WIP and some drawings

Hey everyone! I know I just posted something a short while ago, but I was working on a drawing and really wanted to show you guys a quick piece of what it is so far.

I began working on it shortly after publishing Aika, and I just finished the first lineart layer which serves as my base for the proper lineart, which will be done with my black pen tool. I cropped the image for some reason in a duplicate image, but to be honest, I kind of want to focus more on his face rather than his body.

Here he is! I was looking through my sketchbook and found an old drawing from... 2018? I think? I don't date my pictures (which I should do), but it was definitely older based on what I saw. I felt the need to redeem myself with it, and after taking a picture of it to transfer it to my drawing tablet, I began working. I probably spent 2-3 hours just trying to get one person done, this guy above.

I've never been the best at side profiles (the lips and back are my least favourite part to draw if we don't count hands), but with a reference on my computer, I feel like this is one of my best side profiles I've done. There isn't much to it, but I'm already really pleased with it, especially his hair and facial expression. He kinda has that soft and in love look which I am very happy with. His hair was a bit of a hassle, but I managed with a second reference I thought matched pretty well.

Alright, enough with that. I'll put the full photo below just 'cause. His body still needs some work, and I have two more characters to add, so it's gonna be a long process.

With that, I got some more art I want to show you guys!

So you guys might recognize this, but I drew one of my former drawings in digital form. You can find the pencil form in chapter '1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7-'. I don't have much else to say about it, I just really wanted to show you guys it since I've been sitting on it for months now.

Before we continue, I will issue this warning. The drawings I'm showing you are either digital versions of pencil drawings in other chapters, new drawings altogether, or before and afters of the same drawing that I decided to redraw. With that out of the way, let's continue!

This is a new drawing you haven't seen before. I call it 'Cherry Blossoms'. I got the idea to make this while sorting through my REALLY old digital drawings and found the predecessor to this. I probably made it in 2016??? I had used a reference and wanted to redo it and changed up pretty much everything besides the lineart, which is only present for the girl, and properly refined it. It turned out really well, and I discovered the best time for my artsy side to truly shine is late at night, which you can see by how I finished this at midnight.

Now, this is one of the digital versions of a pencil drawing I was talking about earlier. For those that don't know, this is Eliyra or Ellie for short, my DND character. She's a half-elf sorcerer, and I explain more about her and the one-shot campaign we did in the chapter 'Have Some Art'. We've moved on since then, but I do plan on bringing her back into the new campaign some time.

This is yet another drawing of Ellie, an original one I haven't shown the pencil drawing of. The only difference is this is a full-body picture. I have another full-body picture of Ellie in the same chapter as her pencil drawing ('Have Some Art'), but that was my initial idea and I felt it was too... much. I felt I could do better and came up with this design for her, where she is seen casting one of her spells (Burning Hands, I believe).

As you may have noticed, her hair is changing colour from blonde to silver. That's because, as a person headcanon of mine, when a sorcerer uses any magic, their hair or eyes change colour based on the source of their magic. Ellie here is a Draconic Sorcerer, so her magic comes from a dragon in her bloodline or a dragon having gifted her ancestor their powers that passed down to her. Specifically, the silver dragon, which is why her hair turns silver. If she uses a more powerful spell (Burning Hands is a level one spell), her eyes would also turn silver. I have a pencil drawing where she would be using a spell where both her eyes and hair turn colour and I plan on making that digitally when I'm finished with the one I'm currently making.

Another headcanon of mine is, based on the spell, there is another physical effect on her body. Most of the time, it's just glowing cracks crawl up her skin, which is shown above. The colour is also dependant on the spell, so it is red for Burning Hands. It would be icy blue if she used the cantrip (level zero spell) Chill Touch. Etcetera etcetera.

This is a familiar face. Tatiana, my space girl going to a ball. Nothing much else to say.

Now, the next four drawings are befores and afters for two pictures. I'll put them together, then explain.

This is a mermaid character I created for a future original story I'm planning, and her name is Coral (wow, so creative me). I don't want to explain too much because the story is still in development, and things change quite frequently, plus I don't want to spoil it. So I'll just ramble about the art for a bit before getting to the final drawings.

The thing I cringe most at in the before picture is how stiff her body looks. It doesn't look natural, and the proportions are messed up. I mean... Her hand is horrid... The shading is all wrong and there isn't nearly good enough detail into her surroundings. The bubbles are too big and there's, like, no background whatsoever besides a blue backdrop. The spot where her tail curves up into her tailfin is very awkward. Her hair looks like one solid colour and the coral highlights are too thick.

