Day 100

"Hi."
You look up.
Tyler is standing over you, rocking back and forth on his heels like a child. He's holding his ukulele tightly in his hand.
You smile wider and wave up at him.
"Can I sing you something?" Tyler asks sheepishly, biting the edge of his lip slightly.
You nod and motion for Tyler to sit down next to you.
Carefully, he sits down on the soft grass next to you and crosses his legs.
"So, um," he clears his throat and fiddles with his ukulele. You can tell he's nervous. "I-I wanted to, um, sing you this song that I learned..."
You continue to smile, since you can't do anything but smile.
"Okay." Tyler takes a deep breath, then slowly strums his uke once. He changes chords for a bit, then gets a moderate strumming pattern going.
"Wise men say only fools rush in," he begins, his voice soft and gentle. "But I can't help falling in love with you."
His voice is so beautiful you're mesmerized.
"Shall I stay?" Tyler looks down, but continues strumming. "Would it be a sin if I can't help falling in love with you?"
The way he softly but swiftly strums the strings, the way he quickly changes chords with just a single movement, the way he closes his eyes when he sings. Everything about it is simply beautiful.
"Like a river flows surely to the sea," Tyler opens his eyes and looks directly into yours. "Darling so we go, some things were meant to be."
"Take my hand," Tyler sings, slower this time. His eyes are locked on yours. "Take my whole life too." He bites his lip and swallows before continuing. "Cause I can't help..."
You want so desperately to sing the last line with him, but of course, you can't say a single word.
"Falling in love..."
A small, sad smile forms across your face.
"With you," Tyler finishes, strumming a final down stroke.
You now notice that tears silently roll down your cheek. You were crying the entire time he was singing.
You break out into an enthusiastic applause. You try to smile away your tears.
Tyler smiles back.
You grab your notebook that's sitting next to you and start writing.
Tyler holds his ukulele close and leans over to watch you.
"I," Tyler reads the words as you write them down on the paper. "Wish...I-I wish...I...could..." Tyler shakes his head, clearly not understanding what you're writing. "I wish I could...sing..." His voice trails off as you write the last word and show him the page.
You wrote, I wish I could sing along.
Tyler sets his ukulele in the grass and pulls you into a tight hug.
"I-I don't care," he says. He sounds determined.
You pull away from the hug and wipe away your tears.
"I don't care if you can't sing along," Tyler continues. "I love you. People don't understand, why a singer would love someone who can't sing, can't even talk. But I don't care. I don't care that you can't talk. I love you."
You can't help but smile.
"I love you too," you want to say, but no words come out of your mouth.
"Do you love me too?" Tyler asks. He looks down and fidgets with the strings of his ukulele. "I-It's okay if you don't, I just-"
You lean forward and cut him off with a kiss. When you pull away, you see Tyler is blushing, and his eyes are wide in surprise.
I love you, you sign. I love you.
