Drew

I sped through the icy tundra, on our back way to our sprawling castle in the North.
It was a quiet trip.
By now, I would have cracked a joke or told Wynter a funny story about Nick, but I refrained. The look on Wynter's face clued me in. Usually, she looked worried or sad when Nick was late from meetings or work, but this time? She looked scared; fearful almost. I didn't know what to say to comfort her or calm her nerves so I thought it best to just remain quiet.

"Nick is a big boy. He can handle himself." It was the only words my brain could form. It was a sense of comfort. Maybe if I said it enough times, I would believe it myself?

I knew Nick was more than capable of taking care of himself but there was still a possibility of him being really hurt. Jack was a powerful entity. He did not care if he caused destruction and chaos. He would do anything to get what he wanted and he wanted Wynter.

I finally pull up to our castle in the North. "We're here." I said, trying to break the tense air of silence. I help Wynter out the passenger side. "Here" I take my long coat and drape it over her shivering body. Her barely there dress was exposing every inch of her skin to the cold.

"Drew! Wynter!" My mother's worried voice sounded from behind the shadows of the castle. She ran over to Wynter, hugging her body and warming her shoulders. "Come in Wynter! You're freezing!" She exclaimed. She was shocked how cold her body was. My mom didn't know Wynter was a human so her chilly temperature came as a suprise. Magical entities like us usually didn't get this cold. Our body easily adjust in frigid environments.

"Guards. Light the fireplace and start the coal bath!" My mother springs into action.

"I'm fine Mrs. Clause." Wynter tried to smile but her eyes were so defeated. She was trying so hard not to cry.

"Wynter don't ever run off like that! We were so worried about you!"

"We?" Wynter said, suprised by her choice of verbiage.

"Yes. We" My father's voice booms behind us. We all turn to face him.  Wynter glared at him with rage but averted her eyes when he was staring for too long.

"Where's Nick?" He sounded indifferent.

"He's...I mean" Wynter tried to explain but I took over.

"He's with Jack"

"What!" My mom exclaimed. "Drew! How could you leave your brother there!" I glared at my father as he stared at Wynter. There was rage in his eyes.

"His fiancé had nothing to say about this?" He asked her. Wynter looked to the ground. She looked absolutely defeated

"Leave her alone dad. It's not her fault."I fumed.

"Isn't it? I bet Nick is over there singing away his title as we speak. And for what? Her?" He raged.

"Nick was right. Fuck you!" I snapped, making sure to meet my father's eyes. He didn't look shocked by my outburst. Typical. "Nick finally discovered his autonomy but you're mad at him because he's no longer your lapdog. He used to only say yes to you but now that he woke the fuck up and learned to have a backbone, you're taking your rage out on his fiancé. If you have an issue with Nick and his choices, take it up with him. Wynter has nothing to do with this so leave her the fuck alone."

I turn to Wynter and hold her shoulders. "Come on Wyn. Let's go" I lead her back to her room. She felt a little warmer which was a good sign. I would hate for her to get sick under my care.

Nick better have a plan to make Wynter stay because the way it was looking, she wouldn't be his fiancé for much longer.

Wynter

What was I thinking? Me? A human pretending to be Santa Claus's fiancé? This sounded like some corny romantic novel written by some lonely author on Wattpad.

"Mrs Claus" I scoffed beneath a breath, cramming another shirt into my already stuffed suitcase. Nick's long hiatus was driving me over the edge so I thought packing my clothes would take my my mind off it.

I was used to people not liking me, but Mr. Claus's distaste for me felt premeditated. So what I was human? Why did his fiancé matter if Nick would be able to keep his title and the Claus line? (Remember. Nick hasn't told Wynter about needing to have a child with the Spirit (magic) of Christmas to continue the legacy!)

Another hour passed before I caught myself folding and unfolding the same black dress for the twentieth time. It had been 2 hours since Drew and I returned from the South Pole and Nick was still nowhere to be seen. Drew had been checking in on me every thirty minutes along with Mrs. Claus. It was nice of them both but what I really wanted was a visit from Nick.

That's it! It's been hours and still no sign of Nick. I I couldn't take the waiting. I threw my dress at my bed in frustration, and put on a thick jacket. Maybe waiting in Nick's room would make me feel a little more at ease and who knows, maybe he slipped in undetected and was resting?