Thankfully, after improving a bit, I came back and feel like I gave the drawing the proper love it deserved. I could do better in the background, and add some more stuff like fish and coral (hAH), but overall, there is a definite difference between the two drawings. The thing I love most about the after drawing is her tailfin. It took me such a long time and many layers to get it right, but it was so worth it. Her hand even looks fairly decent, if not a bit small. I kind of want to come back to it again in a while, when I've improved further, just to see what else I could do to it. I'd probably start by not making her shoulders as wide and focusing on finer details of her form so it doesn't look as unrealistic. The collarbone, for example, is not what it should look like. I'd also love to give her tail a scale texture to make it really pop!

Alright, that's enough of that. One last drawing!

Ohhhh boy this is a definite improvement.

So these drawings are fanart from a book I read on Wattpad. Unfortunately, the author took it down, but to tell you guys, it was a Ninjago oneshot book done by samseaa! I highly suggest checking out her account if you haven't. She has introduced me to many fandoms (mainly Ninjago), and her work is absolutely amazing! She focuses on xReader's, and they range from Sonic (the new movie) to MHA to Ninjago to Marvel. Samseaa is rewriting a lot of books, so she only focuses on a couple at a time, but I personally love everything she writes, so I don't mind all that much.

In the oneshot book I read, she had five chapters of her headcanons for each of the five ninja before Nya joined. For Lloyd's chapter, one of the points was about how Lloyd gets nightmares because he imagined Morro (the main antagonist in season 5, a ghost) possessing the reader instead of him (the whole plot was Lloyd got possessed by Morro because the ghost was salty that he wasn't chosen to be the Green Ninja (aka Ninjago's saviour) and Lloyd was) (I actually took a scene from the show and basically replaced Lloyd with the girl, so there's that). So I imagined what that would look like exactly, and came up with the original picture. But it was all wrong, from the proportions to the clothes to the expression to the background, and I redid it a while ago.

The new version is quite beautiful, actually. While the character does seem more expressive in the original, I feel like the new expression I drew for her fit better, as she struggles for control over her body and is pained and exhausted to do so. The proportions are under control, though her neck is still a little long (a common problem I have), and I feel much more satisfied with the picture as a whole. Her chest piece, especially, had given me trouble before, and I was very happy to see it actually look like armour instead of some weird design on her shirt.

However, while I was satisfied with the character, I wasn't with the background. It was a million times better than before, but I came back to it today and worked on it in between posting Aika and making the WIP at the top, and it looks complete now. Originally, the lightning was really chunky and fake looking, so I touched it up using a reference and it looks much closer to lightning than a bad stage prop made by a third-grader. The rocks were also plain, as I have no clue how to make rock faces look real, but I found a brush tool and used it before darkening the shadows and adding a few tiny details. It doesn't look real, but it looks much better than when it was plain.

I also got the idea, when redoing the lightning, to give it a purple glow, which was present in my reference. So I tried my best but felt the glow around the lightning wasn't enough, so I put a layer of purple shadows over the clouds to tint them purple and desaturated it, added lilac light to the edge of the rock and around the edge of the character, and darkened the central area of her. It made the contrast greater and I finished it off by making the green glow of her eyes brighter, which made it very spooky. Now, I feel happy with it, though I kind of wish I could have done better on the rock and the central bolt of lightning. It still seems so plain and the central lightning bolt, in comparison to the others, seems too zig-zag-y and plain. Another day.

And, finally, that is everything I wanted to post here. That was a large amount of work to get this stuff to properly transfer from my tablet to my computer (I typically upload the art I want to show to DeviantArt and then download it to my computer from there) because I decided to try something new to get all these drawings without posting them on DeviantArt. First, I tried to connect my electronics together via a cord and replicate and move them from there, but I couldn't find them in the 400+ drawings I have (don't ask, most of them are really old or I was not thinking right when I began them and feel too embarrassed to finish/go back to them), so that didn't work.

I spent another half hour trying to upload them to this chapter using Wattpad on my tablet, but since I've had it since I was... ten? Maybe eleven??? it didn't work out too well and the one picture I managed to get on it didn't show up properly on my phone or computer. So I just emailed them from one email to another (one is for general and the other is meant to be professional) and managed to save them to my computer. Now, I am exhausted and after I upload this at almost two in the morning, I'm going to bed.

What did you guys think? What are your thoughts on the WIP? Any idea on who/what it could be? I'll give you a hint: It's Ninjago related, once again by samseaa!

Thanks for reading!
