So these creatures belong to a tribe. Right after death, a skull is placed on their face like a mask. When all of their sins get 'demolished' slowly after time, the skull is their new face and are allowed to live again, but cannot leave their caves. All the skulls must have 'tribal' markings but it can be different skulls like a ram skull for example and simple 'tribal' designs on it. All have claws instead of paws, or can have hooves. The animal behind the skull can be anything but nothing specific.
