Fun
The next hour involved the six of us heading out to a secluded meadow behind the pack house. We had all changed into our athletic workout clothes and made our way out to the grassy area so I could effectively show the group what I could do. I expected a more serious situation when I told them about my abilities, yet somehow the whole picture before me was jovial and excited. I sat down in the grass in the middle of the field and everyone looked at me in confusion.
"Hello? You're supposed to be showing us awesome stuff, not sitting in the grass. You're not a hippie" William told me with a smile.
I gave him an exasperated look and said, "It's more comfortable for me to sit, genius". The twins looked at each and shrugged, then flopped down simultaneously into the grass. Jason and Sophie gently sat down while Sienna sighed deeply and glared at us with indignation.
"It takes a lot of effort for me to sit down and get back up" she said as she lowered herself onto her stomach, placing her face into the grass. She made a miserable sound and effectively pulled off the pouting, dejected child look.
"Sienna, you're a werewolf, you should like nature" Sophie stated in confusion
"Yeah, when I have fur and four legs" Sienna said with sass. She picked her head up and placed it on her folded arms.
"You know, I haven't seen any of you in wolf form" I whispered distantly. They all looked around with shocked faces.
"Well...after you show us what you can do, we'll show you what we can do" Jason said with a chuckle.
"Umm ok, well, like I told you, I received telekinesis first, so I've had the most practice with that one. My powers are tied to my emotions, like a regular wolf, but my telekinesis is pretty much independent from my emotions now." I held my right hand, which had my cell phone in it, wide open and in front of everyone in the middle of the circle. "I don't really have to think anymore to make things move, they just...do". The phone began floating five inches above my hand. "Actually, I have to think more about not making things float, rather than making them float". I put my hand down and the phone stayed in free float between the six of us.
"Can I...can I touch it?" Brett asked, looking me in the eyes with his hand half raised.
"Yeah, of course" I nodded.
Brett poked the phone, which floated away from him with the force. It resembled something floating in zero gravity, peaceful and calm.
"That is very...awesome" Jason said with a smile. He hesitated then snapped his head toward me. "Make me float".
I stared at him in shock, "I'm sorry?!". The phone fell into the grass with a thud.
"Make me float like the phone...please" he asked with a smile.
"...Uhh, well, yeah I can. I never have made a person move but I've moved much heavier. Are you ready?" I asked, holding my hands palm up towards him.
"Wait, wait, wait" Jason jumped up backed away. He flung his arms around and cracked his neck back and forth. After one deep inhale and exhale, he squatted into a ready position and nodded, "Yeah".
I chuckled and thought not about how heavy he was as a person, but how light each particle of his being was. How easy it would be to move a tiny particle. The usual warmth spread through my body anytime I used my powers, and Jason slowly began lifting off the ground.
'Whoa" Jason laughed out loud, kicking his legs in waving his arms. He had a look of pure joy on his face, like a small child at a carnival. "This is so amazing!" He made a superman pose and winked at Sophie. "Now I'm a superhero babe".
"That is amazing!" Sophie said with joy and a few excited claps.
Both twins looked at me and said, "My turn!".
I looked away from Jason, but I could still hear him giggling behind me. I stared at the twins and they too, started floating. Thankfully, I still wasn't feeling the strain in my head whenever I reached my limit. Three boys in the air was nothing apparently. The twins were slapping each other and pushing each other around. I gently sat all three of them down on the ground with a collective "awww" from all three,
"Don't you want to see my next one?" I asked
Everyone nodded, even the usually negative Sienna. She had sat up from her pouting position to watch the action.
"This one I have worked on for a while too, but it's...different than my other powers. I feel like this power is tied more to my desperation, and less to my anger or sadness. I can... put it up easily, but maintaining it is more difficult. This is a shield, shields take beatings. Essentially, my brain is taking a beating" I whispered. I closed my eyes and thought about how desperately I needed to protect people around me. I felt warmth again and I opened my eyes.
"There you go!" I said with a smile.
Everyone grew confused looks upon their faces.
"There's what?" Sienna asked.
"Yeah, nothing is happening" Brett said.
"Really? Because William just stuck his tongue out at you" I said. Brett whipped to his right and William threw up his hands in surrender.
"I did n-" but before he could finish his denial, Brett was flying to attack his brother...and ran smack into a clear wall with a thud. A slight awkward silence was suddenly filled with loud, raucous laughter.
"Hahahaha, fantastic!" Sienna said, falling backwards into the grass.
"Oh man! That was amazing!" Jason yelled while Sophie stuck her bright red face into his shoulder.
"Owww, what was that?!" Brett yelled rubbing his bruised forehead.
"Thank you so much for that" William said with the largest smile imaginable on his face.
"It was nothing. And I'm sorry, you wanted to see my power. I know you have the shortest temper here, so I figured you would go for it" I said with an apologetic smile to Brett.
"Awww it's ok I guess. It is pretty cool" he growled loudly at everyone still laughing, "Shut up!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Ok here goes the last ability" I said as I rose to my feet and dusted off my butt. I walked backward away from everyone, and put my hands up when they began to stand up to follow me. "No, stay back. I have...almost no control of this ability. This is what makes me most like you. If I don't control my temper, bad things will happen". I closed my eyes and turned my back to the group. I didn't want to be facing them if I lost control. I put my hands together on the left side of my body and rubbed them twice. I thought about how my mother and my father were stolen from me and how I was alone, a freak in a world of normalcy. I could feel the heat explode in my stomach and I forced the feeling to travel to my hands. When I felt like my hands were going to explode, I flung my right arm upward and over my head, creating a jettison of flame that shot into the sky. As the power dwindled, the flame arced, in a somewhat dangerous rainbow of fire. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my anger. My hands where shaking and they were still on fire. I thought about my grandparents, and my new friends, and Nate. But nothing was helping. Inside, I started panicking. What if I couldn't turn it off? I doubled over slightly and tried to imagine one thing that would help me relax. Anything. And then... a feeling came to mind. I reached out for this sensation, this feeling I had had since arrival, but never in large quantities. It seemed like the key to my peace lied within this pack, but I hadn't found it yet. Only pieces. I took those pieces and tried to let the peaceful feeling settle over my stomach. I felt the fire leave my hand and I slowly stood, regaining control. I opened my eyes and turned around. At some point I had shut out my hearing, because as I turned I began to hear concerned voices asking me if I was alright.
"I'm fine!" I said with a smile. They all stared at me with concern, but slowly, Sienna started clapping. Everyone joined in and clapped for a few seconds before Sienna said,
"That..." Sienna said, indicating the applause " was for creating a fireworks display. And also finding a way to control your anger" and everyone nodded in agreement. I smiled at them gratefully.
"Thank you..." I sighed and then threw up my hands with a smile, "Alright, you promised me I could see some wolves".
Jason stood up and wiped his hand on his jeans, "you're right, we did" he said as his blue eyes glowed an eerie bright blue.
