Comfortable
My grandfather rapped on the massive front door of the Victorian Mansion. I glanced around the wrap around porch of the home, looking at the ornate entrance. The grass was very green, and even in the dimly lit evening sky, I could see that they took very good care of the grounds around the entrance. The door was abruptly answered by a dainty blonde girl wearing a bright peach shirt and teal shorts. She was probably around my age but about half the size of me.
"Mr. and Mrs. Jackson! Hi! How are you? Are you looking for Beta Andrew? He's inside, come inside!" she spoke animatedly. I could almost see the sunshine and rainbows dancing around her, she was so bubbly. I haven't been around girls like this often, so I thought it would annoy me but... I found her innocent, adorable nature refreshing.
"Hello Sophie, yes we are here to see the Beta. We brought our granddaughter, Terri" my grandmother answered warmly. I saw Sophie's eyes widen and her smile grow as she stood on her tip toes to see me.
"Really?" she half yelled. My grandfather moved aside so she could see me. "Oh! Hi, I'm Sophie, we'll be going to Clement High School together... oh and sometimes I talk too much" she held her hand out to me and when I gave her my hand she shook it animatedly.
"Hi, I'm Terri" I said hesitantly, laughing at her excited nature.
"Come in, Come in, Beta Andrew is in the kitchen cooking with Beta Allison" Sophie led the way through the massive foyer, past the grand staircase, and into a huge Kitchen. My grandmother leaned over to me and whispered.
"The Beta has found his mate, Allison, so they are the mated Beta couple. Just call them Beta Andrew and Beta Allison" I nodded, without answering. Because I was home schooled, I had all the normal classes, but my mother also made me learn the in and outs of the werewolf society so I could fit in. I understood the mating rules and how the hierarchy worked. As soon as she learned that I smelt like a werewolf despite my lack of shifting ability, she started teaching me how to fit in so people wouldn't become weary of me.
We rounded the corner and I saw the most attractive man in my life shaking a huge pan of sizzling vegetables over an open flame, laughing at something funny that had just been said. Sitting on a bar stool at the island was a beautiful blonde woman chopping more vegetables and meat at a cutting board. She was obviously the one that had said something funny, as she was giving him a look of indignation. As soon as they noticed us, they stopped laughing. Beta Andrew set the pan down and turned off the fire, grabbing a towel and wiping his hands.
"Mr. and Mrs. Jackson" he smiled. His voice was like silk, and he had piercing blue eyes and a little bit of scruff on his face. "Is your granddaughter officially here?"
"Yes sir, we arrived with Terri a few minutes ago" my grandfather slowly moved out of the way and motioned me forward. I stepped forward and the Beta held his hand out in front of me.
"Hello Terri, I'm Beta Andrew, you can call me Beta, Andrew, Andy, anything you'd like honestly" he said with a smile as I took his hand. He was very nice and something about him made me feel welcome and comfortable.
"Hi, I'm Terri. Thank you for letting me live here"
"No problem, your mother was still part of this pack and she was always welcome, as are you. But in all honesty it wasn't my decision to let you come, just my consensus. Alpha Alex was the one with the final say." Beta Andrew finished his sentence. There was a slight awkward pause until a feminine voice made a noise from behind Beta Andrew.
"Ahem" Beta Andrew turned and looked at his mate, who was staring at him like she wanted to punch him.
"Yes, sorry, this is my mate Allison" he gestured to the beautiful blond woman who was now standing to his right.
"Call me Ally" she said with a warm smile and held her hand out to me. I took it and, again, got that feeling of ease and peace. "Welcome to the pack".
Thank you so much for reading! Sophie on the side!