It must have been 3am in the Pole. They didn't have a sense of time but the skies were pitch black. The soft shadow of the moon was speckled randomly against the porcelain tiled floor.

Every step I took towards Nick's room, I said a little prayer.
"Please be fine.
Please be alive"

My hand rested against the knob of his room. Why was I so nervous to turn it? Maybe I was scared of the unknown? Would he be on the other side of the door.

I slowly open the door and scan the room for any signs of life. Sadly, he was not there.
Whatever. He would come. He had to come and I would be here to greet him. I just needed to know he was okay.

——-

My eyes were fighting to stay open. I couldn't tell  what time it was. My circadian clock was signaling me to sleep and soon, I would be it's master. Just before I had a chance to close my eyes I hear rustling at the door.

I shot up and watched the knob of the door as it jingled open.
"Nick!" I gasped, shooting up as I saw his figure at the door. Although it was dark, I could make out his features. He looked horrible! His body was bruised and his lip bloody.

I ran over to the door to help in. He collapsed in my arms, weak from what I assumed to be a fight with Jack. We walk over to the bed. I tried my hardest to support his weight as he towered over me.

"Oh my gosh.
Oh my gosh!" I whispered frantically, scanning his body while taking note of all its defects. He pressed his head against his pillow, wincing as I pressed my palm against his chest.

"Wynter." He said
"Nick! What happened! Oh my gosh! My gosh!"

"Wynter" he said a little louder this time. I didn't care that he kept calling my name. I was to frantic seeing his bloody nose.

"WYN!" He holds my arms, trying to make me relax. "I'm fine" he smiled lazily.

I try not to cry seeing how bruised and battered he was. "What happened?" I try to say it as calm as possible.

He ran a palm through my messy curls, pulling me pulling my lips. We locked lips and kissed. I hated the way he pacified me. His passionate kiss warmed my soul, lulling me into a stupor of pure ecstasy.

"Nick" I gasp trying to pull away from his addictive touch. "I need to call the healers! You're hurt."

"No Wynter." He held my wrist, preventing my departure. "You need to hear this."

"This can wait! You're bleeding!"

"Wynter, please" he pulls my jaw forcing my eyes towards his.

We watch each other carefully as I wait for his words. Just as he was about to speak, he winces.

I ran to the bathroom and find a towel to wipe his blood. I could least clean his wounds. He smirked, watching my hands over his stomach. He locked his palm and clasped it over mine.

Suddenly, I felt a calming warmth engulf me until my hand glowed.

He was healing his wounds! Through me?

"I transferred some magic to you. It last but only for a little while. Just hover it over the bruises." I nodded, working in silence. He would grab my hand every other minute and transfer more. It was like pixie dust. It lasted but only for a little while. After a few minutes he started coming too.

"Are you okay?" He asked me, staring into my eyes.

I nodded looking away. I loved that he didn't scold me for running away. What I did was stupid. I could have died...especially being human. I was not as invincible as I believed to be.

"I should have killed him." Nick confessed, looking into my eyes. "But I thought of you. Even as evil as he was, I kept thinking about you. I knew you would never ask me to do that." He confessed. "I'm not that type of person, nor is it who I want to be. I don't take pleasure in killing people"

He sat up and we stared at each other, our bond was so strong in the silence. He pulled me into his arms, pushing my hair behind my ear. He hovered a finger over the scratch I didn't even know I had before he healed it.
His touch was electric.
His magic...warming.

"I don't know what I would have done if he—" Nick ended his words, pulling me in his arms and kissing my ear.

"Nick please" I whisper, gasping as he brought his lips to my neck.
I don't know if I could hold on for much longer.

We both knew what we wanted to do. Maybe it was the after effects of Jack's spell or the way his body looked in the moonlight, but my temperance was dwindling.

He dragged his lips down my neck, tugging and biting at every inch.

"I didn't know if you were even alive or dead." I gasp as he pressed his lips against the fattiest part of my bosoms. "I should be mad at you Nick." I whisper, holding his head as he continued.

"Take your anger out on me" he roared, pressing his lips onto mine. He sounded animalistic.
His kisses felt like promises, his warmth, like shelter.
His grasp was his oath to guide me as I drifted into insanity.

He held me like a man who would never let me go.
