Two hours later the debriefing was finished and the Colonel and Sarah disappeared into his office, while everyone else went about their business. Those that were leaving in 2 days were required to clean out their bunks and have everything ready ahead of schedule.

Diago Garcia – Pacific Ocean: 6:30pm

After the defeat of Bumblebee everyone had ganged up on Optimus, who wasn't ready for it. In fact he had his back to everyone when they all decided to shower him with water balloons and water until he was soaked from head to ped with water and pieces of balloon.

"We have to do that more often." Chance exclaimed drying off his short spikey hair with a towel.

"That was fun! Next time we should make sure it's raining," Jared laughed sitting next to his brother, "I wonder how Sarah and Ezmay are doing over in the Middle East? I bet they would do anything for a couple thousand water balloons and a ocean full of water to cool off." Jared laughed.

"And you know who they'd drown with all that water." Chance scoffed throwing his towel at Jared's face.

"Who are you two talking about?" Lennox inquired, strolling over to where the pair stood in the rec hall.

"My girlfriend Sarah and her sister, Esmay. They are practically inseparable." Chance chuckled, passing a photo of the two girls, decked head to toe in Australian military combat gear, posing in front of a Bushmaster PMV. Dust and sweat covering both the girls and the vehicle. Secretary Keller strolled over and had a look at the photo of the girls while he gentle patted his hair dry.

"I believe they might be apart of the group being transferred here sometime this week with an infantry group." Keller stated, shooting Lennox and the boys a smile and nod before strolling away.

Chance glanced at his brother, his heart sky rocketing.
