Part 9

"Y/N darling, wake up..."

The sun that that hit her face made Y/N scrunch her nose. She brought her petite hands and tried to push her hair out of her face. Mina giggled looking at her daughter fight the urge to fall back asleep.

" Wake up, dear" she pulled Y/N to a sitting position and shake her up slightly. Y/N slowly opened her eyes and saw her mum's face right in front of her, smiling brightly. It took a moment for her to realize that her mother was wearing a brand new dress and her hair was styled up perfectly. She looked beautiful.

" Where are you going, mum?"

" Work, dear" Mina said as she stood up. " come here" she motioned Y/N towards her. Sighing softly, Y/N got down from the bed and walked towards her, not forgetting her precious teddy bear. The moment she got near, her mother scooped her up and kissed her forehead.

Y/N''s eye wandered around and she found out it wasn't morning yet. The sky outside was still in a dark shade of blue. Was it dawn?  She looked at her mother's hand and somehow caught the sight of the basket her mother was tormenting yesterday. Mina's eyes followed hers and her smile gotten smaller.

"Y/N dear" she said, bringing her closer. " I need you to do a favor for me"

" What is it, mum?" she asked her, her round eyes looking into hers. It somehow made Mina sadder, looking at her vulnerable daughter. Without saying anything, she carried her and put her gently into the basket.

"ouch" Y/N flinched as she moved uncomfortably in the basket. The basket was poking her skin, despite being covered by two pillows, She looked up and saw her mum smiling sadly.

" Promise me you will never come out of this basket until I come back home, Y/N"

~~~
Mina played with the hem of her dress nervously as she walked down the aisle with Soyeon. Her mind was still with Y/N, wondering what she was doing, She felt like a terrible mother, letting her child hide in a basket instead of exploring the world.
" You hid her in a basket?" Soyeon asked her.
" Yes" Mina nodded. " I'm afraid they will find her if she walked around"
Soyeon nodded. She knew the decision her friend did may bring more harm than good, but that's the only way to protect Y/N. The guards always roam that area and sometimes checked it, and Y/N could easily get caught if she didn't hide.
" It's okay, Mina" she wrapped her hand around Mina's shoulder, " I bet Y/N is doing great in there, after all, she's your daughter"
The both of them then arrived at the kitchen. Mina was still clueless about her job, she didn't knew what to do expect following Soyeon around. The moment she got inside, she was greeted with many eyes looking back at her. And one was the queen.
"Your majesty" Soyeon quickly bowed 90 degrees to the woman, Mina hesitantly followed her. The woman just chuckled and walked towards them.
" I was waiting for you" she said kindly and lightly grasped Mina's hand. Mina almost got a heart attack, the mighty queen holding your hand, it was not a thing anyone will experience.
"You're Mina, right?" she asked. Mina nodded. " Great, I need to talk to you for awhile" and with that, the queen pulled her outside the kitchen.
" Mina, Mina, Mina" she sang as she brought her into a fancy room she thought as hers, The room was painted baby blue with fancy carvings and paintings on every corner. The furniture in the room were neatly arranged to show the aesthetic vibe.
" Mina, can I ask for your help?" she asked.
" Of course your majesty"
" Could you be my son's babysitter?"
" What?" babysit her son? As for the prince of the Jeon Kingdome?
" I know it's to much to ask" the queen said, bringing her hands to her smooth hair. " But I'm really busy right now. I saw you with your child yesterday, Mina... And I somehow know I can trust you with my precious son"
" But I-I..."
" Please" the woman brought her hands to her chest and looked hopefully. Mina bite her lips. Babysitting the prince? It must be a tough job since princes and princesses are usually cranky and spoiled. Not to mention the arrogance. But the thought of a boy growing up without someone's love disturbed her.
" Okay..."
~~~

Mina was now standing in front of the so called Jeon Jungkook's room, with his mother standing right beside her. She started reconsidering her decision just by looking how beautiful his doorknob looked, and was it made out of gold? How... spoiled.

" He doesn't talk much" she said. Mina nodded, taking a deep breath. The queen opened the door and entered inside first, followed by Mina. She peaked forward and saw a small boy's back facing her. He was sitting on the floor, in the middle of scrunched papers and used paints. The queen scowled.

" Jungkook, what's this?" she asked sternly.

Jungkook turned around and Mina awed. The boy was beautiful, way more beautiful than the portraits she saw outside. His face was smudged with paint but it didn't hide how ethereal he looked. He looked puzzled and surprised.

" Mum!" he called and stood up unsteadily, dropping the painting he was working.

" Why is the room in a mess? You know your father will be angry!" she said.

" I'm sorry" Jungkook muttered. " I was painting and-"

" It's okay" the queen said and pulled Mina forward. " Jungkook, this is Mina. Your new babysitter" she said.

" Oh, wow" he said as he looked at the mess he created. " what will she do?"

" She's going to take care of yo-"

" But what about you?" Jungkook asked back, his eyes glossy now. " I don't want a babysitter, I want you" he pouted.

Jungkook's mother opened her mouth but stopped when someone knocked the door.

" Your majesty" a maid stood there, looking at the three of them. " The king called you"

The queen let out a small sigh and looked at Mina. " I'll leave this to you" she said and walked out, leaving the both of them inside.

"Uhmm..." Mina scratched her head, not knowing what to do. She pitied the boy in front of her who only wants the love from his parents. Jungkook wiped his tears and crouched down. He then looked at Mina for the first time, and surprisingly, there was no hate in his eyes, only sadness.

" Can you.... help me clean?" he asked timidly.

" I uhmm... Of course, sure" Mina said and walked towards the mess before picking it up. Jungkook took two wet towels, handed one to her  and started wiping the spilt paint on the floor. Mina felt disgusted for having the thought that he was spoiled. No spoiled boy will clean the floor with a maid.

" What were you drawing?" she asked as she finished wiping. The boy didn't say anything. He took a nearby drawing and showed it to her, hiding behind it. It was a portrait of a girl, holding a teddy bear.

" Hey, it's pretty" she smiled and clapped, trying to lighten up the mood. The boy's eyes sparkled when he heard the compliment.

~~~
Jungkook's eyes sparkled when he heard the compliment coming out from her mouth. He had drawn numerous drawings before, some were even hanged at the hall, he loved painting and drawing. He loves getting lost in the world of paints and brushes but his passion was never appreciated, let alone accepted. His father was always scolding him, telling that he could do so many better things instead of wasting it by painting.
So when the woman told him that the drawing was pretty, he went over the moon. He always thought he was bad at it, despite training hard. He was at the verge of breaking apart, and today, he felt like throwing all the stationaries out of the window. His drawing didn't satisfy him like it used to. The image of the girl he saw yesterday was crystal clear and vivid in his mind, but he can't transfer it into the drawing.
Her eyes were too dull, her face was too small, her hair was not as perfect as it was yesterday and there were many other things he didn't even know what's wrong. He thought that maybe he was bad at it, maybe he wasn't talented enough to draw her. Maybe he should just quit.
" Are you okay?" the woman asked him. He ripped his eye from the drawing and looked at her. Scrunching his nose, he asked " Is it really pretty?"
" Of course it is" the woman half shouted. She crawled nearer and took the drawing in her hands. " It's perfect. The girl looks beautiful and realistic. Not to mention her hair. It looks so perfect I would trade my soul for it. And the teddy bear... For a kid your age, this is really impressive"
Jungkook tried not to laugh at the sight of the woman being so built up with his drawing but he can't help it. Slowly, after a time that felt like forever, he smiled.
Not because he was forced to,
But because he wanted too.
" Do you want to see my other drawings?"
