Part 16

There was a comfortable silence in the air when Jungkook flipped to the last page of his book. The clock in his room seemed like it was bewitched by someone to work two times faster, but who was he to complain? Time always goes against your wish, every single time. The clock was now reading half past one , only a few more minutes before he needs to run down again to meet his father.

The girl in front of him seems oblivious to Jungkook's continuous mumblings about how the time runs around with its tail in its arms. She let out small giggles sometimes as she flipped through the pages of the book her gave him, and Jungkook could only smile in fondness as he looked at her. A small sigh escaped his lips as he realized he needs to go now.

"Angel..." he whispered softly to not scare her from her bubble. The girl looked up at him, looking clearly annoyed that Jungkook spoiled her sweet moment. "I need to go now" he said, crawling towards her.

"Where?" the girl asked, disappointment in her voice. "Do I need to stop reading?"

"Ah no" Jungkook raised his hands to stop the girl who was shuffling on the carpet. "You can still read the book here, but just don't open the door to anyone"

The girl nodded, a small smile lingering on her face. She buried her nose into the book again, completely ignoring Jungkook. He didn't mind though. Jungkook was impressed by the girl's interest in reading books. Maybe he should ask Mr Han to purchase a wider variety of books for the girl to read.

"So, I'll be going now, okay?" he asked. The girl nodded slowly. "Open the door only when you heard six knocks okay? I'll lock it now"

He gave her one last look before approaching his door. Jungkook didn't find the need to comb his disheveled hair and attire after the small wrestling fight he had with her. After all, he's going to roll on mud when he reached outside. He opened the door as little as he could, before slipping outside. There were a few maids outside and he didn't want them to catch a glimpse of the girl inside. Just as he was about to close the door, she suddenly shouted "Wait!"

Jungkook heart almost jumped out of his chest and rolled on the floor. Out of reflex, he found himself slamming the door shut, making the two maids outside flinch in shock. "I...I uhm" he stuttered, playing with his fingers. The maids looked at him, faces screaming suspicious. "I guess I accidentally left something inside" he smiled and opened the door, before slipping inside and locking the door again.

"You do not shout like that when the door is open!" he said sternly. "What if someone heard you?"

"Sorry" the girl said sheepishly. "I just wanted to tell you that I can't be here after eight"

"And why is that so?"

"Appointment with the gods" the girl replied casually, flicking her book again. Jungkook's lips went into a straight line as he muttered bitterly.

"So, I'll get going okay?"

the girl nodded again, refusing to look up at him.

Jungkook waddled down the garden. The breezy air that he felt in the morning was long gone, being replaced by the fiery orb of the sun. Jungkook adored the nature. It never stopped making him gasp at its endless beauty. Right now, the sky was in a colorful shade of baby blue, with a bit of chalky orange twirling pleasantly together, decorated by fluffy clouds. The soft ray of sunlight kissed the top of his sweaty forehead. However Jungkook paid no mind to wipe the drop of salty water away. His mind was occupied with endless thoughts about the girl sitting inside his bedroom, and her cute smile.

Jungkook kicked a small pebble on the white pathway, making it fly forward and hit a tree trunk, before cracking into two and flying in opposite ways.

Did he made a good decision, getting closer to the strange but beautiful girl? Communicating with a kid would make his father furious. It was nothing wrong for his father to go berserk though, after all those precaution he took of course he would be angry that all those efforts he took went straight into the trash can. But thinking about it, his father was also very satisfied and happy with him today, all because of the girl. Maybe his decision did have a advantage...

Jungkook got a shock to find himself standing in front of the very field that Jeon Kingdom's army force uses to train themselves, barely noticing where his feet brought him. The army proving ground was deserted for now, expect for three silhouettes standing right in the middle. Jungkook quickly ran towards them, realizing that one of them was his own father.

"Jungkook" his father called. "You were almost late"

Jungkook smiled weakly and bowed towards each one of them. He recognized the old man beside his father. It was Mr Min, the army general of Jeon Kingdom for years. The man was extremely kind and goofy, despite his nature of slashing men here and there in the name of protecting their empire.

