"I thought he wasn't supposed to be back until tomorrow" Nate said as he stood up and then helped me up as well.

"I guess he surprised us" I whispered.

I dusted the stand off my body and looked at Nate, who didn't seem bothered at all. Then I saw Sophie, Sienna, and the twins heading toward Jason and Alpha Alex. Dread hit my stomach as I realized that Sophie was about to be Sophie and I did not want to go over there.

"Terri! Nate! Come here!" Sophie turned, just as I predicted, and started waving and yelling at us. Luckily, the party had already begun to recover and it was not that obvious with the music back on. It seemed as though everyone else in the group was talking to Alpha Alex, but when Sophie started yelling, he slowly looked into our direction. His face made me want to scream and run. Nate smiled and waved at Sophie then started to walk toward them. I quickly reached out and grabbed Nate's wrist.

"I don't want to go over there" I whispered to him. Alpha Alex was still staring at me with haunting eyes. The phrase, "If looks could kill" came to mind.

"What? Why not? If I am ok with going over there, so should you be. Everybody likes you" Nate said with a smile. I watched Nate's back walk away from me and I tried not to look at the group because I knew what was waiting.

"I'm not so sure about that" I said under my breath, then followed Nate reluctantly.

We came up on the group in the middle of Jason saying, "-great that your meetings went well bro". The Alpha nodded and then stared hard at Nate. Probably because he new I was cowering like a chicken behind Nate's large frame.

"Hey, yeah, you haven't been gone so long that you forgot Nate right? It's only been two weeks. Although a lot of things have changed concerning Nate since you left" Jason said with a laugh.

"No, I have not forgotten him", Alpha Alex said slowly, his voice was deep and smooth," and I can see that it has".

"And, since you've been gone, the Jackson's granddaughter has joined us as well" Sophie said calmly, which was almost unheard of, and she gently reached for my person from behind Nate. I hesitated, but it didn't matter because Nate moved to his left anyways. I was exposed to the caprice of the angry Alpha, and I did not know what to do.

"So you're the complicated granddaughter? Are you going to be the new Pack's easy lay too? Because you're well on your way to that already" he said with a cold tone and an icy glare.

"Excuse me?!" I asked astounded.

"Just remember that I went out on a limb to let you come here and I only did that because I was told you wouldn't be trouble. Don't make me regret that" he told me with an angry snarl on his face. He folded his arms across his chest and widened his stance. He was trying to intimidate me.

"You are a flaming asshole" I said with shock on my face, "I cant believe you're talking to me like this. I may be complicated, but I am not trouble. And I am not a whore either. But even if I was, who or how many guys I talk to is none of your business" I said as I got in his face.

"I am your-" He started, getting in my face.

"Don't you dare say you're my Alpha, because a true Alpha would not say what you just did to me, especially on our first meeting. Get off your high horse!" I yelled at him.

His eyes flashed bright green and he growled loudly at me, fangs extended, in my face, so I did what I should have done when he said those blasphemous things to me in the first place. I slapped him in the face.

"Whoa!" Jason yelled and grabbed Alpha Alex as he roared and made to jump at me.

"What the-" Nate grabbed me by the waist and hauled me away, "are you crazy?!"

"Take her to the car!" Jason said, trying to hold Alex down with the twins. Nate dragged me into the forest to the suburban. I could feel my body catching fire.

"Nate, put me down. Put me down now!" I screamed, he sat me down against the Suburban. "Get back, get back".

"What's wrong, are you ok?!" As he asked, I doubled over and my hands caught on fire.

"Ahhhh" I screamed in pain and went to my knees, "Don't touch me" Nate I breathlessly told him, "just let me calm down" I said, feeling my blood pressure drop as I imagined how I had felt that day in the meadow. I searched for the calming presence I had felt through the pack. I noticed it was also the feeling I had felt earlier on the beach. The fire was receding back into my hands and I could start breathing again. I sat back on my butt and leaned against the Suburban. I let my hands fall into my lap and my head fall backwards against the tire. Nate realized I was calming and he slowly made his way next to me and sat down.

"Are you ok?" he asked.

"My anger triggered my fire and I can't control it yet" I said dejectedly.

"It's ok, if anyone in the world knows control problems, it is the werewolves of this town" he said with a chuckle.

"I know, but I should have known better than to let him get a rise out me" I whispered. Something about him being condescending toward me made my anger spike so fast, I was blinded by it.

"Are you kidding me?! He called you...promiscuous... if you hadn't been in the way of his face, then I would have hit him for you. I can't believe he said that. He doesn't even know you.... You just slapped the Alpha, that is so awesome!" he laughed and I felt like crying but his speech made me want to laugh too. "Why doesn't he like you?"

"I don't freaking know" I said with anger.

"Well", Nate sighed, " I guess life is going to get very interesting from now on".
