Chase's POV
My worst nightmare has come true...

Nyx won't talk again. Not to anyone. Not even her brother.

She's mute again...

I was only 17 years old and just like that, I had took her and her brother in. She wouldn't tell me how she felt, what she was thinking or anything. She was a mute and broken little girl. I saw the fear in her eyes. I saw how protective she was over her baby brother. I notice how she wouldn't talk but if it was about her little brother, she would snap and talk for a little bit then go mute again.

When I finally brought her and Kalinth into my life, I started breaking down her walls that she build up. I gained her trust and love. Kalinth was too young to remember what happened. I had also gained Kalinth's trust and love. Deep down I knew I could change their lives. It took 3 years to finally get rid of her walls...the walls that showed her fear, helplessness, broken, mute, unloved, blamed and so many more. I had become their older brother...their protecter...their second chance...their reason to live...

" ...Chase... " I heard Kalinth call my name. I looked up and saw the worried look on his face. I got up and kneeled in front of him so I was his height. " What's wrong buddy? " I asked Kalinth. All Kalinth did was point to the bathroom door and said " Nyx broke ". I got up and ran to the door...it was locked. Damnit! I started banging on the door and calling for Nyx to open the door. That's when I heard something...she was crying...

" Kalinth hand me a paperclip " I said. Kalinth handed me the paperclip. I started picking the lock. After 3 minutes of picking the lock, the door unlocked. I pushed the door opened and saw Nyx was in the corner hugging her knees. I sighed. I walked towards Nyx and picked her up. What she did, I didn't expect. She screamed and started kicking. I tighten my grip around her. I sat on my bed with Nyx still in my arms. She continued crying. I gave her a moment to calm down.

Once she stopped crying. I let go and she crawled off my lap and sat in front of me. She looked up and there it was again...

Her walls were back up...

" Nyx, baby...talk to me. What's hurting you?? I need to know. I hate seeing you like this " I said

Nyx took a deep breath...