"Your father was just talking to me about your extraordinary performance in Chess today, boy" he beamed lovingly as he ruffled the boy's hair. "Seriously, he won't stop praising you!"

"Stop it, Youngjae" his father said as he pushed Jungkook's face down. Jungkook however, didn't fail to catch a glimpse of his father's face getting crimson. He didn't know his father had emotions other than anger and disappointment.

"Oh, come on... get a life! Kids his age need their daily dose of praises!" Mr Min said.

"I know what I'm doin-"

Jungkook was listening to the both of them bickering. He always did, since that was the only time he get to see his father forget about his 'king' presence. The army general and the king shared a deep bond between them since Jungkook can remember, and it was always endearing to see the both of them wrestle with their words. For Jungkook, there was nothing more fun than watching the both of them being childish.

Jungkook looked at the both of them with a fond smile on his lips, until he made eye contact with the boy standing right beside Mr Min holding two swords. The moment Jungkook's eyes landed on his black orbs, a black hole seems to appear out of nowhere and pull him into darkness. His eyes were dark and cold, contrasting his pale white skin. He was alluringly handsome, and Jungkook was sure if he stepped out of the castle, he would have every woman in the streets line up behind him. The boy looked deep into Jungkook's eyes, clearly not wanting to lose the unexpected eye contact competition between them. He raised his eyebrows, before smiling softly. And just like that, the boy's dark aura shattered to the ground. Jungkook stood there with his mouth wide open, puzzled at how the boy managed to switch his aura as if he was changing clothes.

"Oh, Jungkook" Mr Min suddenly tapped his shoulder. "I almost forgot to introduce you to someone I was dying to do so" He swiftly pulled the boy's wrist, making him stand face to face, no chest, with the mysterious boy.

"Jungkook!" Mr Min was almost jumping on his spot. "Meet my one and only son, Min Yoongi" Jungkook found his mouth hanging open again, the boy who looked like he wanted to devour Jungkook on sight was actually Mr Min's son?

"Greetings, Your Highness..." Yoongi bowed gracefully, acknowledging Jungkook's astonished face.

"Close your mouth, Jungkook. You don't want a fly to have a free tour inside your throat, right?" his father said sternly. Jungkook quickly shut his mouth close and looked at the boy called Yoongi again. Looking at him now, Jungkook could find the resemblance between Mr Min and Yoongi. The both of them had the same eyes and gummy smile.

"How...how old are you?" Jungkook asked, pointing his finger to him. Yoongi looked young, really young. He was the youngest person Jungkook had ever seen in real life, expect for the girl but he's not going to say it loud.

"I'm 17" Yoongi said, smiling kindly at the boy. Jungkook then looked at his father, shock written all over his face. He was only supposed to meet people who are at least 10 years older than him and here was Yoongi, clearly only being a mere four years older than him.

"Jungkook, the reason I put a age limit is because I don't want any immature baboons to talk to you" Mr Jeon said, clearly understanding what Jungkook meant without him even talking. " But that was years ago. Yoongi here will be a legal adult next year although he is only four years older than you" he explained fast.

"O-oh" Jungkook nodded timidly. Yoongi chuckled softly.

"Now since you have already met, get ready for a sword fight" Jungkook's father declared while Mr Min started clapping. Before Jungkook could even register the sudden change in the atmosphere, Yoongi threw a blunt sword towards him and got into his stance. Jungkook awkwardly followed his moves, getting into the stance he was most comfortable with.

Telling that Jungkook was scared would be an understandment, His legs suddenly seemed to be made of marshmallow that were held near to the fire. He shouldn't be worrying about getting injured since the swords were actually blunt, but Yoongi seems like he could even use a cotton pad to kill someone. He took a deep breath and waited for his father to declare the fight. And he heard his father.

Jungkook swore his heart almost leaped out of his cheat when Yoongi pounced forward as soon as his father opened his mouth. He blocked away the boy's sword which was aiming for his chest and swiftly pushed him away. Yoongi quickly regained his balance and returned into his usual stance. With his eyes that darkened to the color of black charcoal, Yoongi cursed and launched forward again. Jungkook moved away, avoiding the sword that almost grazed his stomach. He found Yoongi falling onto the ground, his right side being completely exposed to him. Jungkook tried to use the opportunity to attack him, but the boy was cautious of his surrounding although he was in a vulnerable position. He blocked Jungkook's sword with his and tried to trip the boy, but Jungkook quickly fled away.

