School

I was on cloud nine as I drove into the parking lot of Clement High School. I had thought about the fact that the Camaro would only draw attention to myself, but for a car as nice as this, I could survive. As I drove past other cars in the lot, I realized that there were many other nice cars in the lot as well. Chargers, Challengers, the occasional Ferrari. That fact made me feel a little bit better. I parked in a spot at the end of the lot and shut off my engine. I saw Sophie and the group standing by a picnic table fifty feet from me, so I grabbed my bags and headed toward the table.

"Terri! Hey, how are you?!" Sophie yelled at me. People were already staring at me and Sophie's yelling wasn't helping at all. I ducked my head and hurried to close the distance between us.

"I'm good", I said as I reached the table, "hey Sophie, do you think you could not yell at me in public. I'm trying to avoid attention", I tried to be nice, because I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

"Oh, Sorry! My mouth just kind of...does what it wants" she blushed a little and smiled sweetly.

"It's ok" I told her reassuringly.

"You don't want to attract attention?" Jason asked

"Umm, yeah, I haven't ever really been around other teenagers and I really don't like being around a lot of people" I told him.

"Well that's not really going to go well for you" he told me.

"What? Why?" I asked.

"Because you're gorgeous" Brett gruffly answered, never looking up from the blade of grass he was holding.

No one said a word, including myself, as we were all confused and I was definitely awe struck. We continued to stare at him, and he slowly looked up from under his eyelashes.

"I'm just saying" he shrugged.

Jason slowly turned back to me, "well, albeit a weird way of telling you that, he's right. We, as werewolves, are very attractive compared to most humans, and you are very pretty on top of that, so you're going to get attention" he explained. When Jason said it, it didn't make me uncomfortable or nervous because he said it like an older brother would to a sister. I appreciated him for that. And as I glanced around, I realized he was right. People...guys... were staring at me. I was not comfortable with that. At all.

"Maybe I'll just go back home" I said, but Sophie grabbed my arm tightly and tugged me back.

"No you won't. You'll be fine. Besides, it wouldn't hurt for you to have a boyfriend before you find your true mate" she said.

I didn't even know if I was going to have a mate. I really doubted it, but my mom always taught me to have an open mind when it came to science and new discoveries.

"Yeah, I guess you're right Sophie" I murmured.

"C'mon, lets go get your class schedule" she told me.

Sophie dragged me toward the large entrance of the High School. I saw many somewhat attractive guys, but it didn't matter because I would have no idea what to say to them. As we reached the door to the building, a boy...or man-bear... looked up from his book and stood to open the door. He was...insanely huge. Most male werewolves were 6'0-6'2 tall, which is taller than the average human. And Alpha's are usually 6'4-6'6, because they're supposed to be dominant. This guy, he was...6'8 at least. He made me feel short, and that was a true feat. As we went through the door, Sophie stopped and stared at the boy, giving him...a cold stare. She slowly nodded to him and then proceeded to walk through the door. I couldn't believe she didn't say thank you.

"Thank yo-" I didn't finish my statement before Sophie dragged me away abruptly. I turned and stared at the guy holding the door as Sophie pulled me away. He had a nice, attractive face. His face was clustered with a bunch of freckles and he had pretty hazel eyes. He was extremely muscular and tall but he looked about as mean as a teddy bear.

"Sophie, why did you ignore him and drag me away?" I asked her angrily

"Terri... look... we don't talk to Nate Searing" she said in a clipped tone.

"What, why?" I couldn't understand this.

"Because he never turned at the age of thirteen. He should have changed into a werewolf and he didn't. There is something wrong with him. He's not normal. That's sign enough to us not to talk to him" she answered after a slight, exasperated sigh.

I couldn't breathe. They didn't speak to him because he was a werewolf that couldn't shift. Because he had a mutation. Because he was Just. Like. Me.
