What Once Was
She looked down at the pocket watch. Elizaveta was determined to find out what the symbol meant. What did a dragon leaping through its own tail have to do with anything? Sure Vladimir called her 'dragâ', but she didn't think that had anything in common.
"Helloooo? Lizzy~? You there dragâ?" Vladimir smirked as he waved a hand in front of her face.
She shook the thoughts out of her head and nodded. "Yeah... Sorry Vlad." Hungary looked up from the watch. "Where to now?"
His smile widened and his 'fangs' showed. "I'm glad you asked but..." Vladimir paused and looked down at the watch that was now fastened securely to her wrist. She did a double take.
"H-how did that happen?!" She exclaimed and tried desperately to undo the knot that wasn't there. "Wha...?"
The chain continued in an ongoing loop around her wrist. It was like the chain mended itself together. The Romanian laughed. "Silly Lizzy. Haha that rhymed~! Anyway... Didn't you hear? The watch is now bonded to you until the day you die which means you better be careful. Only you can use it."
"But I'm a country. I can only die when my citizens do and I am disbanded." She raised a brow which caused him to laugh harder. She rolled her green eyes.
"Here you are nothing more than a normal human. A mortal."
Her eyes widened. "H-how can that be? We need to get out of here! My people need me!"
"It's not just your people that need you Elizaveta. The fate of the whole world lies on the safety of you and that watch. You don't understand how grave this situation is." This time when he spoke, all the humor and immaturity was stripped from his voice. The country of Romania was dead serious.
She gulped. The whole world?
"How does this weird thing work?" She gritted her teeth and stared intensely at the watch.
"You have to command it." He smirked and watched her with an amused look on his pale face.
"Okay... Um.." She murmured to herself. "Work! Send me back in time! Go!" Elizaveta waved her arms in the air.
Vladimir chuckled deeply. "No dragâ. It's psychic. You need to connect your mind with the aura of the watch."
She deadpanned. "What kind of cliché fantasy anime is this?" Liz snorted. "Connect my mind? How the hell do I do that?!"
Romania only laughed louder. "Just think of where you want to go but don't forget to--" He was interrupted as a bright light blinded his vision. He covered his crimson eyes and looked away. As soon as the light subsided he deadpanned and finished his sentence. "--- grab my hand and bring me along.."
The personification sighed and kicked a rock. "Well fute*..."
...
"Ah shit!" Elizaveta cursed as she hit the ground. "How was that Vladimir?" She looked around and her blood ran cold. "Vladimir? This really isn't funny Vlad!" She realized that she was alone. "Oh fazs*."
"No, no, no, no! Why didn't I wait for more instructions! Stupid watch! I want to go back to Romania!" She paused. "Wow I never thought I would say that."
Liz stopped scolding the inanimate watch and looked around. She raised a brow. "Where the heck am I anyway?"
All around her were green hills that seemed to span outward for miles on end. The trees were a very familiar color of greenish orange and the sky was tinted light blue with a few clouds in the sky. The air itself was what was alarming to her. Her surroundings were growing more and more familiar the more she submerged herself in her surroundings.
"I've definitely been here before..." She murmured and bit her lip in thought. Where did I think of going when the watch activated...? The harder she thought, the more she was beginning to draw a blank. Wait! I think I remember I was thinking about someone! But who did I---?
"Ms. Hungary? Are you~a okay?" Elizaveta looked down and locked her emerald eyes on to small, closed ones. "You~a seem troubled~a."
She froze. "Feli?" She hadn't seen him in a very long time, yet alone when he was still a young country.
"Si! Ciao~! But I~a thought you were~a inside cooking for Mr. Austria?" He asked, tiny head tilted to the side in confusion, smile still on his face like always.
She felt tears well up in her eyes. So this is who I was thinking of. I guess my subconscious missed when I used to basically be his mother... Before any more confusion could arise Liz let a few tears fall before she broke out into a large smile. "I decided to come outside and get some fresh air."
"Are you~a upset because Holy Rome~a left?" He asked, looking distraught and upset. "Because I~a am too." After a brief moment of silence, he broke out in a reassuring smile. "But don't~a worry Ms. Hungary! He said~a he would come~a back! And you~a always tell me to~a always be~a happy~! So I'm~a returning the~a favor~!"
It was at this moment in time that a wave of guilt washed over her. Hungary could never tell him. It would change things. So nonetheless all she did was nod and smile. "I know little one. I'm going back in the house, what did you come out here for?" She immediately changed the subject.
He laughed. "Silly Ms. Hungary! You sent me~a out here~a to retrieve~a some water from~a the fountain....Sorry I~a forgot!" Little Feliciano nodded and ran down the hill but not before yelling and waving, "I'll~a see you inside!"
Elizaveta smiled widely and wiped away any of her stray tears. Now she knew why she wanted to come here. She missed Italy and she missed cleaning and dressing him up in dresses but most of all, she missed what once was.
As she was in deep thought, the watch started to glow once more. "No! I didn't tell you to---!"
She was cut off as she was forcefully pulled into the fabric of space and time.
...
"No Feliciano! Get out of that pasta bowl!" You playfully scolded as you pulled the furry feline out of the rigatoni.
"I'm~a sorry Bella! It's just~a so good!" He apologized, licking the mean sauce off his little pink nose.
You could never stay mad at a cat coerced in pasta so you hugged him. "You're too cute."
"Aham!"
"It's ahem you bloody idiot! Speak English!" Arthur yelled at the American cat who sat (yes sat) on the counter with his paws folded.
"I'm not speaking English I'm speaking American!" He argued in his 'hero voice'. You giggled and picked them both up.
"You two need to stop fighting and realize that you love each other." You simply stated. They both looked at each other and blushed (yes the cats blushed. What can I say they're Hetalia Nekos!). "I didn't mean it that way sorry!"
"We arr know you did. I ship it too do not worry." Kiku walked in and jumped on the counter.
You set down Arthur and Alfred who just couldn't stop blushing.
"You're so cute!" You said and 'booped' them both on the nose before taking Feli and sitting on the couch.
Once again you fell asleep with 50 lbs of cat weighing down on you. But hey, you were never cold!
