Part 19

Dedicated to another person who gave my story a chance

"I'm telling you, Your Highness! I saw him!" shouted Yoongi at the top of his lungs.

It was clearly still in the crack of the dawn, the hall was quiet, windows closed and lamps lit, creating gloomy shadows of the only three people in the hall. The king was seated proudly on his throne, still wearing his heavily embroidered night attire. Yoongi and his father were standing below him, Yoongi's head that was always low now looking at the man bravely in the eyes.

"I swear, I saw him!" Yoongi shouted again, his body language being harsh. His father ran his hand soothingly on his back, but Yoongi was furious that the king is not taking his words seriously.

"Min Yoongi, I've always thought so highly of you but this isn't something I've imagined coming out of your mouth" said the king sternly. "Whatever you're saying is making no sense. You should have realized that by now"

"Junghyun, are you saying my son is dumb?" his father spoke up at last. He had been exceptionally quite through the tense conversation between the king and Yoongi. White-faced, the man was the one who insisted Yoongi to tell the king about what happened after finding him unconscious outside, and yet he had taken no part in the conversation. Yoongi's eyes landed on his father, finding him red in the face and hands clenching.

"I didn't say that" the king told him. " But your son is making a good job proving that"

There was a pause while both of the Min's looked at the king.

"My son is not dumb, thank you very much" his father spoke up. "My son won't lie, I didn't raise him like that"

"Well then, I'm very much afraid to tell that I have no choice but end this conversation then" the king said.

Yoongi let out an inaudible chuckle, wondering if he should still hang on the little amount of respect he had for the man in front of him. The king's sharp gaze lingered on him, boring into his souls. Yoongi refused to look back at the king, his eyes shifted around the dark hall, hovering over the paintings and the dancing shadows.

His eyes landed on a particular painting, a mocking smirk forming on his chapped lips.

"Your son, your highness...." he muttered, eyes finally landing on the king's. The king's face turned into a sour expression hearing Yoongi mentioning the innocent boy. Yoongi felt his father's body tensing beside him but choose to ignore it.

"Your highness, you did a very good job protecting the future heir of Jeon's Kingdom but I'm afraid you're putting him in danger now"

"What?"

"The strange man is no human! Your ignorance will only result in bad things if you do not take the necessary precautions, Your highness!" Yoongi stopped, analyzing the king to see if he's willing to hear him.

The king was.

"I saw many things, far more gruesome. You know that well. I have held the sword more than I've held my mother's hand and still, I couldn't move when my eyes landed on that man" Yoongi said confidently. "You were determined to protect your son that you even decided to cut ties with the Kim's. Do you think ignoring the fact that there's a creepy man here is going to make no harm to your precious son?"

"How dare you speak like that to me!" the king roared in anger. He roughly pushed himself up from his throne, and Yoongi could see how his eyes were red in fury. A chuckle escaped from his thin lips. Yoongi was determined, he wants the king to take actions, even if it could land him in mortal danger. He opened his mouth again to talk but a warm hand landed on his shoulder, pulling him backwards. Yoongi snickered when he saw his father walking forward, stopping himself when he reached the steps to the throne.

"What my son said is right" Mr Min said. "There's no reason for him to lie. I didn't saw what happened but when I found him, he was as cold as ice. He was frightened to the point he fainted and that had never happened before"

"It's not that I don't trust your son" the king said as he sat back on his throne, bringing his right hand to the bridge of his nose and started massaging it. It now dawned on Yoongi, the king was not having trust issues with him, but was actually afraid about the consequences of his action. Of course he would, even if Yoongi was in his place, he would have completely ignore what he heard. A man in black cloak that glides? No one would believe such an absurd tale.

But no matter how absurd it is, the man was real.

"Please trust me your highness" Yoongi brought his hand to his broad chest. "What I've said is nothing but the truth. If it's wrong, I'm ready to face any kind of punishment you will sentence me to"

Although feeling rather pitiful, Yoongi was nevertheless quite relieved that the king appeared to have exhausted his ability to express his fury for being disrespected. He admitted, Yoongi doesn't fancy the idea of the king listing all the punishments he have to face if he was in the wrong side. After opening his mouth once and twice, the king finally brought his hand down and stared right into Yoongi's eyes.

"Fine. I will ask the guards to tighten the security and find the man" Yoongi's lips stretched, showing a rather satisfied smile that didn't reach his eyes. The king looked away but continued talking. "And I need Yoongi to give me more details of that man"

"I will be delighted to do so, Your Highness"