"Think, think, think..." Jungkook hissed as he forced himself to bend in an awkward angle to avoid Yoongi's sword. Mr Min's son seemed to be as talented in fighting as him. Yoongi's fight didn't have any flaws, at least in his eyes. The boy with sharp eyes was quick and smart, as well as cautious with his opponents movements. Jungkook need to think outside the box if wants to win. Yoongi may be smart, but he was only a mere teenager who was trained by someone. As long as Jungkook knew, there was no way Yoongi was actually experienced in real war fights. He was not exposed to real fights...

Yoongi stood still, his eyes looking at Jungkook's like a hawk. Jungkook for a fact knew that he was thinking of a plan just like Jungkook's and he could only hope Yoongi was not someone smart. Yoongi changed his position, Jungkook cautiously following after. He doesn't want to expose any of his vulnerable body parts to him, knowing well that Yoongi would use it to attack him before he could even blink.

And with a huge spurt of speed, Yoongi was off. Jungkook got ready to block him again, but with the speed of light, Yoongi was no longer in front of him, but his back. Jungkook could hear the sound of his sword slashing the wind and before he could even think, Jungkook grabbed his sword hand from his shoulder and pulled him forward.

Yoongi was thin, and extremely light. The force of Jungkook's pull made him tumble forward and fell on the sandy ground, his sword flying into a corner. Jungkook quickly sat on top of him, he was almost there. He only need to touch Yoongi's chest with his sword and he would win. Jungkook's doe eyes flicked towards his father's face, whose bright eyes suddenly turning into the usual cold and disappointed ones. Jungkook wanted to ask why he was disappointed, but before he could open his mouth, he was flipped backwards, his head hitting the ground hard. Yoongi was now straddling him, his dark eyes filled with excitement and lips curved in a sickening smile.

"You should never..." Yoongi said as he locked Jungkook's arm together with his left hand "...let your guard down..." he took his neglected sword from the ground "...until you finished your opponent off!"

Jungkook groaned loudly when the sword's tip was pushed hard to his chest, leaving a sharp lingering pain. Yoongi got up and pulled Jungkook together with him, although the younger one was basically curled on the ground.

"That was excellent, Yoongi!" cried Mr Min as both him and Jungkook's father approached them. Jungkook's eyes lingered on the ground. He noticed from the corner of his eyes that his father's hands were clenched tightly to the point his knuckles went white.

"As expected from the son of the army general" his father said gloomily.

"And the future army general of Jeon Kingdom!" Mr Min shouted happily. Jungkook's ears perked upwards. So Yoongi was going to be the future army general of the kingdom, that explains all of his moves. Jungkook almost got him, if only he didn't lost focus...

"Cheer up, boy!" Mr Min grinned. "Your performance was great too! You would have won the fight if you didn't let your guard down!"

"Father...I was being nice. That's the reason why he almost got me" Yoongi said sheepishly as he brushed his black bangs behind.

"Oh yeah, I believe that" Mr Min said sarcastically. Jungkook could only smile weakly at the cute interaction between the Min's. He could never joke around like that with his father. Jungkook was about to apologize to him when his father placed his large hand on his hair.

"You did great, Jungkook" he said, refusing to let Jungkook raise his head and look at him.

"But... but I lose..." Jungkook meekly said.

"Just like Mr Min said, Jungkook. You almost got him. Look at the good sides for once"

"But you always scold me before this even if I did good... why-why are you-" Jungkook couldn't help but let the stupid tears he has been holding since his father placed his hand on his head.

"Oh don't flatter yourself, boy" his father coughed. "Whatever you did before this was anything but good"

Jungkook's silent sobs got more violent after hearing his father's reply. His father has basically no talent when it comes to cheering someone up. But at least, he tried. Jungkook thought he would scold him for crying like a girl, but strangely, the man did nothing expect for slowly caressing his back, which provided him the comfort he badly needed.

