I took a deep breath as I attempted to calm my heart. It was already beating a mile a minute, and the breathless way Alpha Alex had said "mine" made my heart thud a resonating beat. His story made me so sad, partly because his suffering was so great and partly because I was beginning to feel his emotions through our bond. We had been in tight confines with each other for too long. I gently tried to pull out of his arms, which were now clasped around me in a grip of death. I could tell he realized I was attempting to separate, but he did not want to. He reluctantly let me pull away as I gently put my hands on his tone side to push away.

"I'm sorry that your life has been so difficult and hard", I started saying quietly, trying not to cry again, "and I'm glad that your...views... of me have changed, but I don't know you yet." The heartbroken expression that donned his face almost shattered my determination, but I continued on with my explanation quickly. "I'm not...rejecting you... it's just... the only 'you' I know has been cruel to me. Give me time. Let me get to know you... before we make any rash decisions".

"We're mates... there is nothing to figure out! You and I will be together forever. That's how mates work" he rebounded gruffly.

"That's a pretty barbaric way to try for my feelings. Just because I'm your 'mate' doesn't mean I have to jump in your arms right away!"

"Stop fighting the bond child."

"Are you kidding me?! I opened myself up to you... I don't do that for anyone. I opened myself up to you and now you're supposed to accept me!"

"I appreciate you telling me how you feel and about your past.
Now I'm telling you that I want time to get to know you. This isn't 'instant love' mix. You don't get to decide when I love you and when I don't. You have to earn it!" I yelled, then turned and stormed out of his office.

Alpha Alexandre Brutus's Point of View


"I appreciate you telling me how you feel and about your past. Now I'm telling you that I want time to get to know you. This isn't 'instant love' mix. You don't get to decide when I love you and when I don't. You have to earn it!" She yelled in my face, spinning around and sprinting out the door, slamming it with a resounding bang.

"Get back in here! I don't..." I trailed off as I realized she couldn't hear me any longer due to the closed door. "I don't know how to earn it" I said in exasperation and threw myself in my chair.

"That went well...idiot" my wolf chimed in.

"Me?! What did I do?! She was being completely unreasonable!" I yelled in rage.

"I can see where she is coming from. I don't necessarily agree with her, but I will take what I can get" my wolf replied with an almost... cheery disposition.

"Why are you so damn happy?!" I growled.

"She said she was giving us a chance. A chance is better than no chance at all. As long as a certain blockhead" he mentally coughed "doesn't screw up, everything will be great".
