{Mute} Chapt. 3
Third Person's POV
The next day, Kakashi took Alice to the academy. As usual, Alice stayed mute. They entered the classroom as Iruka was telling everyone to quiet down. "Iruka," Kakashi spoke. Iruka turned to him and smiled before moving his gaze to the little girl Kakashi was with.
"Who's this you have with you, Kakashi?" Iruka asked as he looked at the girl. Alice stared at Iruka, not saying a word. "This is Alice. I adopted her yesterday," Kakashi explained. Iruka looked at Alice, expecting her to say hi. But she said nothing.
"As you can see, she's not really talkative, so I doubt she'll cause you any trouble in your class. In fact, she hasn't said a word since the ANBU found her." Kakashi said. Iruka has heard about a child being found in the woods, but it never occurred to him that the child would be a girl.
"Seriously? Not a word?" Iruka asked. Kakashi shook his head. Iruka looked back at Alice, who remained quiet. "It's nice to meet you, Alice. My name is Iruka Umino and I'll be your homeroom teacher." Iruka explained. Alice didn't respond as she just stared at him.
"Like I said, you won't get anything out her." Kakashi said. Iruka nodded, understanding. "Now, Alice," Kakashi said as he kneeled down to her height. "I want you to listen and do whatever Iruka says, okay?" He explained. Alice stared at him before slowly nodding her head.
Kakashi sighed, disappointed that she hasn't talked to him yet. "I'll see you after school." He said before standing up. He left the room as Alice watched him go. "This way, Alice." Iruka said, leading her to the front of the classroom.
"All right, class. Quiet down. We have a new student who will be attending our class." Iruka announced. The students stopped what they were doing and looked at Iruka. "This is Alice Hatake. Alice, why don't you introduce yourself?" Iruka suggested.
Alice looked at him before looking at her classmates. She remained silent, not saying a word as she stared at them. "Uh.. right. Anyway, you guys are free to ask her any questions while she's still up here." Iruka told the class.
"Hey, Alice! Do you like anyone here?" Sakura Haruno asked her. Alice looked at Sakura, as if trying to understand what the question meant. "Hello? Earth to girl? Can you hear?" Sakura said. Alice continued to stare at her.
"Iruka-sensei, is Alice okay?" Ino Yamanaka asked. "To be honest, Ino, I don't know. Alice isn't very talkative, so I doubt she'll be able to answer anyone's questions." Iruka explained, now remembering Kakashi's words. 'Why did I tell them to ask her any questions when Alice wasn't going to answer them?' Iruka thought to himself before he face palmed.
"Alice, have a seat next to Kiba. Kiba, would stand up so Alice knows who you are?" Iruka said. A boy who wore a gray hoodie stood up as his white puppy barked. Alice walked over to her seat then sat down next t him. "Nice to meet you. I'm Kiba." Kiba greeted with a grin.
Alice looked at him, staring at him with her red eyes. "What's wrong with you? Why woun't you say anything?" Kiba asked her. Alice didn't answer as she continued to stare at him. After a few more seconds of staring at him, she slowly turned her head back to Iruka-sensei.
Iruka continued to the lesson until it was time for lunch. All of the students left to go eat, but Alice stayed in her seat. "Alice, you don't have to stay here for lunch. You can go out and get to know more of the students." Iruka explained to her.
Alice looked at him for a moment before getting out of her seat and going outside. She blocked the sun with one hand before looking at the students who were eating their lunches. Alice walked around, bored out of her mind. "Hey, Alice!"
Alice turned around, seeing Kiba run over to her. Alice took a step back as he stopped in front of her. "Hey, I was thinking, since you're new and all, you wanna have lunch with me?" Kiba asked. Alice stared at him, but didn't answer his question.
"You shouldn't waste your time with her, Kiba." A boy from the class said. Alice looked at him then turned to walk away. "Hey, wait!" Kiba quickly grabbed her arm before she could go anywhere. "Hey, I don't think you're a waste of time. You're probably just shy, am I right?" Kiba said.
Alice stared at him, not saying a word. She yanked her arm out of his hold then went over to a bench, watching the kids eat their lunch. A gust of wind brushed past her, as if someone really fast just past her. Alice looked to her side, seeing a boxed lunch by her side.
Alice stared at it before looking back at her classmates. Minutes past and Alice still hasn't touched the boxed lunch. When it was time to go back to class, she got up from the bench and headed back inside the classroom, leaving the boxed lunch behind.
Iruka resumed class as Alice paid close attention. Class ended after that and the students left the classroom. Once all of them were gone, Alice stood from her seat and walked towards the door until Iruka stopped her. "So, how did your first day go, Alice? Was it okay?" He asked her.
Alice didn't answer. All she did was stare at him, not saying a word. "Um, did anyone pick on you?" Iruka asked as he smiled awkwardly. The fact that Alice hadn't said a word was starting to creep him out. He was beginning to wonder if she could understand him.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Alice. Enjoy the rest of your day." Iruka said. Alice turned around and walked away. As she was walking towards the exit, she accidentally bumped into Sakura Haruno. "What's your problem?" Sakura asked as she frowned at her.
Alice stared into Sakura's green eyes as she remained silent. "It's called saying excuse me. Don't you know how to say it?" Sakura said. Alice continued to stare, staying absolutely silent. "Ugh, weirdo." Sakura mumbled before heading off.
Alice watched her go before continuing to head towards the exit. Once she was out of the school, she looked around, trying to think of something to do. "Alice,"
She looked forward, seeing Kakashi waiting for her by a tree. She walked over to him. "How did your first day go?" Kakashi asked. Alice didn't respond. "Right. Never mind," Kakashi scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
Alice stared at him as she raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Let's go home." Kakashi said as he took her hand. He lead her back to his house, walking in silence. They got home and Alice went over to the couch, sitting down on it.
'This girl is so quiet. But is she really an Uchiha?' Kakashi thought as he stared at the mute girl. Kakashi snapped out of his thoughts when Alice stood up from the couch. She walked into the hallway while Kakashi followed her.
Alice walked into Kakashi's room and stared at it. "Alice?" Kakashi asked as she stared at the mattress. Alice didn't turn around to face him. She walked over to the bed, climbed in it, then snuggled in the covers.
Kakashi raised a brow. "Alice?" he repeated. Kakashi didn't have to call out to her again. Alice was fast asleep on the jonin's bed. "What a strange girl." Kakashi mumbled. It wasn't strange that Alice was fast asleep on his bed.
What he found strange was that Alice went to bed without dinner. Kakashi stared at the small, seven year old girl as she slept peacefully. He smiled before grabbing a blanket from the closet and heading to the couch. "Looks like Alice will be having my bed tonight." Kakashi chuckled.
He read his book until he fell asleep on the couch.