"Hey! Why are you making your son cry?!" Mr Min suddenly shouted, Yoongi chortling behind. The both of them heard everything, but the army general wanted to tease the king.

"I'm not making him cry! He's crying because he simply wanted to cry!" the king shouted, tapping Jungkook's shoulder harshly every time he spit a word.

Mr Min laughed. "Come here, Junghyun. We need to talk about something serious"

Jungkook's father immediately left Jungkook and walked away with Mr Min, leaving Yoongi and Jungkook alone.

"Uhmm..." Jungkook danced on the ground awkwardly.

"Wanna walk around?" Yoongi asked, smiling brightly at the boy. It was insane how a small smile could change someone's whole demeanor. Yoongi looked nothing but an average flower boy who just ate breakfast with his family. The boy who just attacked him like a maniac went missing.

"S...sure..."

"Great! There are actually so many places I want to bring you to, but sadly you are not allowed to get out of the castle" Yoongi mumbled as he played with his dark locks as the both started walking to god knows where. Jungkook hated to admit, but Yoongi was the most beautiful boy he had ever met in his life. He was tall and lean, muscles in the right places and he was sure if he was a girl, Jungkook will be knocked out flat if Yoongi flashed his cute gummy smile at him. It was not helping him that Yoongi was simply wearing a tight white shirt, with black pants. How can someone be this beautiful in the most casual sets of clothes?

"I wish I can be like you..." Jungkook muttered under his breath. Why is Yoongi looking like a greek god while he looked the same as he was when he was eight years old? He had no intention of muttering his words loud, but somehow Yoongi managed to hear it.

"Sorry?"

"Nothing" Jungkook quickly replied. Yoongi chuckled.

"If you're jealous of my appearance, then rest assured" he smiled at Jungkook. "I looked like like a baby before I got through the phrase"

Jungkook was about to ask what phrase when Yoongi suddenly shouted "We're here!" Jungkook looked forward and found himself standing on top of a hill. How did he get there, he didn't know. He was too occupied looking at Yoongi.

"Come, take a seat" Yoongi said as he got himself comfy on the green grass. Jungkook obeyed, sitting beside Yoongi. Jungkook's eyes darted at the surrounding. Right below the hill they're sitting, there was a river, whose end was not able to be captured by his eyes. It was surrounded by trees like every other places near the castle. His father refused to get rid of the flora's, claiming that they are the home of the animals and that they have no rights to bring them down. Jungkook rested his head on his knees and closed his eyes as his hair swayed together with the cold wind. The fiery blaze of the sun were long gone, covered by the white clouds, giving a cold windy weather.

"This is nice" Jungkook mumbled as he looked at the scenery of the river in front of him. "Wish I can paint them, though..."

"Ah, painting" Yoongi turned to look at Jungkook. "You're quite well known for your talent in painting"

Jungkook felt blood rushing to his face. "Not really. I'm only average" his mind lingered on the girl in his room. If he's talented in painting, he should be able to paint her but he failed to do so.

"You're ten thousand times much better than me who couldn't even draw a stickman right" Yoongi shrugged. "Well, why do you sound like you can't paint them now?"

"Because I can't. It takes forever for me to paint and I won't have time to do so today. And I can't come back here tomorrow"

"Why can't you come back here?"

"Father doesn't allow me to go anywhere far without someone to accompany me but everyone's busy" Jungkook mumbled sadly. He looked at Yoongi and found him scrunching his nose.

"Do I look busy to you...?"

"I'm sorry, what?" Jungkook asked, sticking his index finger into his ears to see if they were wax free or not.

"I said do I look BUSY to you?" Yoongi asked again, bringing his head closer to Jungkook's.

"Uhmm...no"

"Great then. I'll bring you here tomorrow and you better paint it nice and beautiful" Yoongi said, plopping himself on the fresh grass. "Ah, I could fall asleep right here..."

Jungkook gazed at Yoongi who was now looking way to comfortable. "But why would you want to bring me here? It'll be boring"

"Well" Yoongi smiled as he propped his head on his hand. "Let's just say I'm a man with a bit too much free time"
