Chapter Seventeen
(y/n)'s POV
It was Friday night and I was excited for the hangout Janis had suggested on Monday.
Apparently, the plan was to watch bad Netflix movies and make fun of them. Which was something I was VERY down for, I loved laughing at dumb movies.
Janis had told me we'd be at her place tonight, and texted me the address. Apparently Damien's parents were on a business trip and he couldn't have people over when they were out of town.
I decided to dress a little nicer than normal, because admittedly I thought Janis was pretty cute and I wanted to impress her.
I'd realized that I did, in fact, have a crush on her, but I didn't plan to act on it.
I wore black leggings, white fuzzy socks, a plain white tee shirt, and over it an oversized, light gray sweatshirt that said "I am freaking cold". It was my favorite, and I thought I looked pretty darn cute in it.
I stepped into my beat up black converse and grabbed a black backpack filled with everything I'd need, tucking my phone and keys into the pocket of my leggings.
I know, my leggings had pockets. It was legendary. I still got giddy whenever I tucked things into them, and I'd had these for around a year.
It was time to walk the distance to Janis' house. It wasn't that far, but it was far less convenient than Damien's place.
Curse the Hubbards and their business trip.
My mind immediately wandered to Janis, making a giddy smile subconsciously spread on my face, warming me to my core. We'd been close recently, and I loved it. I really liked her, despite how early on it was in our friendship. I could see myself being with her for a long time, we just got each other.
Eventually I got to her house, shaking my head and forcing the stupid smile to leave my face. It would be embarrassing if I just showed up grinning like a fucking maniac. No one thinks a crazy girl who smiles at nothing is hot and wants to date her.
I knocked on the door, expecting Damien or Janis to open up, but instead a woman I didn't recognize swung it open. She had long, messy brown hair and olive skin, and wore a bit of a mischievous smile.
"Oh, you must be (y/n)! I'm Janis' mom, she's told me a lot about you." She says, extending a hand for me to shake. I hesitantly do so, my nerves spiking.
"It's nice meeting you too, Mrs. Sarkisian. May I come in?" I asked pleasantly, but I knew my voice sounded shaky and awkward
So much for a good first impression on your crush's parents, dipshit. Now you'll never get her blessing to date her daughter.
"Oh, calling me Mrs. Sarkisian makes me feel old, please call me Margaret. And please, come in." She said pleasantly. I stepped in, before the woman then called out, "Janis! The girl you talked about is here!"
My face heated up at the realization. Janis... talks about me?
Immediately, Janis came rushing in, just as red in the face as I probably was.
"Moooom, you're not supposed to tell people that." She grumbled as she entered the room. We made eye contact and I smiled brightly, which she immediately returned, almost instinctively it seemed.
"Oh, sorry dear." Mrs. Sarkis- or, uhhh, Margaret, said playfully.
"What's all the ruckus going on in here?" Another woman entered the room, this one with slightly paler skin than Janis and her mom, her honey blonde hair cut to her chin. As opposed to the brunette's white button up up and black slacks, this woman wore a light blue floral dress and a white apron.
"Mama, mom's teasing me!" Janis complained. I could see the amusement in both the ladies' faces as I stepped sideward to stand closer to my friend, feeling pretty awkward right about now.
"Marge, I think that's enough. Let Janis and her friend have a nice night." The blonde scolded lightly.
"Fine, Beth. Now, let's go prepare dinner." Margaret said, leaving the room, still smirking.
The second mother approached me with a kind smile, extending a hand which I took to shake.
"I'm Bethany, Janis's other mom, it's been nice meeting you (y/n). Janis has mentioned you a couple times, I hope you come over more." She said pleasantly, turning heel and following her wife before I could respond.
Janis grabbed my hand, grinning at me with a distinctively flushed face.
"Ignore them, lets go to my room. I have Tall Girl ready to go sleep and I stole some snacks from the kitchen." She said, dragging me out of the room. I laughed, immediately forgetting the awkward encounter with her parents.
"You have impeccable taste, I see." I giggled as we walked. "When is Damien showing up?"
"Oh, he cancelled, said this really cute guy wanted to hang out. It's just you and me tonight." Janis explained. My eyes widened at the thought.
I was gonna be alone at a sleepover with Janis.
"That's okay, right?" She asked, noticing my lack of response.
"Yeah, totally! It's cool, I just was a bit shocked is all." I laughed.
"Okay good, I wouldn't want you to be uncomfortable." She said as she opened a door, leading me into the room.
It was nice, with dark purple walls and a very cluttered but artsy aesthetic. There were art supplies, sketches, paintings, and small sculptures everywhere.
"Welcome to my humble abode. Make yourself at home, we're gonna watch the movie on my laptop." She said, flopping onto her bed and scooting over so I could sit next to her as she leaned against the headboard.
I set my bag down, sitting carefully next to Janis. The lights were off and the blinds were blocking out the sun, so it was quite dark. Perfect for movie night.
Janis immediately wrapped an arm around me, pressing play on Tall Girl.
This was certainly shaping up to be an interesting night.
